"Can't be Dredd - shoulder-pad is on the wrong side. M@"

Ha, ha! That reminds me of an old Daily Star story (Ron Smith artwork).

Two completely out of shape guys pretend to be Judges and 'rob' a bank. On the way out they wave to Judge Dredd, who waves back. Seconds later he goes back and arrests them. The main reason for his suspicion... pads on the wrong shoulder!

It's not a very good one then.

Yep, that's what I'd go for if I wanted to explain away the fact that it obscures his vision.

Surely we could throw Dredd in there for a few more doubloons?

Yep, I agree with The Adventurer.

I'd like to some cool Nu-Earth stories without Rogue Trooper. I remember a really good one in a summer special (or sumat) once, about two Nort soildiers trying to surrender (very moving).

Do them as individual tales. Colin Wilson could illustrate.

That was in reply to WoD's tails of woe.

QUOTE WoD
been attacked by a swan...that was scary and not very nice. They are also persistant...chased us for miles.
Been bit on the bridge of the nose by an alsation, so revenge would be good.
Also been kicked by a horse, and I reckon, with a bit of training...I could take em on. 'Shergar' the lot of em.

This forum aint to easy to use.

I think the animal kingdom has it in for you. Ever seen "Day of the Animals?"

Ed Harris.

If he agreed to do it. You could be sure of getting a fully formed Dredd, with an actor how really believed he was Dredd.

Stick together his 'John Glenn' from the 'Right Stuff' with his 'Major König' from 'Enemy at the Gates' and I think you'd come up with something pretty cool.

Jeez, there are some really bad Dredds shown here. I hope this stuff isn't still going on? I've just renewed my subscription after a ten year absence. Tell me it's not true.

I like some of these examples, they make me want to dust off my Bristol Board and dig out my Rapidograph.

peterwolf quote: "Whoever it was who drew Dredd when he first appeared in prog 2 onwards."

Do you mean Mick McMahon when he was doing his Carlos Ezquerra impersonation?

That's tough. To judge I'd have to pick the comics I re-read the most.

Not in order:

The Midnight Surfer (Quality Comics Reprint)
Marshal Law, Fear and Loathing (Hard Back)
Judge Dredd Annual 1981
The Last American
2000AD prog 148 (for the cover)
2000AD prog 167 (for the cover and the Terror Tube story)
and I agree.. Maus

To pick one, I'd go for... Judge Dredd Annual 1981

Hi Wake,
I thought that might be the reason for the size. I think both helmets are going for roughly the same style. It's a mater of personal preference and let's face it there's plenty of that amongst Dredd fans.

I like the style of your helmet and hope you have every success with it.

Is it just me then, that thinks the Termight helment is too big, and the finish a little on the rough side?

I'll assume the answer is, yep.

QUOTE : The Watcher.
"I suppose its because if you follow the red line, the nose 'X' follows through around the eye piece, which the top version doesnt - to me, that makes it look a bit clumsy to my eye, although i know a lot of classic artists did it that way too (Cam Kennedys most obviously springs to mind)"

It is a nice touch, but when I checked through some of my favourite covers, McMahaon, Bolland etc. and they don't do it. Even Dillon doesn't always do it that accurately.

The second picture of Wake's does show it off better.

I dug this image off the other forum to compared the helmets for size, I chose the larger heads in Wake's to be fair.

If you've got a large head I think Wake's looks okay, if a little wide. However, I still prefer the finish and sharpness of line on the first. I also prefer the style, it's kind of a combination of my favourites.http://www.joedredd.com/dreddcompare.jpg">
