It's OK, Logan, he's given you an out there - if you did forget anything, just pretend that it's all part of some masterplan you & John dreamt up ;-)

Heh - sorry for the digression ;-)

Dredd has really got me fascinated at the moment, especially now that Judd has made an appearance. It really does appear that Wagner is going to try and tie up as many of the various threads as possible with this one.

However - and I'm not too hot on Dredd history, so I could be getting mixed up here - isn't Morton Judd supposed to have tried to assassinate Fargo? Wasn't that the crime that led to his near-execution and flight from the city?

What other discrepancies are going to need tidied up now?

Really looking forward to the Battle of Armageddon, though - I hope Wagner & Ezquerra have something really special lined up there...

Dunno. I'm assuming - since the way the SFX are done seems to be fairly consistent from strip to strip - that they are done by the editorial team, so I suspect it's simply a case of time & work pressure. With a whole comic to get ready every week & a relatively small staff, I can see how something like that could just be getting the quick & dirty treatment.

I have to say the labeling on the clone tubes was shocking

Yup. I don't believe it's the letterer or the artist who added those labels - and they're done so ineptly that I'd hope neither Ezquerra or Parkhouse did them. Same goes for most of the SFX - with Nikolai Dante's awful yellow text effects being a particularly garish example.

IMO, SFX are a rather overlooked element of the comic page & it's a shame more care isn't given to them. Check out pages by Jock or Mark Harrison to see how they can be done right - even Dom Reardon's slightly wonky, unconventional SFX work, meshing with the art in a way that the slapped-on ones we see most weeks don't.

Rant over ;-)

Oi! My family's Malaysian, I'll have you know.

(...mind you, last time I was there I stayed in a hotel with male staff who would have made Emma Bunton look butch... ;-) )

Well, D'Israelie blogged about the book in the past day or two & he was saying then that the book had only just shipped from the printers so it will probably be another wee while before it makes it to the shops.

Suggestions / Re: Return of Starscans?
15 November, 2006, 12:15:15 AM
Depends on the story ;-)

I wouldn't mind seeing things like Starscans back in the mix - along with fun stuff like Supercovers, one-page strips & Future Shocks, they're part of what made 2K a favourite. Surely there's room to drop one or two in across the course of a few months, perhaps utilising the rear cover? It's been quite regularly given over to full-spread covers, so it's not like a precedent hasn't been set with regards to sacrificing potential ad revenue...

Even if it was with the help of the only chap in the place who seemed to be over the age of 12 and knew the lyrics.

Heh - was it you?

Prog / Re: Prog 1514 -Mutant Massacre.......

I was wondering - with the reappearance of a character from Dante's (relatively) distant past, is it possible that writers like Robbie Morrison are feeling it's possible to dredge up old characters/events because of the ready availability of these stories in book format?

Mm. It's on a par with John Ridgway's early computer colouring work - not nice at all. I've no doubt that with a bit more work the colourist could turn out some nice work - there are hints of what he could be capable of in there - but here his work has just smothered the line work and it just isn't what I'd consider fit to see print in the comic.

Sorry about the slightly ropey quality, but I hope it's of interest to readers who don't yet have the prog:

I thought the Fortean Times would be able to move to the front of the shelf by itself

Well, that's what everyone thought, but it turns out it was a couple of guys with string & planks of wood moving it during the night...
