He clearly shouts "Hey!", not "Carrie!".

You're right about "He's gay", though...

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

In the latest round of drama and misfortune that is my girlfriend's family, her dad has been admitted to hospital with - and I admit I'm a bit hazy on the details here - a nasty case of exploded bollocks.

Apparently he had some sort of cyst or abcess, which was causing him a lot of discomfort when sitting down. He did visit his GP over it, but the GP just prescribed antibiotics without actually examining him. I mean, I wouldn't want to look at his scrotum either, but y'know, that's just something a GP has to put up with occasionally. The antibiotics were too little too late and in the early hours of Sunday morning, his spuds let loose the build up of whatever the hell was in there. I'm told the smell was unearthly.

I know, but I'm getting all this passed from her mum, via her, so any fine detail or actual medical terminology went out the window a couple of iterations ago.

Obviously I'm quite concerned for my girlfriend, as she's still getting over the death of her brother earlier in the year but, on the other hand, a guy I don't like very much and who has made life quite unpleasant for my girlfriend ever since I've known her has just had his knackers burst, so it kind of evens itself out.

Am I a bad person?

How about something along these lines?

*EDIT: Ay yi yi, apologies for the gi-hoo-normerous pic. It looked smaller on its own...

Hi RJ, welcome to the board. By amazing coincidence, it's your turn to be Roger's wife.

If you're looking to re-read the classic stories, your best bet is probably to pick up the "phonebook" trades (Judge Dredd Case Files and Strontium Dog Agency Files respectively). They're big, cheap inexpensive, and collect pretty much everything, in order. Here's some Amazon links to the classic Stront stories, if you want to have a gander. The later stories are also collected, but I'll stick with the first five (classic era, pre-reboot), so as not to bombard you with links.

Strontium Dog:

Strontium Dog: Agency Files Vol 1
Collects the original Starlord strips, along with the first few 2000AD appearances. High points include Journey Into Hell, The Schicklegruber Grab and The Bad Boys Bust

Strontium Dog: Agency Files Vol 2
Portrait of a Mutant gives us the epic tale of Alpha's origin as a Strontium Dog. Brilliant, brilliant stuff. The Killing also comes highly recommended, if only for the classic "Bigger napalm blister blaster".

Strontium Dog: Agency Files Vol 3
Collects The Slavers of Drule, Incident on Mayger Minor, The Ragnarok Job & Rage. Essential Stront tales one and all, but the Ragnarok/Rage arc is arguably the high point for this series - especially that final confrontation.

Strontium Dog: Agency Files Vol 4
The bulk of this collection is taken up by 20-something part epic "Bitch", which introduces Durham Red into the mix. Backed up with Stone Killers and The Rammy.

Strontium Dog: The Final Solution
Controversial stuff. The end of the road for the original run of Strontium Dog, and missing Carlos Ezquerra's stunning visuals in favour of Simon Harrison's bizarre imagery. It does get better once MacNeil's on board. This volume does, however set the stage for what's happening right now in the revived series, so it's probably worth a look just on that basis. Definitely a Marmite book, and I know which side of the fence I come down on.

The Dredd stuff is also available in the same format, although whether you start at Vol 1 and work forward or not is a contentious issue. Although undisputably an important milestone in British comics, the stories reprinted in the first volume have perhaps not stood the test of time as well as what followed. The details of Dredd and his world were still being hammered into shape, and there's a lot of stuff in there that reads as odd or apocryphal in the light of later stories. Certainly, by Volume 2, the Cursed Earth  epic kicks in and it all starts to feel more like the Judge Dredd we all know and love. Again, I've just linked the first five volumes.

Judge Dredd:

Judge Dredd: Case Files Vol 1
Collects the first year or so of Judge Dredd including Robot Wars and the Return of Rico, backed up with a fistful of Walter the Wobot strips.

Judge Dredd: Case Files Vol 2
The Cursed Earth and The Day The Law Died. Essential early Dredd epics.

Judge Dredd: Case Files Vol 3
Nice collection of shorter Dredd stories which really cemented Dredd and his world. Contains, amongst others, Judge Death, Blood of Satanus and Umpty Candy.

Judge Dredd: Case Files Vol 4
Another classic epic in The Judge Child and Chopper's first appearance in Unamerican Graffiti.

Judge Dredd: Case Files Vol 5
Judge Death Lives, Block Mania, The Apocalypse War. You need this book.

Of course, if you prefer, these should also be available from the 2000AD Online Shop

Wow, this is a long post. Hope my web-fu's up to scratch. Maybe I should go and do some work...

Glad it went well, guys - *really* looking forward to seeing more of this. Will there be another teaser, or are we holding out for the finished product now?

Also, you'll be entertained to know, my girlfriend decided she didn't want to go to her cousin's christening after all. At 8:30 on the Sunday morning. Anybody know where I can get a lot of quicklime for a reasonable price?

Big bouncing bunnies with bazookas, mmmmm.

Don't forget the bums, Kerrin! :)

I second pretty much every sentiment here. Great work, BMB!

Help! / Re: Advice wanted

As Peter says, I reckon you'd be best to get someone in to sort it out for you.
It sounds like attempting to fix it yourself has only exacerbated the issue so far.

One small word of advice - don't bother with PC World. Go for a local independant/small business, preferably one recommended by someone you know. PC World will overcharge you for a medicore job, and you want to avoid getting a cowboy.

My bumper pack of thrill-power turned up yesterday. Bec & Kawl, Caballistics Vol 2, Droid Life, Judge Dredd: Henry Flint, Mega City Undercover, Simping Detective and Storming heaven. Oh, and a semi-knackered copy of the Making of Rogue Trooper. Looks like a slightly botched printing, but for a couple of quid, I'm not too bothered.
