Help! / Re: The Romanov Job
28 August, 2006, 01:42:51 AM
I suppose the 'bad guy' is Captain Emmanuelle Arkwright (I think that was his name), head of Britannia Military Intelligence. He features briefly in 'The Cadre Infernale' story, reprinted in Book 2 of the new Dante Rebellion collections. He's hired by the Tsar to take out Dante, and he's got some sort of psycic powers that enable him to kill people with his mind, basically.

There are at least three other characters that could also be termed 'the bad guy' but it would kinda spoil the story if you've not read it to say who they are.

And the moment when Dante realises Konstantin is still alive, and they meet again for a rematch, is going to be another of THE great moments...

If we don't see another post from you within a week, Thyrllseeker, we'll know the worst has happened and alert the authorities. Any special requests for when your dessicated, mould-encrusted body is found? Who would you like your comic collection to go to?

It's the best line Dirty Harry never had, frankly. It takes everything from my favourite Dirty Harry moment and does it better, and more succintly, and proves (for me) why Wagner is a fucking genius.

Um... except it's a Pat Mills line. Sorry Jim. :)

Your first clue should have been 'The Blood of Satanus'...

Not the coolest, but what I think's possibly the funniest, is in Blood of Satanus, where Dredd is told that a perp needs handling 'with kid gloves' because he knows some vital information. Dredd bursts in, punches the perp in the face and yells maniacally 'Suck my kid glove, punk!'

I laughed for about three days after reading that for the first time. It's a hysterically misjudged and needlessly over-the-top moment, never bettered.

Hurroo, Huzzah and Hooray!

I'm glad I held off buying the Early Cases.

So if you're someone who has an unhealthy interest in mythology, knows more about fairy tales than is probably good for them, isn't a goth in any way but does love all things horror, is happily prepared to slog away at pretensiously wordy comics (i.e. Promethea) and secretly revels in the wordiness, but hates most American comics and despises all kinds of teenage goth wankery - will you (I) like Sandman?

Bless. :) You can smell the sheer glee at having (part of) a proper graphic novel published...

Exactly - no-one goes to MacDonalds hoping to sample the very best health salads that today's food market can offer. They go to get a crappy, junky, but guiltily tasty burger.

They know it.
We know it.
MacDonalds know it.

Stop trying to pretend you're a healthy place to eat. You're fooling no-one.

A bizarre and baffling Dante question whose relevance will become clear in time. Just bear with me for now.

Of the following three characters, which two would you ideally rather see in a state of undress...?

Eloise De Jannissare?

Julianna Makarov?

Akira Sagawa?

To be honest, I'm just going to wait to read it too, and hope that we get a TPB.

She'll helpfully recap the plots of Books 1 and 2 in extensive detail for those who haven't read either and are slighty bemusedly wondering what all the fuss is about.

It's quite grotesque how they've had to shave most of his gorilla-like arm just to get it on there, leaving him with an alternately angry-red freshly-shaved skin with stubble, and hairy-like-a-pubic-jungle arm.

UEEERGHH.
