Suggestions / Money Spinning Idea For Rebellion?!?!
15 October, 2003, 07:18:55 AM
After an hour or so spent lurking around the various daily Threads I like nothing more than reviewing the Covers from different eras of 2000ad. I think a (looseleaf?) book of these covers would be something well worth shelling out a few sheckels for.

Does anyone else share this passion of enjoying the covers of a bygone age or am I alone here?

You could arguably do them as 100 copy booklets with a brief synopsis of the contents of each prog on the reverse of each page.

I reckon this would be popular with committed fans & would probably be quite cheap for Rebellion to do, so what about it?

General / Prog 1320, Poo & Hunt The Sperm
05 December, 2002, 04:29:03 AM
Everyone has found the poo in the prog, never mind that, what about the sperm.

My moneys on panel 5 page 2 of Red Seas. (dripping off the branch)

Have we ever had as many bodily excretions in one prog.

(By the way if it just happens to be rain drops or something like that this is probably the most embarrasing post I've ever managed)

General / Dreddcon!! Sheddcon?? Whatson!!??!!

Can someone confirm what is going on as the day is approaching. Are people meeting up, will doing so shatter illusions will Troutman look like his icon, will we have to wear T shirts saying who we are? will scojo turn up? (i would hope so) answers on a postcard to the usual address.

In summary is it worth the loss of 'Brownie Points' clearing the day with the wife.

Help! / AWOL
28 October, 2002, 05:01:49 AM
Following problems with my computer & workload I've not been able to post or spend any quality time on the site for the last few months.

So can anyone fill me in on the last few months as I recall Scojo had just been banned, the 534 club was growing nicely & Col Marbles had updated his Battle site.

(By the way, no I haven't been in a isocube just very busy.)

Suggestions / An idea for the site Wake
07 June, 2002, 05:58:16 AM
On the message index page it shows the number of posts responding to a topic. I would be interested to see the number of people who have looked at a thread. I know this can be done as it appears on other message boards.

Would anyone else be interested or am I just a sad beancounter.

.... carry on writing Future Shocks if he carries on writing them as good as the one in this weeks prog.

Absolutely brilliant, I pretty much choked on my cornflakes.

Well Done, the best FS in a long time, I think Alan Moore would have been proud of this one.

An outstanding strip in an outstanding prog.

General / This Weeks Prog
02 May, 2002, 03:24:07 PM
Woo Hooo it's on the doormat, had a quick flick through it and it really looks like the best prog in a long long time.

The artwork throughout looks the business, if the scripts are half as good we are in for a major treat

Roll on tonight when I can read it.

General / Some Bastard Wrote My Car Off
01 May, 2002, 04:42:51 AM
I only mention it because I only bought the car 6 days ago and for the first time in my 35 years I bought a nice car rather than an old banger and it's only taken me 6 days to end up with a ?14,600 pile on jarred metal.

Life is grand.

I remember when my only real worry in life was wondering where this weeks prog is. Ho humm and lardy dah!

General / Rick Bloody Random & The History of 2000AD
28 April, 2002, 03:36:41 AM
Young Rick was my choice on pvs's recent 'crown court' on old 2000ad characters and I'm pleased that nobody owned up to liking it.

It got a mention in David Bishop's excellent history of the prog in the new Meg and and the lines 'For the second summer special, a turgid 1950's strip called Rick Random was resurrected. Somebody thought it so good, they commissioned a new Rick Random series for 2000ad, which began in prog 113. Curiously, no-one admits responsibility for this (mercifully brief) series.'

Let me tell you if they did I'd bloody well hunt them down.

Seriously this series on the history of 2000ad is brilliant. There must be scope for a separate expanded version at say ?9.99 (or more) with, perhaps the full mock up of the first prog, unused covers etc etc. I'd even like to hear some input from the people running IPC at the time who so clearly did not understand the gem of a product they were publishing.

Additional interviews with the artists as well as the writers would also be very interesting.

General / Support Your Local Comics Publisher
28 April, 2002, 03:06:10 AM
On an earlier post I got a bit stressed out about the lack opportunities Rebellion were making re their subscribers. It was good to receive some correspondence this time around even if it was an apology for the recent delays.

But a pat on the back to Rebellion for the special offer on Glimmer Rats & Rain Dogs to subscribers. In my earlier post I suggested a bigger discount and I'll stick to that, I think 25% is a reasonable discount assuming the customer pays the postage as I'd guess WH Smiths make a 35% margin on the prog. That is still an extra 10% to Rebellion by selling direct.

If anyone at Rebellion is reading this stick with this concept of special deals to subscibers although 10% is on the mean side of things. 2000AD has a very loyal readership and I, for one would rather profits went to you guys rather than WH Smiths.

So, I'm gonna order these books to show my support, I don't think I would have bought them otherwise, and Rebellion, keep the special offers coming through, you know it makes sense.

And to all you non subscribers, subscribe now, it's cheaper than buying at the newsagent and the right people make the money. There are occasional delays but its worthing sticking with it.

Finally, Rebellion lets see the 'Gold' Subscription service, as I've said before I'd happily pay more money to receive the prog on a Saturday morning than a Monday morning. (Even more than the extra postage if there were more special offers thrown in)

General / The Great Scojo Mystery
24 April, 2002, 03:25:32 AM
I'm confused, normally when Scojo departs for pastures new there is a build up to it and a reason for his departure, this time nothing so I think we should try and guess at what is going on.

My theory is that he has gone on holiday for a couple of weeks. Knowing that there will be the usual anticipation from the rest of us that he will post in a day or so he can be away for a couple of weeks and have us all 'stewing in our juices' as to why he left, and then return in a blaze of glory in a fortnight.

Also I've got this idea for a poll

In your opinion will Scojo be back in

O One to two days
O Three to four days
O five to seven days
O one week to two weeks
O two weeks to a month
O never

Oh well roll on the next prog so we've got something to talk about.

General / The Budget (no not really)
18 April, 2002, 03:43:28 AM
Sorry I'm getting carried away. After my enthralling 'Tax Returns' thread (no. 1122) I just couldn't help myself.

Join me next week for thread 1178 'PAYE & VAT for Earthlets.'

Hold on, my prog has finally arrived I can at last replenish my thrill levels and cast aside these accountancy traits that kick in whenever my thrill levels deplete and reality kicks in.

So subscriptions department if you don't want the website clogged up with tax & VAT postings why not make sure my prog is on my doormat before it is on display in WH Smiths.

Yes yes yes I know, tedious subject. The 2002 model is dropping on doormats now. If any regular posters on this site have to do a return and would like some help or advice free of charge e mail me on dean@stancotts.freeserve.co.uk & I'll help if I can, although major problems probably cannot be done by e mail I'll help if I can.

Ok I know it's not a very exciting title but what does everyone think of having both of these in one prog.

Personally I can just about live with one or another, but should both appear at the same time? I don't think so. I think it makes the prog too bitty and for some reason subconsciously I see both strips as fillers.

Since returning to the fold I have very much enjoyed reading whole story arcs in one go. Certainly Shakara & Storming Heavens worked better when read in one go. The existence of two 'one off' stories breaks this up.

Also I'm enjoying Atavar more with every episode but the swearing in this weeks prog is pointless when 'shit' is used in the middle of long sentence and two frames later covered (presumably) in lumps of brain the best we can come up with is 'oh God! Jesus!

I'd have preferred no swearing throughout and then some major 'fuck off' expletives when this happened, then the swearing would have had some effect on me the reader.

I understand from thread 718 that Belardinelli is sadly no longer with us. I think in this weeks prog there is a reference to this following a letter re Ace Garp.
I've been away from the prog for about 10 years and wondered if anyone knew of other 2000ad creators who have passed on so I don't make the mistake of demanding they bring back 'so and so' with the original team working on it.
With the reference in the prog was this a recent event?

Apart from 2000AD & the Meg what is everybody else reading at the moment and what any recommendations as I'm only reading Rebellion output at the moment
