Quote
Yeah, the beauty of Mayor Ambrose is its utter believability. If you can have an Orang Utan (-sniffle-) as Mayor, why not a secret serial killer? And the fact that he's the most popular and effective mayor in MC-1 history, and has Dredd's respect to boot, just makes it all the better. I love it.
Yeah, and just think what'll happen when he finds out about Vienna.

Suggestions / Re: t-shirt requests
30 August, 2008, 06:28:23 PM
I realise this thread is six years old, but regarding t shirts - I'd only consider t shirts that were retro - e.g. the original 2000ad logo, very early cheesy 2000ad cover (the one with the giant ape etc), no slogans.

Fair enough. I do use the books site a lot, but that little detail had escaped my notice.

£17.99 is a fair bit of cash (and will be harder to justify when they reach Dredd's low point in the early nineties), but I'm sure they'll be available online for substantially less than that when the time comes.

1. I would guess that books 3 and 4 of Button Man are planned, but so far nothing has been announced.

2. Anything between a further 20-40 books would be needed to publish all the Dredd stuf from 2000ad. Generally the Case Files reprint a years worth of material. If they continue into the colour era, then the page count will probably drop.

Books & Comics / Re: Graphic Novels, any good ones?

I bought the first volumes of Y the Last Man, The Losers, Fables, Sandman and The Walking Dead and wasn't impressed with any of them. Y the Last Man in particular got on my nerves, though I would consider giving Fables another go (its supposed to get better as it goes). Maybe try borrowing some graphic novels from a library before buying. I've just borrowed some Doom Patrol, and so far I'm glad I didn't pay any money for it.

I can't imagine Stalag 666 would have been commisioned if it is really as simplistic as it seems. I'm sure there will be a twist coming, give it a chance.

Hi Sandman,

If you have little previous knowledge of Judge Dredd, I would recommend the following graphic novels: Mandroid, The Art of Kenny Who?, The Chief Judge's Man and Satan's Island - they're all a great read and relatively free of continuity and backstory.

After that I'd suggest going on to the Judge Dredd Case Files series. Maybe skip the first few for now as they are a bit dated. After that you should move onto stuff like America, Origins, etc.

With Strontium Dog, I'd seek out the Search/Destroy Agency Files series. For Durham Red, I'd suggest you start with The Scarlet Cantos.

As a cross section of the very best that 2000ad has to offer, I'd also recommend you check out: Button Man: The Killing Game, Nikolai Dante: The Romanov Dynasty, B.A.D. Company, Glimmer Rats, Slaine: The Horned God, The Ballad of Halo Jones, Caballistics Inc: Going Underground, and The Complete Nemesis the Warlock Book 1.

If you're in the U.S. I think you should be able to order the books through Amazon.com.

Garth Ennis and Gary Erksine's new Virgin Comics Dan Dare series is also supposed to be very good.
