Fantastic.

(I chopped up the Strontium Dog colour spread in that issue as I sent a letter or drawing to Star Lord and the bloody strip popularity voting coupon was on the other side of the page.)

Must dig up my Star Lords.

It's on 4oD where I just watched it. It's on for one more week. Probably only works in the UK.

I enjoyed it. Didn't think I would as I really didn't like Iron Man or the Avengers. Haven't bothered with any other Marvel films as just not my kind of thing.

Thought it got way too schmaltzy at the end though.

Some historians point to the fact Japan was days away from full surrender anyway, and that the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was made not as a decision to end the war, but one to 'justifiably' test out the lovely new toys the US had, before the war ended.
There is also the theory (which some don't subscribe to) that the US was trying to finish off the war in the Pacific to prevent the Soviets joining in and getting a foothold in that part of the world – and also to impress upon the Soviets the might of the US.

Anyway, regarding Dredd. Though he's a stoney-faced totally straight down the line emotionally challenged (or suppressed) humourless git – he still comes across at times as hilarious with his terse, sarcastic, dry one-liners. A man of not many words, but when he delivers them they are laser sharp. I always wait with baited breath to hear Dredd's last word on matters. Just as with some people in real life I am left wondering – does he mean to be funny?

Not that anyone with much brains would dare to join in on the joke with him.

I've just noticed that the fake lego man doesn't have holes in his feet so can only attach to blocks in a sitting down position.
I can't read that writing either. Something about 'fashion styles, fully wonderful?'
Just noticed the BRICK logo.

"More New Fashion Style!
Every Styles Fully
Wonderful!"

The dodgy shadow on the Specialman logo surely proves that this is a fake.

I hated the color job they had up to this point. Too muddy and dull.
I also found the colouring up to this point too muddy. I think it overpowered the line work.

Don't see a problem with the change as with Dredd there is always a radical change in art styles anyway.

I think it's fair enough for the newer colourist to make his own interpretation of what he feels works – within reason of course. When published in 2000AD the covers and spreads weren't coloured by the artist anyway.

NB Always wondered if colourists are unhappy at not being referred to as 'artists'. Indeed they are.

Still reading Beyond Zero. A tad over the top but great fun. Preferred Night Zero which I thought was surprisingly excellent this time round. When first published I took it at face value.

I took the "classics" comments to refer to pulp movies, books etc. What we consider pulp and low brow now is now considered "the classics" in the world of Zero City. Tanner is almost making one such comment to the reader which I took as an acknowledgement that the strip is not actually taking itself too seriously. If that makes sense.

I hope I am not taking the strip too seriously in a convoluted way.

My early newsprint progs are bagged up but I think they faded and started to crumble before I bagged them up sometime in the 80s.

Don't see the point in bagging up any later ones. Let's be honest, they aren't worth much. (Might request to have few boxed in with me for the final long walk to the great comic book shop up in the sky.)

Seriously though, I look forward to having them all properly organised so I can refer to them. They've been almost inaccessible for years.

I haven't seen spinning racks like that since I was in Orbital comics yesterday looking at the small press comics.

ROM in that bw 70s photo and then Human Fly in your photo. You call that wholesome?

Just joking Krakajac. Good stuff.
