...can't believe we've gotten this far into the thread without some pedant pointing out that the cover line is actually: "The Power & the Gory".

...ah.

IIRC, that would be Magic Press. Sounds good - what did you think of the first of the post-DC collections?

No, it's an all-new cover by Langley, and it does look very nice

Ooh... goss. Where did you see that, then?

Dunno. Alternate versions of covers? "Deleted scenes"?

Like I say, the "he doesn't like to show his methods" is a half-remembered bit of trivia, and it may be entirely incorrect.

It would be fascinating - even for someone who isn't a fan of his work - but ISTR someone saying that Clint Langley doesn't like discussing his working methods.

Perhaps that's incorrect, or perhaps he's changed his mind?

BOUNCE!

Are there copies of Family in stock at the Future Shop?

I like the original logo as well, and was a little miffed to see it had been changed. Still, it's not drastically different - compare the new and old Dante trade logos for an example of how different it could have been.

I think the placeholders are produced by Rebellion, and it does seem to be a common practice among book publishers of all stripes.

Neither of the new trades - Rogue Vol. 3 and Satan's Island - has much in the way of extras. There are a few covers, but nothing else. As always, the main draw is that you get these stories reprinted in full - and with the new books, on nice stock and beautifully presented.

The first image was a placeholder, and the second is the pic used on the final book.

The first is Dylan Teague's cover to prog 1311 and the second is a recoloured Cam Kennedy cover from prog 317. I'm not very fond of the recoloured cover, but it looks better on the book than the pics here suggest - that said, I still would much rather have seen another image used, or a fresh pic commissioned.

No problems with marks/dirt, but their staff have a nasty tendency of wrapping my orders so tightly in shrinkwrap that they bend or crumple books. It's not too bad when I order hardbacks, but some of the softback books come out a bit battered. On the rare occasion that I felt the condition was unacceptable I've requested replacements, and I've also jarred them a couple of times about the poor packaging standards, but so far I've seen no change in procedures.

Well, I don't know about that.

Although they're not always the first online shop to have them available - The Book Depository are still best for that, IMO - they do tend to get them fairly promptly. Their info isn't always particularly accurate, but it is generally a good guide.

I haven't seen Family anywhere - not in my local Borders or Waterstones, or in any online stores - Amazon, Play, The Book Depository. It may be out, but it certainly isn't easily available.

I did note that it's listed in the Future Shop, but I'm not sure whether that means there are actually any books on hand. Perhaps Wake can answer that?

General / Rebellion collection delays?

I know Jon Oliver visits the board, so perhaps he can comment.

A quick browse of Amazon shows that Total War, Nikolai Dante Vol. 3 and The Red Seas Vol. 1 are all listed for publication on December 31 instead of November. Family also appears to have been shunted back to December as well.

Have these books been delayed? Are Amazon's new dates correct?

Thanks in advance.

Nice catch, Logan. Just to hammer home the point, I've knocked up a side by side & overlay of the two images:

I'm pretty sure it's a swipe from a Carlos Ezquerra panel, but I can't quite place it. As with Lichtenstein's work, it takes all the subtlety and interest of the original, runs it through a grinder and leaves a dull, lifeless copy.

Yuk.
