General / Re: ABC Warriors - Who, What, Where, Why?

STORY QUESTIONS
1)Roughly eighty years passes between ABC warriors (Mars mission) and Ro-Busters, although I'm vauge about that. The Volgan wars occur in the mid 21st century and Ro-Busters takes place closer to the far end of the century, about 2088.
2)They were recruited by the mysterious Colonel Lash, a representative of Free Mars who wanted to bring peace to the frontier planet, which had been in a state of turmoil since colonisation (basically, everyone was at war with everyone else). The warriors cleaned everything up and passed into Martian legend.
3)Happy Shrapnel, an army buddy of Hammers and Joe. His hard-drinkin', hard-fightin' ways led to his downfall soon after the Mars mission, when he was killed in a bar-room brawl (this occured 'off-screen', as it were).
4)The original mission was cut prematurely short by editorial disputes behind the scenes, but the warriors basically cleaned up Mars then went their seperate ways. Hammers ended up in Ro-Busters not long after, where he met Ro-Jaws and Mek-Quake for the first time. Many centuries later, after Earth had become Termight, Nemesis recruited the old gang to help him in his fight against Torque.
5)Ro-Jaws ended up on Britannia in the Gothic Empire, cleaning out the toilets of the Savoy. When the war against Termight began, most of the staff were called up to fight, and he found himself promoted to valet, whereupon he met Nemesis, who had flown there to try to convince the Goths to take the threat more seriously. Although he subsequently ended up tagging along with the warriors for quite a while, he was only actually a member for the brief period between Nemesis book 6 and the Black Hole mission - initally replacing Nemesis, then gladly giving up his poistion in favour of Terri. He was more of a mascot, really.
Mek-Quake worked for the Termight forces as a siege engine for a while, even fighting on the opposing side to the Warriors during the invasion of the Gothic Empire, then joined them when Mad Ronn was killed, simply because he wanted to go where the fighting was.
6)He currently works at Deadlock's Kollege of Khaos on the Tiamat comet, but hasn't actually been seen since a cameo at the end of the Hellbringer mission.
7)Morrigun died just after the Warriors returned to Mars, crushed beneath the tracks of a tank.

Quote from: "The Enigmatic Dr X"Then, about 6 months after the merger, ABC Warriors started. That featured Hammerstein, from Ro-Busters, although the story was set some time after Ro-Busters.

Well, that's half the reason for your confusion -the original ABC warriros story was a prequel to Ro-Busters - essentially the tale of what Hammerstein got up to in his active days, before he became clapped-out army surplus and was bought up by Quartz.

Last week I said -

Quote from: "Dark Jimbo"Please never let Robbie write Dredd ever again.

I take it back! Just keep him away from the titular character, and he's golden. Does the 'crazy/stupid cit' stories just as well as Rennie, Wagner or Grant ever did.

God, I'm fickle.

Books & Comics / Re: Charley's War reprints again?

Quote from: "paulvonscott"Anyone know roughly how many volumes of Charley's War there will be in total?

I once worked it out, based on how many episodes the exisiting volumes had each contained, and reckon it would fit in nine books, ten at the very most - that's just the Pat Mills-scripted stuff, of course, though I can't imagine Titan will be bothering with the rest.

Suggestions / Re: Dredd Suggestions

Quote from: "alpha2167"Dredd kicking the bucket and his name living on by bloodline (whoever) appeals to a degree, especially as (as has been noted) the 'new' Dredd, being younger, would have a different and/or 'earlier' outlook on life and the city. That could be quite interesting.  However, it's still a bit of a "reset" - all that history that Dredd knows still happens, but the character doesn't really know it. I think I can cope with that, but I'm not really sure. OK, the stories would still be "Dredd" but, well, it wouldn't be, would it?  (I reserve my judgement until I see how it would play out... :-)

I have no worries at all on that score - after the sublime Sector House, which was, in effect, The Rico Show, I'm entirely confident that the strip can still feel every bit like 'Dredd' without the titular character being involved. Another, more recent example, is The Monsterous Machinations of PJ Maybe (hope I've namechecked the right one there) which was virtually all PJ, Beeny and another judge, but again couldn't have felt more 'Dredd.'
This does all depend on Wagner being involved, of course - he was the one that brought the consistent Mega-City One voice to those tales, and if we're honest the only reason this issue is ever really going to come up is if Wagner himself ever takes the Long Walk, one way or another (God forbid) - so it's all rendered a bit redundant anyway.

One thing that Rico's taking over might do is put an end to the excesses of the fill-in script-droids. Because Rico seems to be generally a more thoughtful, taciturn judge than Joe, we might see an end to those awful stories that have Dredd running around snarling and shouting and generally playing up to his own legend too much.

Quote from: "IAMTHESYSTEM"Advanced Stealth Tech would be ideal for Mega City 1's Justice Dept helping them monitor and control  the population despite all the flying camera's, cctv and other security devices.

One of Rennie's Dredds had a prototype stealth H-wagon, but I doubt we'll ever see a great deal more of it.

Quote from: "Godpleton"Dredd: Hershey looks like she accidentally sat down on a vibrator on the last page, and that's the highlight of an extremely tepid tale. Bad Stuff.

That was what annoyed me most actually, that dumb 'Wait a minute... you took out the whole crew?!' Surely the whole point of sending Dredd, of all people, on special missions is that you know he's going to get results? Why even send him over any old footslogging helmet unless you're confident in his abilities to get the job done?

Bah.

Quote from: "Keef Monkey"Can't quite remember what state the dino-head man was in last time we saw him so might need to dig that out, but apart from that it all seems clear enough.

Booted out of an airlock into deep space, and so, presumably, dead.

'Twixt plasteen slidewalks and asphalt slab,
'Midst radwaste foul and cityblocks drab,
Two blocks down from Runce's Diner,
(Best Munce in the Meg, You'll find none finer),
One short hop from the cross-city zoom,
As the crazies and futsies doth howl at the moon,
(Risking a breach of the peace disorder),
Down where the pongos and tap gangs marauder,
Beyond the old chem pit most noxious and noisome,
Past glowering eldsters and the juve who annoys 'em,
Round the memorial - 'Easy the Ferg!';
That remembers the day when ol' Dredd saved the berg,
From the mad tyrant Cal and his casual slaughter,
Of all the Meg's cits, every last son and daughter,
Alike upper classes and most worthless dregs,
By feeding them all to his man-eating Kleggs;
and just down the dark little bend of this alley,
Sits lonely droid Walter, Judge Dredd's old pally.
"I can't bear to live!" we doth hear him proclaim,
"I can't stand the suffewing! Can't stand the shame!
For three nights ago at a hot downtown disco,
I let myself fall for that Judge Dan Fwansisco!
He's so vewy handsome, from from forehead to groin,
And the fan club were just pleading I join,
But I can't stand the thought of betwaying my Dwedd,
'Tis why I must plunge this las-saw through mine head!"

Jesus, what a waste of half an hour! There was going to be more, but I really should get on with something more productive.

Quote from: "Mardroid"Thrills of the Future: Marauder.  So Gene will be back soon! Looks interesting. I wonder who/what the orange guy is? The insectoid variant of a humanoid supersoldier ('humanoid' and 'insectoid' a bit of a contradiction in terms, if you think about it. It's mostly the colouring and green beads, which could be eyes that I'm thinking of)? Or something we haven't seen before?
Eh? You did notice that this is written by Robbie Morrison, not Dan Abnett?

I think it's going to be a Dreddverse strip, as well.

Quote from: "mogzilla"lion king 2 ...in fact all the disney dvd "sequels"

Ah - but have you seen Lion King 3? An entirely different beast, that one. Rather than another sequel it's both a prequel and companion piece to the (excellent) first film, most of the story unfolding sort of 'alongside' the events of the first film but from alternative viewpoints, expanding and embellishing what we already knew. Not only is it a brilliant and hilarious film in its own right, but it manages to actually retroactively enhance your enjoyment of the original. No mean feat.

Can't believe I'm talking seriously about Disney on this forum, but... hey ho.

Quote from: "worldshown"Glad they ditched the Harry 20 angle too, but shame about there being no Devil. I was expecting the twist to be that whilst tunnelling they would find an alien demon or something to justify the 666 in the title.

Still think there's scope for a 'POW camp in Hell' story.
