I'm unlikely to be reading "Extraordinary Works..." any time soon - would you be able to give us the basic gist (minus rude bits, of course ;-))

I'm sure cash plays a part in it, but given Moore's history of fighting for his - and other creators - rights, I doubt adequate payment is the whole issue.

Nope - I *really* hate seeing art that was always intended to be in B&W recoloured.

BTW - I always understood that the biggest problem between Alan Moore and Tooth was the issue of creator's rights. Leaving aside whether AM would even be interested in writing for the weekly, has the situation with 2000AD/Rebellion changed enough to make writing for the comic a better prospect than it was when he left?

I really don't know much about the ins-and-outs of the original situation, and I don't know how much light current droids can shed on things without being indiscrete, but I'd certainly be interested in hearing more.

Cover - Just as naff as it looked online. Still, the sub-standard Charlie Adlard cover goes well with the sub-standard Charlie Adlard art on the strip...

Thrills of the Future:

"Breathing Space"? Anyone know what this is about? The Pete Doherty art looks like a return to form, but I'll hold off until I've seen a bit more.

Dredd:

Oh well. I've been very disappointed with how this tale has developed, and the final episode just caps it. It handily dodges all of the corners Wagner had written himself into - how did Mercator survive? He's a DEMON! What happened to Vienna? She was DRUGGED! - with none of the invention or deft touch Wagner usually brings to Dredd. What could have been a fine story just falls apart in the final act, tying up the loose thread of Vienna in a thoroughly dull and unsatisfying way.

Leviathan:

Still the standout thrill in the weekly. The introduction of a second lead gives the series a shot in the arm just as it needed it, and the two characters work well together.
Not much more to say here - I'm looking forward to more from Edgington & D'Israeli in the future.

(BTW - does anyone but me think that the "club" in the bottom-right panel of page 4 looks a little... *suggestive*? ;-))

Sinister Dexter:

Simon Davis' art always make me more generous to Sin/Dex, even when it's covering for a weak strip. Fortunately, this episode is an interesting start to a new adventure and the art nicely complements it - though I'm still unsure why Billi & Tracy are corpse-blue...
Liked the weird cliffhanger - what on earth is that? Floating samurai armour? Very weird. A promising start to what has been one of Tooth's weakest regular strips.

Past Imperfect:

Surely this should have been a Terror Tale? Moderately entertaining little tale, with some able artwork - Leigh Gallagher could be a droid to watch - but ultimately rather disposable. Still, it's far better than most of the tat that usually fills the slot.

Strontium Dog:

Still rolling along nicely, and it's nice to see a bit of action after a couple of weeks of Gnob gags :-) I doubt it's going to be a classic Stront tale, but it's an entertaining, accomplished adventure - and that's what keeps me coming back to 2000AD week in, week out.

Overall, a fairly good prog, let down - surprisingly - by a Wagner-scripted Dredd.

*Very* groovy :-)

Where are you getting the cover images? Previews?

Ugh. That's very reminiscent of the worst of the prog 700-900 Dredd covers. Hopefully 1357 is a step up.

Not interested, I'm afraid (I've got the lot) but good on you for starting price low & not taking the piss with some ridiculous figure.

Good luck!

I saw some of these a while back and they're absolutely stunning- though I can't see them ever having made anything that could have lived up to the designs Kirby turned out.

Beautiful stuff, though.

"The colouring?"

Heh :-)

I did read some suggestions that may have been copyright problems with some of the characters who appeared in #5 (Rupert the Bear et al.)

Does anyone have any idea when the final ish of LOEGII is due out? I've just seen a listing for the collected volume in November, but still no sign of it in Previews.

On the same subject - I thought that we were supposed to be avoiding these problems this time. There were assurances that the writing & art were completed well ahead of time and the delays that plagued Vol 1 were going to be avoided.

What went wrong?

Just as a followup on the above posts:

Last year I picked up a copy of Silent Hill 2 for the PS2. I was living with my brother & his friend at the time, and the game became a regular fixture every evening for the next fortnight, with each of us taking turns to play the game. It's one of the few times that I've ever played a single-player game in this way, and it was one of my more memorable gaming experiences. IMO, adventures particularly lend themselves to this - there's something fun about having several people working at puzzles and trying to figure out what to do next.

...and the shit-your-pants atmosphere of Silent Hill had *absolutely* nothing to do with it, of course ;-)

"Why is it that passively watching a TV, especially costume dramas,is deemed an acceptable way to pass an apres work evening but interacting with a computer game is deemed sad? or is it just a boy/girl thing?"

No idea, to be honest. I wonder whether it's got anything to do with the interactivity and the essentially solitary nature of gameplaying - TV, for all its faults, is a fairly social medium; people gather round, chat through programs, talk about what they're watching...
With the exception of the more multi-player games (and often adventure/puzzle games) this really doesn't happen with gaming - partners/family/friends are kind of excluded from the process.

Dribbles:

Could be. The comments about "dull humoured obsessives" and references to people being too afraid to step out of line sound awfully familiar. Maybe this is the "grand plan" old Richie Clatt was on about? It'd certainly be an improvement on the Chatroom Files...

Anyway, even if it's not, he's had his chance.
