Mine're all pretty old school,

Shako
Ace Trucking
Mean Arena (The story that introduced me to that staple of all half decent future sports, the Helium filled Steel ball:) )
Strontium Dog (Singular, not plural.)
Zenith
The VC's

Aaaaand

Droid life.

(Now I come to write the list, it does seem quite long)

Sometimes I feel like I'm only reading the Prog out of force of habit...

Didn't happen for me, your link just sent me straight to the page for tomorrow's ep.

Even going back from there to the main page, then forward again, nothing.

Yeah, no, uurm, it's just that I really can't stand the work of John Smith, IMO he hit his peak early with Killing Time (Which I *do* think is one of the best comicas I've ever read...) and it's been downhill ever since.

At the end of the day, I'm just jealous really, cause, he's a bad writer who continually gets commisioned to contribute new stuff to 2th and the Meg. I'm a bad writer too, and what have I got to show for it?

But seriously, getting back to this thread's comedy roots, 'The mind of Oscar Wilde in the body of Arnold Schwartzenegger'?

Maybe in the early Sean Phillips dadys, but if the last few series are anything to go by, he's let himself go a bit.

Perhaps he should spend less time propping up the mantelpeice, eyeing up the houseboy, and get his ass down t'gym? :)

General / Devlin Waugh: Lapsed Catholic? :)
21 April, 2006, 08:03:26 PM

I mean, considering He?s a Papal Envoy and all? :)

I don?t believe I?ve ever seen him giving a confession or taking communion :)

(Just to put this whole rant into context, let me just explain, I'm completely at ease, comfortable and secure in my secularity. I have plenty of friends of a variety of faiths, Cristians, Satanists, Muslims, Buddhists, Wiccans, Spiritualists, I even worked with a practising Rastafarian for a while (Although he seemed to me to?ve got it down :) ), and on the occasions when I've been propositioned by Jehovah?s Witnesses I've taken it with good grace and a little confusion. I do have a bit of a problem with organised religion, but that's purely a dogmatic acceptance of dubious fact issue...  :)

See Devlin Waugh annoys me, in general 'cause it's written by John Smith, and in particular because of his conspicuous and unconvincing Catholicism :), as I said I know religious people, but I don't know any religious people like that. :)

Bizarrely, I do know one or two extremely dogmatic secular people. :)

It just feels so unnecessary, the story's already high concept enough, Vampiric exorsist in the future with added 'I took acid once' metaphysics, there's really no need for Devlin to be Catholic, if you are going to write Catholic people in comics, make it natural, let it come from the character, like Nemesis. (Forget to put a smiley face on this bit and let?s see how many people  take it seriously!)

As I see it, there's only one reason to have such an offensively lapsed catholic stereotype as your central character. It's the New "The Emperor's New Clothes". It doesn't matter how bad your story is, no-one will complain for fear of being labelled religiously intolerant. :)

How about a story focusing on a Vatican Judge? (Ooops, that was kinda done already, and it wasn?t very good :) )

Anyway, Devlin Waugh, Lapsed Catholic, discuss?

Not really, it?s a bit of fun :)

How bored am I?

Whoops, I should refresh this page before posting, I was of course ignoring jamesm.

Although it could be seen as insulting to john Smith that one of his two readable tales hasn't been reprinted as often as I imagine...

That's either extremely insulting to Mr Smith, or extremely insulting to me, depending on your point of view, so I won't even dignify it with a response. (Apart from this one :) )

Can't remember the exact page but IIRC it's clearest in part two, he get's killed by the Bio-wire not long after. (Oooops,I'm sorry do we need SPOILER ALERT's if we're discussing the most reprinted story in 2th history?)
