Off Topic / Re: Meeting Gerry Anderson...........
24 November, 2003, 02:09:53 AM
One of my friends used to work at the Gerry Anderson Exhibiton in Blackpool way back in the 80's and I was lucky enough to meet Gerry and chat to him. He struck me as a really nice guy and I was really honoured to meet someone whose work I have had so much regard for since, well as long as I can remember.

I even got to have my picture taken holding Thunderbird 3 standing with Gerry :)

On the other hand, last year I was in London and a friend of mine introduced me to the other Gerry Anderson, brother of the very lovely Pamela, another nice guy but sadly his sister was nowhere in sight.

Well my nick is pretty obvious really and comes from Marlon'Chopper'Shakespeare, one of my all-time favourite comic characters! As for the 666 when I first registered for the board a couple of years ago, the nick of Chopper was taken and I needed to change it and happened to be listening to Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden (up the hammas) on my computer at the time, and as the song changed Number of the Beast began to play so 666 it was, though it was almost 667 the neighbour of the beast ;)

Not guilty as charged here, though I do admit to being a bit of a ginger freckled geek who draws smiley faces everywhere and have been known on more than one occasion to write the words CHOPPER or CHOP THE JUG in crayon in the most obscene of places :)

Dispite what a few individuals have said about DvD this is a very good game and great fun to play on all formats, sadly the multiplayer angle is lacking but as a stand alone title this is up there with the best of them and is far better than a lot of titles that have been released on consoles of late.

Hi Max,
Don't forget that if you do lose Fire during your round and you have at least two other characters with the 2000AD team logo on their base (i.e. Mortis, Fear, etc) that you can use their team ability to gain a +1 to your attack against one choosen foe or team. This is great if you are up against someone with the Spider-Man wildcard ability.

All in all the 2000AD characters are good value for their points, especially Alpha and Hershey, but I do think that Dredd is a little weak.

As already stated in my other post, both the X-box and PS2 version have an auto save option at the end of each level.

?21 including P+P here for the PS2 version and ?14.99 and trading in Knights of the Old Republic for the X-box version. Pity really as the PS2 version is all but identical.

General / Re: CHEATS for Dredd vs death........
20 October, 2003, 01:31:03 AM
Cheats are only unlocked when you complete a level with a Judge Dredd rating. This may take a couple of attempts on some levels as take the docks level you cant kill any perps other than the heavy weapons guys who wont surrender.

The first cheat Mirror World is pants all it does is change the gun from one hand to the other and makes the game difficult to handle.

Both X-Box and PS2 version of DvD have an end of level save option built in, rather than a save as you go option. This can be a major pain in the backside on some levels of the game, but the game does autosave at every checkpoint so you only need to make it as far as one and dont have to re-run over the same areas over and over again.

Just a few points here before I post my own reviews of the currently available formats. The game works excellently on the two player co-op mode perhaps the single best feature of this game and can be really good fun, but sadly the same cant be said for the multiplayer option. I am not a stranger to FPS and four games in a row I found myself unable to kill more than a couple of perps, and on one occasion not even a single kill to my credit. No matter how much you tweak the controls, the AI of the perps remains stupidly hard and they just blow the crap out of you!

One of the features I was really looking forward to from the sneaks that have been leaked all year, was the online play but sadly neither version has this option which really sucks.

Still the game itself has lots of excellent points and looks and sounds stunning.

Heres a quick tip for those playing on the console versions. If your forced to re-load your lawgiver or other weapon and in close combat with a creature or perp, rather than just let the beast beat you down, hit the punch button and then fire immediatly and it will cut out the reload animation.

Reviews will be up tomorrow.

Hi DD,
It was rumoured that Indy will get the first ever Clix mounted figure in the shape of Dredd on Lawmaster, beating Johnny Blazes Ghost Rider, but as yet this is still just a rumour, albeit a cool one.

I wouldnt expect to see Mantas or H-Wagons or any other large vehicle appear though, but they could well appear as images on the maps when they release the Mega-City One version, like they did with the Batcave and Avengers Mansion.

MageKnight(Heroclix fantasy sister) already has mounted figures and large vehicles but the larger vehicles dont tend to be as popular as the normal figures. However another interesting rumour concerns the first Indy Big Guy figure. So far Marvel has the Sentinal, and DC has Sinestro, and if all goes well Indy will get Mek-Quake or Satanus! I have already seen a green (unfinished sculpture) of a T-Rex so this could well be the one.

Cross um if ya got um

General / Re: best ROCKIN' albums
12 October, 2003, 09:16:06 PM
Rock on! Not half! I have for the past twenty-five years been a rock dj, working in various clubs and at one time having my own mobile gig that was really popular. Having read through some of the comments above I found time that I add my own comments.

The majority of the bands mentioned so far I have seen live on more than one occasion, or at least once, including Led Zeppelin (Knebworth their last gig) and some of them are among the best live acts ever. Others though I found tedious such as Whitesnake, Bon Jovi (after 85), and I know some are going to hate this but Metallica just never cut it for me live or otherwise!

Some of the best sounds in my own collection have already been mentioned but a few seem to have slipped the net so here is my own top ten in no particular order.

2112: Rush. Excellent concept album and contains some amazing work by Lee, Peart, and Leifson.

Iron Maiden: Iron Maiden. A band who I have followed closely and got to know personally since the very late 70's and one of the best debut albums in British rock scene ever! Still cuts it against new material some 22 years later.

Black Rose: Thin Lizzy. Phil Lynott was without a doubt one of the best lyricsist that the 20th Century ever produced, with a style that was in keeping with Keats and Shelly than contempery aritsts. Black Rose is an amazing album and the title song stirs the soul.

Meatloaf: Bat Out of Hell. Okay not everyone likes overly fat, sweaty guys who have a thing for handkeriefs, but see this man live and you will change your mind forever. Bat was the first album I learned every single word to be heart and still is a firm fav of mine.

Rage Against the Machine: Rage Against the Machine. For sheer volume of talent and sound this is perhaps one of the best debut albums of the 90's and contains some stunning material and Zax's vocal styling adds excellently to Tom Morrelo's guitar sounds, giving a seventies feel with a nineties sound.

Queen: Brighton Rock. Despite some pop tunes this is one of the bands best albums and has some classic rock tracks on it and well worth listening too.

Alice Cooper: Goes To Hell. Without Alice there would be no Kiss, Marylin Manson, Rob Zombie, etc and this is the real showman at his best. Fighting against depression, alcholisim and the fact he may be losing his mind, this album is gutteral and over the top in a very seventies fashion.

AC/DC: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Two Words Bonn Scott! Every single song on this album is from the gut and it shows :)

Motorhead: Bomber. An album that most other rock dj's pass over but has some of the bands best tracks ever on it and well worth a listen.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Welcome to the Pleasure Dome. Okay before everyone jumps down my neck and screams DISCO to me here, take a listen to the album and ear the excellent guitar's, synths and bass that are all harmonious with each other, yet seem some what lost on what is effectivly a pop album. Holly Johnsons vocals are haunting and the lyrics are very well constructed and this album is constantly playing in my home, much to the annoyance of my kids. WTTPD is easily equal to anything I have heard since its release back in 83' and the constant remixes that have appeared over the years only add to the styling. I feel if Hendrix where still around today this is the kind of music he would have been creating.

Okay thats my two-creds worth hope its not too long
