Didn't really want to use up another days holiday, and, someone with a 4x4 had been down our street already so getting out onto the gritted roads turned out to be much easier than I had feared. My little Toyota Corolla kicks snow's arse!

We had about a foot of snow here this morning, looked beautiful. Once I got outside though it turned out to be really light fluffy stuff and after unburying the car it was a pretty easy drive to work. Nice and quiet on the roads.

Just going out for a recce but to be honest, from the depth of the snow, even the mountain bike is a non-starter. There's a foot of snow on the roof of the shed.

Yep, same over here about an hour ago Steve. It's laid off a bit but doesn't look like letting up. Could well be that my commute is by mountain bike along the Downs-Link Way tomorrow.

General / 2000AD Dec/Jan Art Comp. Suited and Rebooted.
01 December, 2010, 11:23:26 PM
Borag Thungg boarders! Welcome again to the to the Galaxy's Finest Art Comp.

Last time out we had one of the closest fought and most abundantly attended competitions that records recall, congratulations and thanks again to everyone who made it such a belter.

The victor in that scintillating skirmish was forum stalwart .Woolly and as behooves his exalted position he has chosen the subject of the current comp. So Ctrl+Alt+Del and hit the on/off switch 'cause it's reboot time.

That's right, reboot 2000AD and/or it's characters to suit a specific period or genre, or as .Woolly put it in his own words...

QuoteI think the reboot/redesign idea seems to have legs - let's do it!

So, if 2000AD was being launched today, or was a Marvel comic, or was a boys comic in the 50s, or whatever, how would you have designed your favorite thrills?

Plenty of scope for artistic awesomosity there art fiends. This competition will run for a longer period of time than is usual, approximately two months. I know many art comp regulars will be contributing to the magnificent Advent Calender again this year, so in order that people have a comfortable amount of time to have a go at that and this as well the comp will run till 8pm Monday the 31st of January 2011.

First person to do a CLiNT rip-off gets a special "prize". I'm sharpening it now...

Remember, it's 2000AD and/or characters, so you've got plenty to play with.

GOOD LUCK!

Pure class Steve.

But unfortunately I'm afraid we will now have to take you out the back and shoot you for "Possession of Artistic Talent in the First Degree".

MyGrimmBrother (Matt Soffe) posted a link to this on Faceache the other day and I was utterly entranced by the atmosphere the guy creates, and his skill, wow. They are all variations on a theme but holy shit they're good.

I can pretty much guarantee I'll be in the pub for a great deal of the weekend anyway but the chance to get a sketch from Mick McMahon, Steve Dillon and Kev O'neill, plus the other greats, is too tempting.

Hadn't noticed the lack of small press when I ordered the pass. That's a bit shit isn't it?

Doing Bristol and Brum as well next year as well, it's just nice to get away for a weekend and talk pissed up comicy shit to other like minded weirdoes to be honest.

There was a Suzuki 4x4 in a ditch on the way to work this morning. "Must have been driving like a c*nt" I thought as I approached it, and as I drove past I observed emblazoned on the side, "Sussex paranormal research Group". Right again.

Those Steampunk pics are flipping marvelous. Cheers Buttonman.

So, let me just confirm what we're going with before I do a thread. Reboots, as Wonder Woolly says...

...and run it over a longer time period so people can get their advent calender contributions done and still have a crack at the comp. A couple of months as suggested earlier seems a good idea, end of January deadline for entries.

I've got a nagging feeling that we did the reboot thing or something very similar recently though. I distinctly remember a great Cravenoir Eagle style Dredd page and a Mike Carroll Twinkle style cover. Or did I dream that? I'll have a check (my mastery of the search function is, I've discovered, crap).
