To be perfectly honest, this doesn't really bother me at all. V could work well in the USA?at least if the source material is handled with care (see High Fidelity for an example of how a story's relocation can work); also, having seen her in Garden State, I've decided Portman's actually a pretty good actress. It's just a shame she took the role inn those bloody awful Star Wars movies.

(Also, there's nothing to say the V film won't be set in Britain?it's not like she can't just speak in a British accent, or be an ex-pat.)

If you take the shots yourself, you can generally get away with using them under various "fair use" laws. If you take them from elsewhere, you cannot use them without permission from the copyright holder. However, in my experience, asking for permission only draws attention to yourself. The one time I asked for reprint rights for www.wireviews.com, I nearly got sued by an American newspaper. These days, I just credit the relevant publication and have a copyright disclaimer that says I'll take down information should the copyright holder want me to.

There are a couple of pages with some very oddly placed speech balloons?they're the ones. I'm pretty sure Tharg mentioned this a few issues later, and showed how the pages should have looked.

"War Machine" dragged on a bit and the break mid-way didn't really help. However, when read in a single sitting, it's a really good reboot of Rogue Trooper. If the same team had been kept on, I'm pretty certain we'd be referring to it as a classic strip, and not a load of total shite.

Uh, because I spent about a day in Photoshop editing the image! As I said, this was a heavily edited image, the idea being to have a "new" Oli Frey cover image for the tribute issue of Zzap! I figured most people would never have seen the 2000 AD Rogue pic, so I recoloured some of it (most obviously the skin), edited other bits (removing the "Fr1day" from the helmet), added some chunks from other Oli pics, and ended up with that cover art.

Here's the cover art I was talking about, heavily modified from Oli's original, which graced the back of Prog 774. (This time, with added pic.)http://www.snubcommunications.com/external/zzap107_pre_cl.jpg">

We used a heavily edited version of Oli's Rogue pic for the cover of Zzap!64 #107, a tribute edition edited by none other than ex-Zzap!64 editor Gordon Houghton. See http://www.zzap64.co.uk/zzap107/zzap107misc.html for more info.

IIRC, Oli's still illustrating for various books for children.

How about "Shafted", after *that* pilot TV show?

I seem to remember seeing this a long time ago?at least as far back as Bush's first election victory. As an American friend of mine said, would you *really* want the US to be governed by Britain? I don't think so!

:: Could someone *please* start double-checking those

Heck, if Rebellion would provide me with a couple of copies of each book, I'd proof the covers for nothing (and I'm one of the professional writer/journo types, apparently).

Erm, yes, hence me saying "However, the Robo-Hunter cover makes no sense whatsoever, seeing as it's for a totally different story!"

As for a different cover, didn't Gibson do a whole bunch of covers for Best of 2000 AD monthly? Mind you, I guess the original art is gone.

Judging from previous books, the only changes will be minor. 13 and Stront Dog look all right, in my opinion. However, the Robo-Hunter cover makes no sense whatsoever, seeing as it's for a totally different story! When that story finally gets reprinted, The Day of the Droids cover is going to look like a stupid mistake.

With the sheer number of pin-ups and covers Rebellion has at its disposal, I don't think it really needs to commission anything new for these books. However, it would be nice if the image selection process made a bit more sense.

As for Bad Company, I'm waiting for that one with much anticipation. Pity Amazon UK has currently slapped a ?1.99 "finder's fee" on it, thereby meaning there's no bloody way I'm going to pre-order it at the moment.

Good luck with Wanadoo?it's not a company I'd ever recommend, but it does seem to have at least some happy user (unlike Tiscali, say). Yes, you still have to pay for line rental. As for the number of PCs, it shouldn't make any difference. I was using an ISP once that said you could only use one PC. I had three on the network. The issue is really to do with bandwidth usage rather than the number of machines you have online.
