As you say MIK, definitely meant as more of a metaphor than anything else.

There was definitely a story, (a Judge Anderson, possibly?), that mentioned "the third sister" and she's called something like "Delirium" or something, but I think that was intended as more of a metaphor than an actual character.

Aha... You mean this bit in Necropolis:

I don't know about a third Sister, but the Alan Grant story Lucid (Megs 238-241) added Dementia, Ephermera and Pustula to their ranks.

The intro also states that Cradlegrave is forthcoming in the collection, yay!

Amazeballs! This is actually going to be a damn good little John Smith hardback library when it's done - not bad considering he was all but absent from the initial run.

Is Meltdown Man a play on Piltdown Man..?

Probably not - but it did give me an idea for a forum art comp entry a mere decade ago...

When SAS Sergeant Nick Stone is caught in a nuclear explosion, he finds himself catapulted into a strange stone-age world of human-animal hybrids, ruled over by tyrannical shaman Leeshar.
With the aid of Sabretooth cat-woman Liana, Direwolf-man Gruff and Arsinoitherium Q-Bone, Stone must lead the slave-like Yujees in rebellion and become... Piltdown Man!

That description of the Dredd story is a little reductive to be useful in comparing the two - thats Plot F of Crime Fiction in general, so it's hard to say its a specific rip off of a particular Dredd - it's just a common hook that we've probably seen in Dredd a helluva lot more times than just The Big Sleep.

Also, I very much doubt Wagner pores lovingly over Case Files books the way we do - is he really going to remember a two-parter published 35 years ago?

... it looks like there is just too much material left for [Defoe] to be complete in two volumes and not enough for three. This is a shame as it would be nice to have the complete story in this format. I'm guessing the most recent story - 'The Divisor' - will not make the final cut.

Hmm, you may well be right - we'd be looking at a book of a little over 300 pages. That's such a shame. If they couldn't fit the whole of it in, then I'm not sure why they didn't just split the six Leigh Gallagher books evenly across the two volumes...

It's the final episode of The Scorpion Dance. Volt finds her guilty of unjudicial conduct - for kissing Dredd - and demotes her to the ranks with a proviso to undergo compulsory re-education; Demarco rankles at the re-education as she thinks she's done nothing wrong, and hands in her badge.

re cash on demand

what a fab trailer - couldn't find anywhere to stream it though!

i'm guessing harry enfield & paul whitehouse may have stolen Andre Morrell's annunciation - especially the word "money" for their b/w sketch

Ahaha - I love those sketches!

The whole film's on YouTube, if you're so inclined.

Cash on Demand. A taut Hammer heist movie, built almost entirely around the performances of leads Peter Cushing and Andre Morrell. Cushing is the upright, uptight bank manager forced to rob his own bank; Morrell is the charming, avuncular thief who makes him do it, on pain of his family's cold-blooded execution. This is as about as lean as thrillers get - the whole film takes place in the bank (or just outside) and there's a total cast of about ten actors; there's not a scene or line of dialogue that's not relevant to the heist, or telling us about the characters. Cushing and Morrell are a powerhouse. The pleasure of the film is not so much in seeing the heist unfold, but watching their verbal sparring. The ending falls a bit flat, which is such a shame, but for what it is the rest of the film's practically perfect.

Another thing: Why was Erebus from The Red Seas called Erebus when he was clearly Cerberus?

I'm just not sure Edginton is too good at his mythology. When they meet the Norse gods in Red Seas there's stuff about Loki being Odin's son and Thor's half-brother - which comes entirely from Marvel comics.

General / Re: Anyone seen Judge Dolman?

I don't really get who's asking for Dolman to return. I mean... why? Surely the really interesting thing about Dolman was that he quit the judges, turned his back on Justice Department and left the city. The moment Carroll had him return and become just a judge by proxy, the most interesting thing about him became his beard.
