What about the Judge Dredd Mega Special from about 1996? Had a Judge death cover as Meatloaf's Bat out of hell, by Brashill, Missionary Man doing U2's The Joshua Tree, by Si Davis, and many more i can't remember.

I'll probaly get a kicking for this but I don't really like the whole premise of book 1 of Button Man. I just think it's silly that.....

*SPOILER* for those who havent read BM1

he sits there and explains the whole plot to the psychiatrist guy before going - Ha! you were the baddy all along! It's just a bit clumsy, and totally unconvincing. Something similar happens in Fiends of the Eastern Front, as well.
Button Mans 2-3 (and no doubt 4 will) kick arse though. They (film makers) should definately keep Harry British, and keep him as a stone cold psychopath as well. IMO they should just get Wagner to write the screenplay, god knows he's a good enough writer.

You could always make your own. I'm thinking of doing this. If you can't draw you could just use an existing image, and, with a little tinkering on Pshop - and some nice printer paper - bobs your uncle.

I would single out Grant Morrison rather than Moore for lifting ideas from other sources (see The Invisibles, Zenith) , although IMO as long as the influences are diverse, and they are combined in an unconvential and unexpected manner, then i think you can create something unique and interesting. Mark Millar tends to use the same technique, but doesn't do it in as convincing a way.

General / Re: Origins - when does it start?....

I'm guessing that the one thing that's likely is we will actually get to meet Fargo. He's such an important character in dredd continuity, and yet he has only ever, in thirty years worth of dredd, featured in a cameo role. Personally, i think that Fargo will likely be the main character in 'Origins', as when you think about it, he IS Dredd, so Dredd WILL be in it, just not as you'd expect.
So, Fargo - Why was he so great? what exactly did he do? How and in what circumstances did he die?
Remember that going by very early dredd material as a continuity guide will only get you so far. I think it's very likely that Wagner will end up rewriting much of dredd history, to reflect the strip's (now) more mature sensibilities, as he has, to a certain extent with Cal, Apocalypse War etc.
Sorry if i've lost anyone there, was rambling.

Personally, I see the potential for a TV series here - 'Jamie's Squirrel Dinners'. You listening, Channel Four?

'i have heard simon pegg is going to be in Mission impossible 3. not sure if thats true, but read in Q magazine'

You really should have a listen to the interview, it's very funny indeed. Pegg talks about his experiences of making MI:3, Shaun, Spaced, and some nice little tidbits about the forthcoming 'Hot Fuzz', which sounds fantastic (Steve Coogan, Edward Woodward, Bill Bailey - hows that for a cast?). Plus you get to listen to Pegg and Bailey reminisce about their old touring days. Oh, and Pegg states catergorically that he will NOT be appearing in MI:4, perhaps cos he hated the experience, or maybe because his character gets killed off in 3.
Link is at the top of this thread.

'I was quite satisfied with the ending of series 2.'

Yeah, so was i, in a way. It would have been too cheesy for tim and daisy to get together.Although one thing that can't be argued is that there simply aren't enough episodes! It would be really great if they made some more, providing they were up to the high standard they have set. I haven't actually listened to the chain reaction show yet, waiting for my housemate to leave the room, so i don't know exactly what he (pegg) said.

'it's time may have passed'

You could be right there. The whole 'nostalgia/clever clever referencing' genre may now be a relic of the late nineties/millenium, and has since been done to death.

In semi-related comedy/radio 4 news, the complete series of Robert Webb and David Mitchell's radio 4 show 'That Mitchell and Webb Sound' is due for release on cd soon. Haven't heard it, but I have heard it's great, so I'll have to buy it, i reckon.

Film & TV / More Spaced?

Hi there, just listening to last night's edition of 'chain reaction' on the radio 4 site. Apparently he hints that he'd like to do an hour long special of 'Spaced' to bring the show to a satisfying close. Fingers crossed eh? Still well worth a listen - it's Bill Bailey interviewing.
