I spent an hour in a booth at BBC Scotland's former home in Glasgow, recording stuff for this. Last month, I think. They weren't absolutely sure of the broadcast date at the time.

Loving it - but then I'm from NZ, where rugby union is the national religion. Probably just as well I don't have ITV4, otherwise I'd be getting no damn work done at all.

The Burton/Mackenzie years actually introduced far more new series than previous eras in 2000 AD's history. The early 80s period many call the comic's golden age is notable for the stability of its line-up, with Dredd, Stront and Rogue in nearly every week, accompanied by long runs of other strips. [When was the last time a strip ran for 52 consecutive issues, like Meltdown Man?]

One of the big challenges faces by Burt and Mackenzie was the switch to full colour, as it became impossible for artists to produce an episode a week. You can debate the quality of the new strips they introduced, but it's not fair to accuse that editorial team of failing to try new things.

Dredd's been the backbone of 2000 AD for 30 years, just as Dennis the Menace has been for the Beano, but I'd like to believe other strips have done their bit, such as Nikolai Dante, Sinister Dexter, Caballistics Inc., etc

Good grief. How can you not be enjoying this? Yes, Button Man 4 starts slow, but Button Man always does. And I'm enjoying the art. Not Ranson, but still aces.

Best thing in the prog at the moment, IMHO.

Apparently the sister will have not be disabled, instead becoming a computer hacker sidekick. Erk.

Pushing Daisies is another pilot doing the rounds that'll hit US TV soon. Quirky but cute. More voiceover and flashbacks than you can shake a stick at. Created by Wonderfalls and Heroes bloke.

Chances are most of those series were written in 2006 and one or two may date back to 2005.

If it takes an artist 2-3 weeks to illustrate an episode, it'll take them 4-7 months to complete a 60-page story. Most series don't get run until 70-80% of the art is done, to eliminate problems if an artist falls behind their deadlines.

Obviously, this doesn't apply to lightning fast artists like Charlie Adlard. The man's a machine!

Classifieds / Zenith collection for sale
17 July, 2007, 04:01:13 PM
As part of my ongoing quest to make cash and reclaim the floor of my office, I'm flogging a bunch of comics on eBay. First six issues of Diggle & Jock's Losers, original four-issue 1986 Dark Knight mini-series by Frank Miller, original five-issue 300 mini-series by Miller, a few other bits and bobs [Cerebus Number Zero gold ink logo with Dave Sim sketch inside, that kind of thing].

For 2000 AD readers, the best lot is 79 progs collecting every Grant Morrison & Steve Yeowell episode of Zenith. All four phases [incuding the never reprinted full colour Phase IV], the two interludes between Phases I & II, and zzzenith.com in Prog 2001.

The only Zenith stories missing were in annuals or specials, and didn't feature Yeowell artwork.

Bearing in mind the legal dispute that stymies efforts to reprint Zenith, this is golden opportunity to get all of Zenith in one lot.

Enough hype, here's the URL:

I would do, but membership is by invitation only, so I can't post to the forum. Besides, I hate gits who appear on a forum just to flog their eBay auctions.

[Self-loathing's big in my house.]
