Many thanks chaps!

Although Alex I gotta say I didn't like your work, I loved it!*

How can you not be happy when you open your email and stuff like this is waiting for you?:

(In Best George Takei voice): Oh my!

Hi everyone,

Some of you might remember I already had a thread about my project NSEW, I've started this fresh one though as most of the links/info have changed making the old one redundant, sorry if this is considered semi-necro etc.

Back in late 2014 I put out a call for artists to draw my scripts for a large ongoing comic called NSEW I've been writing for a few years now, I had a REALLY great response from so many of you and had such a great time working with you, I've now got literally over 100 pages towards the first issue! (I'm aiming at making it like an omnibus size, 250-300 pages), I'm in Melbourne, Australia but nearly half of the artists so far from the UK, and even from as far as Canada and Brunei! The joy of the internet means distance means nothing with scanning pages etc and I love having such a broad range and would once again like to put out a call for anyone reading this that is interested in illustrating one of my scripts to get in touch with a few demo pages of your work.

Last time I put out the call I was in the fortunate position to be able to offer a small page rate, and whilst I would really like to still be able to do so, my disposable income has gone, but I can say that I put over $6000 into artists pockets so it was a fun ride while it lasted haha! I can still offer 2 copies each of the issue/s that your work appears in, so you still get a few hundred pages of comic to read, and of course the original art remains yours etc to sell at conventions etc as you wish. I'm not trying to make money, I just wanna make comics. :D

*taken from old thread* Basically, it is an anthology format comic, but everything is taking place in the same universe. The joy of this forum is everyone already knows what I mean by that, long live the anthology! Basic info on pages: Black and white or Black and white with greys (up to you) standard comic book format (I have files etc for anyone unsure) full bleed etc (again, happy to help anyone unsure, nobody is born knowing stuff). Average scripts are 3-15 pages. I'm lining up scripts with the artists I think will have the most fun/do them best on their particulars but if you have a request (no longer than 5 pages etc, let me know and I'll tweak my script hunting for you a bit more) I'm looking for many, many artists, so if you're even mildly keen, take a punt. :D

On the NSEW page I'm currently posting the odd image of the world map, with a different territory highlighted and some info on that particular territory, for a bit of world building to help people get into the mindset of the NSEW universe etc.

I understand I'm not a prominent forum member, but if any of the regulars are willing to vouch that I wont screw anybody around that would be really appreciated! :-D

Cheers and thanks for reading through all that, here is the link:

Hi Michael and inkymonkey,

Status? I've got about 35+ artists working on scripts at the moment, so it's all chugging along nicely. ;)

Time wise, this will be a long term project (like Kranburn) so it should be around for years. So never fear about not being available for volume #1. :)

To all the artists waiting for me to give them a script for NSEW, never fear, I haven't forgotten, I was a busy little bee over the weekend finalizing a bunch! I'll be sending out the first batch later today, if you don't get one and I said you would, never fear (again)! You will be getting one soon. :-D

Many thanks for the endorsement Bolt-01, and sorry for not capitalising your name, I just saw that boo boo.

From what I saw in your links Bubba Zebill I'd already have you down as a yes, but if your style would be drastically different, thanks for mentioning it. I like the character description idea, I'll post it here though so anyone who feels like it is welcome to have a go (not needed though to submit, just for fun). Feel free to PM/post here, whatever people are comfy with.

Standard South-SouthWest filtration shift worker:

Spends most of his/her working life outside and as such has full facemask with filters (ears/hair etc can be uncovered, but eyes/nose/mouth covered)
Hardworking heavy clothing, obviously with many hours use on them, but not a hobo.
Heavy gloves.
Holding an oversized hand tool that also has some form of weapon on it, but is mostly a handtool (versus say an AK-47 that has has a small shifter where the bayonet could be etc)
If there were 10 of these people all working together on a system, they might all look fairly different, but they all have a large identifying shoulder/upper arm armour/pad on their left shoulder/upper arm with 'S-SW 17' on it.
They would almost never be working in direct sunlight and would be surrounded by pipes/tubes/fluids so feel free to go nuts on moody/gritty etc.

Hello everyone,

First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong spot, I did read the rules and I was 50/50 about posting this thread here or in Classifieds, but Classified's appears to be more comic selling whereas this forum is more art related, please don't hit me with the ban hammer, I'm Australian, it's surprising I can read at all.  :P

Long time forum member, seldom poster. Maybe one or two of you might remember my art contributions to Futurequake (Hi dave). My normal workload is an Australian post apocalypse comic Kranburn (40 page issue written/illustrated by me every 3 months) and very slowly chewing my way through another project written by Mark Hobby called Job Dun, The Fat Assassin. Pretty much with those two projects going I have no time to do art on anything else I write (plus a wife, two young Daughters, a 2/5ths scale King Tiger tank I'm building to drive around the neighbourhood (not joking)) and so I'm reaching out for artists on another project that I've been working on in the background for the last 4-5 years.

Basically, it is an anthology format comic, but everything is taking place in the same universe. The joy of this forum is everyone already knows what I mean by that, long live the anthology! The reason I wasn't sure on whether to put this here or in classifieds is because I'm paying $50 (Aus) a page, I know that isn't much but as each issue is planned at about 100 pages, $5000 is as much on an issues interior pages as my wife will let me spend. With the joy of Paypal, global location isn't an issue and I would not need the original pages just hi-rez copies for lettering. I understand that I am a bit of an unknown here so skepticism is natural so I urge you to Google Kranburn or Ben Michael Byrne (add the Michael, there are 2 billion Ben Byrnes) and see I am deep in the game here in Australia, Kranburn so far has 10 40 page issues and a 260+ page trade collecting 1-6. I'm not a fly by night chappie. Payment is when I get the pages, not after sales etc, so even in worse case scenario it never sees print, you would have still been paid. But it is seeing print, because I'm a pig headed 120kg 6'2" bull motherfucker and I said it's being printed, and in my world that is that. :D

Basic info on pages: Black and white or Black and white with greys (up to you) standard comic book format (I have files etc for anyone unsure) full bleed etc (again, happy to help anyone unsure, nobody is born knowing stuff (except boobies = yum!)). I have an album on my Facebook 'page' with a bunch of my concept art on this specific project, have a look and if it looks like a project you might be interested in, send me a PM with a sample of your stuff and we can take it from there. Its a page, not an account so I don't believe you need FB to view it. Average scripts are 3-15 pages. I'm lining up scripts with the artists I think will have the most fun/do them best on their particulars but if you have a request (no longer than 5 pages etc, let me know and I'll tweak my script hunting for you a bit more) I'm looking for dozens of artists, so if you're even mildly keen, take a punt. :D

General / Re: MARCH ART COMP - RISE OF THE ROBOTS

Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, seldom time poster. I have deadlines and family but pah! Can't pass up the chance to draw an ABC Warrior! I've done this while the little one sleeps, hope you enjoy. And now I really have to get back to work...  :)

Sorry Locust pretty much everything that I would've said has already been said.  :P

I'll just do some bullet points as it makes me feel funky! I'll be repeating other people so bear with me!

  • Have a chunk ready for opening night. How many pages is up to you, but I wouldn't open with under...10, if its an ongoing. Enough to give the opening night punters a reason for bookmarking/favouriting you.
  • Don't stress about B&W vs Colour, do what you like, if you start pandering too much to what you think others want instead of enjoying your baby soon enough you'll want to throw it out a window.
  • Minimum extra stuff on the page, I hate waiting for a page to load because there's seemingly 7mb of extra crap above, below and around the page, that stuff is for the homepage, you want to be able to click, click, click your way through the story if your reading multiple pages at once. It totally breaks immersion. That's like the biggest no-no in the world!
  • Work the amount you can, if 3 times a week is going to kill you after a month, don't do it. I'd aim for once a week as a base minimum though
  • Specifically for you, waiting a month between 8 page updates...I'd rather you give me two pages of that a week please. As it's a webcomic, I've (the reader) walked into it already knowing its going to be fragmented so don't stress.

Other people have already said this stuff better than me. :P

You look like you're already heading in the right direction so just do what you're passionate about. If you build it, they will come (via links usually, tee hee)

No worries at all. :D

I just saw over at the Zarjaz/Dogbreath thread you might not be getting all e-mails? Have you been getting mine? I've sent up to Page 4 so far but last response was Page 2.

Just in case, I hadn't thought about it till I saw the other thread. :D

Books & Comics / Re: 100 bullets
19 April, 2011, 01:10:19 AM
I recently grabbed a bunch of comics and whilst at the shop took a chance on one of those 'lucky dip' type baggies, with a handful of issues of different comics within. It had 100 Bullets #43 in it (set in a prison) and on the strength of that issue I'll be collecting it now, start off with the first couple trdes and work on from there. I feel so silly, an Irish mate was singing this comics praises to me back in 2000/2001 and I didn't follow up. Better late than never. :P

Very nice stuff, LOVE the art.

Alex has already answered as well as I can about digital versions, and if all goes well it may be getting physically stocked in London, fingers crossed!

PS: Thank you Alex for the shout out, sent a few people Kranburn way. :D

I don't know about digital copies, but from what the creator has said the issue #1 launch has gone really well so hopefully lots of paths will open for the mag. :D

I'll ask him next time I correspond with him.

Got my copy in the mail today, great stuff!

And this just missed out on being my first back cover by 2 weeks, but great fun to see, I feel all proud and stuff. :D
