Film & TV / Re: BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT NO SPOILERS

Mild Spoilers:

A couple of questions:

Was that real Scarecrow at the beginning, and is he now a vigilante?

What was the deal with the ferries? Why was everyone put on them in the first place? Think I missed something.

I thought it was excellent, for once a summer blockbuster that lives up to the hype. If I was to nit pick, I'd say that it's a little too long for frequent rewatching (there's at least one big explosive set-piece too many), the plot is too dense, and towards the end it all gets a bit contrived.

Quoteno mad rush and big showdown on a moving object to finish things off, just some blokes arguing by a Liverpool dock....

...As for suitability, there isn't really any standout creepy moment, and even the more violent stuff isn't terribly graphic - you'll have seen as bad (often worse) on the likes of Smallville. Two-Face isn't as grusome as you might think from the leaked photos, either.

I'm sorry, but did we see the same film? There is a big race against time at the end (I have no idea what you mean about the Liverpool dock), and the levels of violence and general intensity were quite shocking for a 12A rated film. I certainly wouldn't take an 8 year old to see it.

Picked up Button Man II: The Confession of Harry Exton and Nikolai Dante: Sword of the Tsar after work.

The Button Man book is very nicely designed, but the lettering looks a bit funky - ISTR it was re-lettered for reprinting in the meg a few years ago, maybe this is why. It also features the John Ridgway illustrated cover to prog 913.

The Dante book includes the following stories:
How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You When You Know I've Been a Liar All My Life
Primal Screams
Devil's Deal
Usurper
The Depths
Dragons Island
Sword of the Tsar

Also featured are the covers for progs: 1429, 1434, 1487, 1504, 1516 (which is miscredited as the cover for 1487) as well some cover sketches by Si Fraser, Cliff Robinson and Jim Murray

Looking good. My only nipick would be Rorschach's voice - I'd always imagined it as a really strangulated and schreechy - like Cobra Commanders' or something.

Nice work.

Once again, a thoughtful and sensible selection of releases, and a great mix of old and new. Thank goodness they sorted out that Button Man cover, eh?

Anyone want to buy a Shakara Hardback? ;)

The Edgar Case was just superb. There's been some excellent Dredd serials in the last couple of years, but this is up there with the best. The writing was excellent and I was really impressed by the art team. More like this, please.

Can't wait for Mutant Block - Walker back on Dredd - yay!

Its nostalgia-tastic.

Slaine: The Horned God was also in the shop, but gave it a miss due to lack of money (though I will get it eventually). It has an intriguing looking Horned God Commentary at the back that runs for 5-6 pages which gives annotations of the main strip, but as far as I could see isn't credited, and isn't clear if its new material, or reprinted from somewhere else. The cover is that image Jon was attempting to source on the board a while back.

Cheers. I'll grab a copy after work.

I took the shimmery effect as being the engine of the bike revving. Can we have slightly bigger icon pictures please? They've always been so tiny it's hard to make out what they are. Well done on the new site so far - it looks great.

Nice to see a little dig at that tit George Lamb in damage report. That guy has ruined the weekday schedule of BBC 6Music, once the only radio station for sane people out there. Viz did a good comic strip on him a while back.

How about recap pages for all ongoing storylines? Would really help for stuff like Dredd, Dante, Sinister Dexter etc.

There's an interview with Matt now up on 2000adreview,co.uk about the new Meg. He confirms that the Meg itself will now be free of reprint, though the text articles are staying, and also hints that the following strips will be given the Meg GN treatment:

Dredd: Peter Doherty Collection
Dredd: Colin Wilson Collection

Chopper (Presumably Song of the Surfer)
Canon Fodder (Which will no doubt please a certain someone)

He says that he wants to keep the collections artist oriented, and seems to imply that Lawcon will be backed up with Elson's other Dredd work.

The format of the Meg will now be a 10-page Dredd strip, 2 9-page Dreddworld strips and an 8-page Tank Girl strip, along with the text articles.

Also:

Citi-Def looks wicked, and they're giving Al Ewing a crack at Dredd.
