General / Re: Origins - when does it start?....

Judge Raider was in '79. (progs 810-14)

I expect Origins will either start in prog 1500 or prog 2007, since such a major story is bound to start on one of those promotional-type progs. (I really don't want to wait until december though.)

I'd like them to kill off every single psi-judge all in one strike -- some big psychic threat like the Sisters of Death or something -- and then when its all over, some follow-up stories about how Justice Dept. tries to cope with all the psi-criminals running lose without any more Psi-Div to sort them out. Normally there are no long-lasting consequences when a big story ends and everything just goes back to normal (sometimes there's a new chief judge but so what?), but this would be a big change. Plus we'd get to see lots of long-standing characters die at once: Anderson, Shenker, Karyn, Janus etc....

"From Prog 1381 - Brothers of the Blood part 4.

Dolman to Vienna: I'm being sent to the colony on columbus. There's a school there for the Space Corps. I'm going to be billeted with a real family.

Don't look so fucking clever now, do you, twat?"

...oops.

Blushing now. My apologies to Gordon Rennie, obviously he was paying rather more attention than me. Sorry.

(Rather good research by garywilkinson too by the way.)

Dick.

Alright, I have had a bit to drink... and i might have been slightly harsh... but I think the above is basically valid.

Prog 1423. Judge Dredd by Gordon Rennie:

"I hear Dolman is doing well at the Academy."

NO HE BLOODY ISN'T!!! HE LEFT THE ACADEMY IN THE FIRST STORY HE EVER BLOODY APPEARED IN!!!

If you had read the ONLY story Dolman ever appeared in, i.e. if you knew who Dolman was, you would know HE IS NOT AT THE ACADEMY ANYMORE!

What is the point of letting OTHER PEOPLE write Dredd stories if they don't even bother to keep up with what John Wagner writes?

It's OK when they write their own stories with their own ideas which stand alone and are not sequels to anything anyone else wrote, but what is the point of somebody writing a story which is a DIRECT SEQUEL to Total War and alluding to a character from a story that somebody else wrote and then IGNORING WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT CHARACTER IN THE LAST EPISODE OF THAT CHARACTER'S DEBUT STORY??? It just doesn;t make sense and it insults the readers.

Seriously: I'm not a continuity nerd and I don't usually get hung up over these things, BUT: there must be a point, a threshold, a line, beyond which this sort of thing matters a little bit.

How can you refer to a story and tehn ignore the end of it? How can you have the GALL to write an episode in a series written by someone else and then make a mistake as obvious as that? It buggers up the story for people (i.e. everyone else) who have actually been following it.

Frankly, after this, I would rather read a prog with no Dredd in it than a Dredd story written by someone other than Wagner.

There are gateways dotted around all over the city, such as the one they used in Cry of the Werewolf.

Lots of us without progs yet. Does anyone know anything about why? Never had a delay this long before, except once when they didn't notice I renewed my subscription.

"Flashbacks to former thrills well handled."

You must be joking. Everyone of them was wrong, so wrong it looked as if Ennis hadn't even read any of the old stories. He blames Dredd for killing Giant and Dekker for goodness' sake!

When Kraken walks into a hostage situation unarmed and wearing handcuffs, and the democrats take him prisoner, and all the other judges outside think that's it, he's had it...

"Dumb move!"
"What the hell was he playing at?"
"Hey Dredd! That's one rookie you can scratch!"

... then Kraken disarms one of them, shoots all of the terrorists and saves all the hostages single-handed, and all the judges rush in expecting the worst and find him just standing there - still in cuffs - with smoke coming out of his gun, and blood-spattered hostages wide-eyed in shock, and he gets a round of applause when he walks out.

"First time Dredd had ever seen that ... twenty-year men forgetting themselves. Like they'd been watching Houdini."

There is a full page picture in superb detail by Will Simpson, with Kraken blazing away, and four insets showing each terrorist being blown away. One of the best moments ever. I was quite young when I read it and I was just really impressed that he turned the tables on the bad guys against such odds, ehen everyone else had given up on him... and the at the end of the episode they say he could even be letter that Dredd.

--------------------

Also, from Alien Wedding... "I want to be eaten from the inside!" Hilarious.

--------------------

(Incidentally, Dredd repeatedly ran over Grice with his lawmaster and squashed him, hence the line.)

That didn't stop Ving Rhames playing the Kingpin in Daredevil.
