Why did Andy and John Co-wrote this cool story?

Once we'd set up the deal with Dark Horse, John invited me to co-script it with him. I think he generally finds crossovers a bit uninspiring, and I had a lot of ideas and enthusiasm for the Aliens universe which he figured he could put to good use...

... and I got one-on-one tuition from the best writer in comics!  : )

Personally, I think thought balloons work best as captions... the finest example being the colour-coded-by-character thought-captions in BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.

Michael Bassett, who wrote and directed Deathwatch, is a 2000 AD fan - he pitched me some story ideas while I was editor, and we met up for a pint or three. He became less interested in working for 2000 AD once he got funding to direct his own movie, funnily enough.

He's a good bloke, I enjoyed his screenplay for Deathwatch (originally entitled No Man's Land), although it never really explained why all this supernatural stuff was going on, and the ending was a bit of a let-down.

What is there to say? I didn't know them from a bar of soap, but when Mark said they were 2000 AD fans, I offered to feature them in the Christmas issue. Nowt wrong with a bit of PR!
