News / Scared Lobsters and Scary Faces this way comes!
07 October, 2004, 07:26:16 PM
Lobster Random
Written by Simon Spurrier and drawn by Carl Critchlow.

Beginning in Prog 1411, (on sale 13th October) heralds the welcome return of everyone?s neo-crustacean Lobster Random in ?Tooth and Claw?.

Torturer-for-hire Lobster Random has got himself a bit of legit work after a messy break-up with his droid lover Klik, but the trouble soon starts when he?s hired by the widow of Cadmium Redd - the scientist that created the GM Lobster soldier programme - to help bury his remains on the planet Nixx: the war world where Random was operated on and had his pain and sleep centres removed.

Random is understandably reluctant to return to the site of his nightmares ? but the widow Redd?s robotic chassis would turn any head...

Faces
Written by John Higgins and Mindy Newell, illustrated by Higgins.

For Carl Woolf, love is blind, REALLY blind. Starting in Prog 1412 (on sale 20th October) ?Faces?, the sequel to the 1987 2000 AD series ?Freaks?, written by Pete Milligan and illustrated by John Higgins, follows up the story of Carl and the Kakkakian Kilquo since she decided to stay on Earth. A morphing ability has enabled Kilquo to find work in films and on TV as an actress, but things are not looking good for the couple after Woolf?s dotcom business collapses.

Worse still, there are shadowy government forces at work who are taking an interest in Kilquo?s skills...

The Judge Dredd Megazine, the award winning sister title to 2000 AD, is leading the way in superior sci-fi and fantasy entertainment with a complete revamp starting from Meg 224, designed to maintain its lead within the monthly comic book market.

Being perfect bound, 100 pages and a myriad of original comic content, interviews and reviews of all aspects of the Sci-fi/fantasy genre, the Megazine is set to be the premiere Sci-fi/fantasy lifestyle comic in the market.

In addition to a raft of original storylines by the UK?s most respected comic talent, the exciting development is the launch the ?Heatseeker? review columns. Guest writers are on-board deciding ?what?s hot and what?s not? in the world of sci-fi/fantasy. From Sci-fi/Cult cinema and TV, to Anime and Hong Kong movies, Graphic Novels to Computer games, the Megazine promises to provide its own ?unique? opinions on the genres!

But also ?The Megazine Interrogation? will be introduced. Author David Bishops presents in-depth interviews with the all-time greats of the UK comics industry, with Arthur Ranson the first to face the bright lights!

Jason Kingsley, Co-Publisher of 2000 AD and the Megazine said, ?The Megazine has always had an distinctive tone, and from what we?ve seen with huge successes within the sci-fi/fantasy market and the feedback of our readers, we can offer valued insight and opinions which is why we?ve developed extra content most importantly ?Heatseekers? and ?The Megazine Interrogation?.

?We want to appeal to a larger audience that may not have considered reading a monthly comic before, but would be interested in our take on the current sci-fi entertainment out there as we?re a recognized authority on the genre?.

Jason concludes, ?We?ve enjoyed enormous success with the Megazine so far, and with our new content and especially additional stories, we hope to secure our lead and ?blow your mind!??

Meg 224 is on sale from 22nd September 2004.

News / War is declared on Mega-City One!
16 September, 2004, 06:31:23 PM
This is a message from Total War High Command - the citizens of Mega-City One have suffered under the yoke of Justice Department fascism for too long. The Judges must be removed by all means necessary, and it falls to us to make sure that power is restored to the people.

We are declaring war on the Judges, and will not shrink from our task. The city will be engulfed in a cleansing fire, and make no mistake, there will be casualties.

The survival of the Big Meg is hanging in the balance, and the clock starts ticking in Prog 1408 (22 September 2004). The correspondents John Wagner and Henry Flint will be reporting these historic events as they happen.

Justice Department will be destroyed.

That is all.

Those Squaxx dek Thargo interested in purchasing rom-zom-com Shaun of the Dead on DVD may be interested to know the HMV exclusive edition contains a free, original 2000 AD mini-comic written by the film's creators Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright and illustrated by Frazer Irving. As with the 'There's Something About Mary' strip that appeared in the Galaxy's Greatest in April, it details the hitherto unrevealed back story to another of the minor characters.

The 'Mary' story also appears on the DVD itself, amongst the many bonus features.
