Is anyone else thinking we're going through a really weak patch covers-wise (this weeks being an exception). It's probably no coincidence that there's also been so few Dredd covers lately. What is it now - one in the last 2 and a half months!?

Dante was the business this week - Amerika is probably his best series since Tsar Wars. I thought last weeks artwork looked a bit rushed, and I guess it was - but presumably only so Si could spend some extra time on this weeks action-packed episode.

Interesting that the next Dante collection is named  The Beast of Rudinshtein. I would have thought Hellfire would be the 'lead' strip.

So... the Case Files will carry on after the initially-planned 11 books. No huge surprise, but nice to see it confirmed. I think I'm right in saying that Case Files 11 takes us up to the end of the era reprinted in the Complete/Classic Judge Dredd and Case Files 12 moves into the beginning of colour Dredd, so we'll finally find out whats going to happen with that. Exciting stuff.

Film & TV / Re: BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT NO SPOILERS

Back to the violence debate - I watched Burton's Batman again the other night, and in contrast it's almost laughably tame. So I was surprised to see it's rated 15. To be fair you do actually see some blood, and Batman is technically a murderer as he kills the Joker's henchmen left, right and centre, as well as the joker himself - interesting as one of the main themes in The Dark Knight is
Batman's refusal to kill.
Another thing I didn't get in The Dark Knight:
The Joker's aim is to unmask and kill Batman, yes? But when the blackmailer is threatening to reveal Wayne's identity on the chat show, the Joker actively prevents him from doing so. Why? Is it part of his whole anarchy philosophy thing - "there is no plan" etc?

The party scene thing bothered me a little as well, I hope there will be a director's cut DVD for the fans where they can sort this out, as well as giving the quite compressed plot a bit of breathing space. I've heard there is a three hour cut of the film in existence.
QuoteIt's pretty good, but not great. The first story on it- about a group of children comapring stories of how they have encountered Batman, is probably the best.

Reminds me of.....

Film & TV / Re: Watchmen Trailer now...

I think I read somewhere that Tales of the Black Freighter the pirate comic-within-a-comic in Watchmen has been filmed and will be released as a separate feature on DVD when Watchmen hit the cinemas. Then Watchmen will be released on DVD 6 months later, then another 6 months later there will be an ultimate DVD with both films cut together. Mental.

Neuromancer, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive by William Gibson
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
The Stars my Destination by Alfred Bester
The Forever War by Joe Haldeman

Pretty much anything in the Gollanz SF series - they're all really nicely designed books too.
"Also, at first, I did think the Bat-vigilantes were working with Scarecrow, especially the way they seemed to hover around his van and aim at the mob, and since Batman locked them all up together. But then on closer inspection, Scarecrow does attack one of the bats with his fear hairspray , so I think it's safe to say they weren't working together."
Ah yes, right you are.
I thought Two-Face survived the fall, and they locked him up and faked his death. It wasn't really made clear. If so, there's no reason why he couldn't return.
On the subject of the 12A rating - I presume they got it because the violence isn't very graphic - very little actual blood etc, but it would still have shit me right up if I were a kid.

Was looking forward to catching this on iPlayer, but it's not available for some reason.

Is the Channel 4 series SF:UK from a few years back available anywhere, online or otherwise? ISTR they had some good episodes on Dredd, 2000ad, Doctor Who and The Invisibles.

QuoteDoes anyone know if they plan to release Case Files of newer Dredd material, all in colour?

This question comes up a lot. The short answer is that its still to be decided. Search some old threads for more background.

QuoteWhat was the first 2000AD Prog that featured Dredd fully in colour?

I'm pretty sure it was Twister, which ran in progs 588-591. The story was a parody of The Wizard of Oz, and mimicked that films use of colour (starts in Black and White, before turning to colour). I'm quite sure later episodes of Dredd were B&W, though, possibly when Slaine: The Horned God was running. I think 2000ad became full colour as of prog 650.

Some nice definite answers for you there.  ;)

More mild spoilers

So who were all the batman copycats? I got the impression they were in  cahoots with the Scarecrow. Also was wondering if it was the real Scarecrow, wasn't he imprisoned at the end of the last film? Couldn't tell if it was Cillian Murphy, as you only got a glimpse of him.
