You could also set up a MySpace profile and promote your work that way.

It's a horribly designed site and an absolute bloody eyesore, but there are many small-press ventures represented there, and I've been sent several bulletins suggesting that artists are currently in demand.

Perhaps this would be a good way to get your work seen and/or critiqued and possibly find new leads towards publication.

Cheers,

Now - whay did half of my post disappear? I was quoting Cosh, and all of his stuff...vanished. Very odd.  Try again...

*The ones who invade your privacy by bothering you in the street really get on my tits. If somebody phones you up, it's very easy to shout "Fuck off!" or slam the phone down but they get pretty shirty if you do that to them in person.*

Slamming the phone down on a person in the street? That's just...erm...a bit weird.

I suppose you'd have to enquire for the street-vendor's number first, call them ( presumably whilst standing in front of them ), and then do the whole 'slamming the phone down' thing.

That seems a little excessive, and time-consuming, to me. I find that 'no thanks' works reasonably well in most cases.

*I try to look as aggravated as possible and glare at them menacingly as I walk towards them. Unfortunately, this doesn't usually work, so I end up telling them to "Fuck off" anyway, having got myself worked up for no reason.*

I recommend a switch to decaf.

*George Bush walks up the steps of Airforce One to find Dirty Frank mumbling about crusaders before chinning Dubya back down the stairs and doing a little dance.*

Oh, yes please. Now that's a page I'd so like to draw :-D

*It was awfully hard avoiding saying "with the right script he could be the next Frank Miller" - I don't think any of us want to go there!! *

Well thanks, but if that means drawing 'Dirty Frank vs Al Quaeda', I think I'll give it a miss :)

*We loves ya really Simon, don't take it to heart. :)*

And I love you all too. It's obviously a dark and twisted, deeply disturbed kinda love, but that's often the most enjoyable kind imho. :-D

Actually the criticisms are cool, and well-received. Sometimes the feedback is actually pretty useful - during Low Life a few readers commented that my storytelling wasn't as clear as it could be. That's the main reason that I opted for a very simple 'grid' layout on malone - no splash panels or anything of that nature. I found it very interesting to work like that and ( despite my tendency towards dark panels ) I hope that the work is a little easier to follow.

It's going to be more of a challenge to 'pretty-up' my characters, but I'll have to see what I can do. :-D

Cheers,

Oh God - you just really don't realise the long-term consequences of the comments that you post here, do you?

Somebody described my Low Life art as 'draconian'. To this day I still have to suffer the indignity of my girlfriend telling me to 'stop being so fucking draconian' ( and giggling lots ) at every possible opportunity. Coleby of Draconia is a name that I've had to learn to live with.

So now I suppose I'll have to look forward to accusations of 'being horrid'?? Meh. I am horrid, of course, and can offer no defense against such a charge. But still...

'Unrestrained' has interesting possibilities.

I'm absolutely dreading the fallout from the 'knife drawer' observation, although that was/is my favourite critique EVER. I may make it into a t-shirt pmsl. :-D

Cheers all,

"I tried to film the arm wrestles, but it was all black on my camera "

Thank God for that...I was thrashed. I must publicly acknowledge that ( mis-quoting Stan Lee, somewhat ) 'Jock is the strongest one there is!'. My arms are still aching today. Rob Williams, though...pah! Lightweight! :-)

Thanks to everyone who chatted, asked for a sketch and was generally splendid company during the day.

I bought WE3 at the weekend, and read it this morning. Grant Morrison at his awesome best, stunningly cinematic artwork from Frank Quitely - this is the best GN I've read since Sin City.

Apologies Dead Oddboy. You made the same point as me, but I missed your message as I read through the thread. I wasn't trying to upstage you or correct your maths...sorry if it came across that way! :-)

How does Jared reach his 'overall' score?

An average of the ratings given would seem to be the most obvious way, but this, in fact, yeilds a score of 49.166666666666666666666666666667%

Just tryin' to be helpful :-)
