If Amazon live up to their word, I should have mine on Friday.

It's about the same size as three DVD cases stacked. Remarkable, really, though it does explain quite why the system is relatively low-powered - you're not going to be able to stack a lot in that space!

As for internet connectivity, IIRC it should be pretty much the same as with the DS. If you've got broadband & a wireless router, you should be able to turn the system on and instruct it to look for an access point. It should pick up your router and set up a connection and if all's gone well that should be the end of your setup procedure.

BTW - if you like Donkey Konga and Mario Mix, keep an eye out for:

Wii Play - a collection of multiplayer minigames (Laser Hockey, a Duck Hunt-style shooting range, Table Tennis, Billiards, Tank Battle and a few others) that comes with a second remote.

Rayman Raving Rabbids - another minigame collection, but one with a wicked sense of humour. You'll be asked to swing cows on a chain, "pump" a watergun to shoot enemies, pull worms out of rotten teeth & dance off against the lunatic rabbits of the title, along with dozens of other games. You can check out a couple of trailers below to give you a feel for the game.

Just remember, though - if you're buying for the family, make sure you pick up at least one extra remote & nunchuk. The bundled remote with Wii Play is a good deal as you'll get the controller plus a bundle of games for about the same price as a controller alone. Nunchuks are available separately, but they should be relatively cheap.

...because they're going for something unusual and are playing on the "We/Wii" to suggest inclusivity - "Wii Would Like To Play", "Wii Move You" etc.

Doesn't stop the jokes, but I've been quite surprised how quickly even relatively mainstream outlets have moved on from them - the odd name still gets a mention, but just a brief one.

Uh, it's a teaser (in fact, it's the exact same teaser that ran in Japan & has now been replaced with game trailers).

The first batch of full Wii ads have now started appearing in the US, and I'm expecting those - or something similar - to hit here in the next couple of weeks.

Dunno about the "great" bit, but it is indeed (long past!) time for a voting thread. I've got all the pics posted here saved on my comp and I'll get the thread up later tonight. Apologies for the delay, and hopefully it'll give everyone something fun to do after a busy Christmas!

No worries, Simon - glad it arrived safely & I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with this month.

I don't think that would be a problem, as other boarders have done the same in previous comps. Obviously don't start spamming the thread with dozens and dozens of pics, but if you've got a few different ideas you want to get out there go right ahead.

PS. Can i have my prize from last time?

Aye, of course - I emailed you about this just recently. If you didn't get that, just use boardmail to tell me what you're after & I'll tie it up ASAP.

(unless of course it's a years sub to 1993's progs, then you can bugger right off ;)

Fuck! I thought I might finally get shot of them, and now the plan is ruined ;-)

Title says it all, really :-)

The theme for the end-of-year competition will be "Christmas at 2000AD!" What you take from that is very much up to you. Perhaps you'll draw a nice, homely pic of Johnny & Wulf huddled by a campfire, roasting their chestnuts (a-hem!). Or maybe it will be Tharg and his droids at Christmas, enjoying a drop of oil under the Thaxian mistletoe (watch out - it kisses YOU!). How about Christmas in the trenches of Nu Earth?

Feel free to run riot, provided you keep it 2000AD & keep it festive!

The competition will be open until 18 December & voting will run during that week so winners can be announced before Christmas. Hopefully that will give everyone plenty of time to come up with an idea & submit it. I'd love to see this comp be the biggest yet, so I'm hoping more people will contribute this time around.

As it's a slightly special time of year, the prizes will be slightly special as well. Unfortunately, my funds will be tighter in 2007 so this is going to be the last comp I can offer prizes for, but let's go out with a bang:

FIRST PLACE -- A year's subscription to 2000AD, or a prize of the winner's choice up to an equivalent value. If the winner is overseas, I can really only offer the equivalent, as the price of the sub is substantially higher.

SECOND PLACE -- A 2000AD tee-shirt, plus a trade paperback of your choice. If the winner would prefer two books - or two tee-shirts, or a separate prize of equivalent value - that can be arranged.

THIRD PLACE -- A 2000AD tee-shirt or a TPB of the winner's choice.

Hopefully that'll entice a few more people in & offer a little something extra for the winners to enjoy post-Christmas.

Anyway, enough blether - get thinking about what you can draw!

OK - think that's everyone & I think I've got the vote count correct, so the winners are:

1 -- Johnnystress
2 -- Si Penter
3 -- Lord Running Clam

All thoroughly deserved, IMO. Hopefully we'll see you all - and everyone else who contributed - in the Xmas comp. Board-mail me to sort out your prizes.

Cheers, all!

Nick --

The rules for this particular comp were:

-- The two characters must be from series with the same initial letter (Dinosty vs. Durham Red would be fine, but Caballistics vs. Ant Wars would be out), and:

-- The characters must never have fought before

The December comp rules are pretty simple - it must have a festive theme, and it must feature a 2K character.

Hope that helps!

Cosh -

My apologies - I did miss your entry, despite it being in my Photobucket folder for the comp.

What I'd suggest is that I post it here and if anyone wants to revise their vote to include it they simply repost their votes with a "REVISED VOTE" line at the top. Hope that sounds OK!

...and my picks:

1 -- Bolt01 & Rac. How about a "Tales from the Doghouse (Bar)" next, guys? Great stuff.

2 -- Albion83uk. Lovely image, with some really nice colouring and character work.

3 -- Lord Running Clam. Great, hairy, thick-thighed Slaine & scarred Satanus.

Honourable mentions to Si Penter's gorgeous illo & both Buttonman & Thryllseeker's pieces which make me grin every time I see them.

General / November Art Comp - Voting Thread...
15 November, 2006, 10:01:14 PM
OK, entries all seem to be in so it's voting time again.

As always, pick your three favourites from the images below then post them in order from first to third. First gets 5 points, second gets 3 points and third 1 point. The votes will get tallied up and the three entries with the most votes will take the top three places. Voting will be open until next Wednesday with the winners being announced shortly after that.

54 Jones - sorry, but the Zenith & Bonjo piece is out of contention because it breaks the rules set out at the beginning. However, you are still due a prize from the last comp, and while you passed on that last time, I'd be chuffed if you'd take it now for turning out such a nice piece. Hope that sounds reasonable!

As for the December comp, I'm afraid I've gone ahead & picked the theme - hope it meets with the board's approval! I'll start up a fresh thread for that ASAP, and you can look forward to some bumper prizes for Christmas.

Best of luck to all who entered this comp - now get voting!
