Film & TV / Re: Happy Birthday, Simon Pegg!......

He looked both pissed and totally uninterested to be there, unlike the woman from Garbage who looked like she wanted to rip everyone a new one.

However, Pegg gave us Spaced and SotD and is generally pretty good on the TV, so I'm not going to go off him due to an appearance on the fucking Brits.

I think one of your points regarding Heatseekers makes sense. Rather than being a "trashing" column, it would be better if most of the columns were "here's something you really must see, and here's why" (which some of them are), leaving Rennie to be the resident grumpy sod.

I'd say The Meg edges it of late in terms of the quality of the strips. Both have managed to stay about the 60 per cent line that I used to judge them on (i.e. that at least 60 per cent wasn't rubbish). As for the text features in The Meg, I think they're fine, and I don't see how they're in any way tricky to read.

Bear in mind that Amazon UK is utterly hopeless with regards to listings. My latest book originally had a publication date of late December. This was then bumped to January, but at the start of December, Amazon UK slapped a ?1.99 finder's fee on this "hard to find" item. I contacted them, saying I was the author, and that they were screwing my pre-orders, due to the fee. Their response was pretty much "we don't give a shit, and there's nothing we can do anyway". After THREE WEEKS of complaining to them (my publisher was also doing this), they changed the listing. Therefore, always take any listing on Amazon UK with not a pinch of salt but a bucketload.

Has anyone actually ordered any of these books from the Future Shop? If so, how are they shipped? Seeing as 2000 AD and the Meg are shipped in envelopes and non-comic items I've had shipped from Rebellion in the past have sometimes turned up damaged, I was wondering whether the books have protective packaging. I'd be happy to order from Rebellion, but not if the things are just sent in a normal envelope or an inadequate jiffy bag.

1. Apparently not, given the number of typos.
2. Because someone evidently thought it was a good idea, to avoid some of the pages having larger margins. It wasn't a good idea.

In MC-1, this is probably down to money/the lack of likely success when fighting the Judges. However, there have been plenty of occasions over the course of the strip where a lawyer has argued that the Judges have no rights to hold someone, and a few where a lawyer has appealed against a Judge's decision. In effect, the legal system of MC-1 is close to the one we have today, just without the 12-man jury system. (In fact, it's close to what Labour want to bring in in the UK.)

The problem is, these trendy Hoxton types largely vanished three years ago. According to an ex-publisher mate of mine, this would have hit the mark in 2002, but is hopelessly dated now.

I would be amazed if a complete Nemesis isn't part of the series (probably two Nemesis books per TPB). As for your other ideas, I'm guessing a complete Dredd is never going to happen, but a Chopper volume might go down well (the original graffiti story, the b/w MacNeil one and Song of the Surfer?Oz could then be that month's Dredd book).

Shimura's an odd one anyway for me. I've really enjoyed the recent episodes in the Meg, and thought I may as well buy the TPB. However, I first decided just to "check", by re-reading those stories I have bundled away in my various boxes of (generally shite) vol. 2 Megs. I read the first two and decided to save the fifteen quid.

Pretty poor usability here. Most people won't even known about the OT table. If you do want to split the list, you really need to have either much shorter tables, or two separate pages. If the primary page is to be the "main" message board, there needs to be a link to "off topic" at the top of the main page.

Personally, I was happy the way it was?splitting forums apart usually leads to fewer people using them, because it's more hassle to check >1 forum than it is to check just one.

My problem with it is that it doesn't seem up to the quality of previous Bogie Man stuff. However, like most Bogie Man (and Meg stuff for that matter), it'll probably read better in one sitting.

Links / Re: WOW TV Spot Trailer

Quite frankly, I'm not in the slightest bit interested in this film. Spielberg has totally ignored the original, changing the location, timeline (which, frankly, is one of the most interesting things?who wouldn't want to see "Sharpe vs steampunk aliens"?), added a stupid kid, and cast Tom bloody Cruise as the "hero".

Pendragon's film looks like total crap?the trailer was simply laughable. Luckily, Jeff Wayne's version looks promising, and the test footage is very fine indeed?check out the fighting machine at http://waroftheworldsonline.com/ (26 Jan link).
