But what if it is the new Jar Jar?

Or says dialogue like "I hate sand. It's all rough. Not like you, you're smooth."

I never fancied Princess Leia either.

Can I just say that I never understood all of the "Oh, he's so cool!" fuss about Boba Fett.

Billy Connolly and the Tenth Doctor can't save family drama/comedy What We Did On Our Holiday

Are you still on Ws?

I thought of a new challenge for you: Watch and review EVERY Adam Sandler movie.

Thanks for the heads up Bear. I watched those and they are a but special.

I literally have no idea what was going on in Master of Shadow and Beyond the Dune Sea. Additionally Smuggler's Run managed the not inconsiderable task of making George Lucas' dialogue sound naturalistic. Betrayal is just a fight.

Like you say, Minty has spoiled us by having proper story and script.

What confuses me is that the time spent on every Alfrid scene could have been replaced with time spent on one of the dwarfs, you know, the little fellas from the original book doing something nice and heroic. Or even having a line. Half of the poor feckers don't even get a line in this one.

Wow!

That sounded really negative.

I did sort of enjoy it honest - I recall being more positive on the cinema viewings.

I dunno, I just don't think it has anywhere the rewatch factor of others (even Desolation of Smaug). I could watch Fellowship and Two Towers almost endlessly.

I finally got round to watching this (again) in the comfort of my own home and I was definitely very disappointed.

Almost everything about it screams how much better they did things in the original LOTR films. Nearly everything in this looks like it was filmed against a green screen background.  And even some of the physical props look more fake this time round. (Compare teh ruins of Dale to the ruins of Osgiliath).

The big fights have their moments but lack the clearly defined "Defend this!" or "Do this heroic thing" of the earlier films (exception given to the Elves and the Dwarf shield wall) with random amounts of bad guys arriving as the plot requires.

It's the usual current obsession with "But this will be cool, who cares if it makes sense" and can be applied from everything to war worms, armies of bats (that travel at same pace as foot soldiers), humongous armoured orcs (really, who would have a chance against them) and a maddening obsession with explicitly and lumpenly literally linking everything to the LOTR films.

Jeebus, even the light relief is played better in the those - and remember the original trilogy includes Return of The King where we have "You and whose army?" lines and Legolas does a comedy take-down of a giant war elephant.

They must have been really chuffed to get a good actor like Ryan Gage in the production - and he must have been something special on-set because of the amount of times they keep pointlessly returning to the Alfrid character. His scenes (and performance) drag on forever.

(I'm specifically not comparing it to the book of The Hobbit as I'm pretty sure we established long ago that this really isn't an adaption of that material).

If Jackson gets asked to adapt The Silmarillion, I don't know which of us will commit suicide first.

There were those Psi Judges that used their powers but then made you forget they existed.

I think.

CATASTROPHE just turned up on Love Film. I suspect it was on C4 previously. Kookie sit com fave Sharon Horgan and the quite edible Rob Delaney in mismatched couple expecting baby and wedding high jinks. Painfully observed but really funny.

Same for me with Oblivion.

Assumed it was dud even with Cruise on board but really enjoyed it. Some clichéd and dumb stuff happens but really liked the premise and the look of the movie.
