Hi everyone,

Some of you might remember I already had a thread about my project NSEW, I've started this fresh one though as most of the links/info have changed making the old one redundant, sorry if this is considered semi-necro etc.

Back in late 2014 I put out a call for artists to draw my scripts for a large ongoing comic called NSEW I've been writing for a few years now, I had a REALLY great response from so many of you and had such a great time working with you, I've now got literally over 100 pages towards the first issue! (I'm aiming at making it like an omnibus size, 250-300 pages), I'm in Melbourne, Australia but nearly half of the artists so far from the UK, and even from as far as Canada and Brunei! The joy of the internet means distance means nothing with scanning pages etc and I love having such a broad range and would once again like to put out a call for anyone reading this that is interested in illustrating one of my scripts to get in touch with a few demo pages of your work.

Last time I put out the call I was in the fortunate position to be able to offer a small page rate, and whilst I would really like to still be able to do so, my disposable income has gone, but I can say that I put over $6000 into artists pockets so it was a fun ride while it lasted haha! I can still offer 2 copies each of the issue/s that your work appears in, so you still get a few hundred pages of comic to read, and of course the original art remains yours etc to sell at conventions etc as you wish. I'm not trying to make money, I just wanna make comics. :D

*taken from old thread* Basically, it is an anthology format comic, but everything is taking place in the same universe. The joy of this forum is everyone already knows what I mean by that, long live the anthology! Basic info on pages: Black and white or Black and white with greys (up to you) standard comic book format (I have files etc for anyone unsure) full bleed etc (again, happy to help anyone unsure, nobody is born knowing stuff). Average scripts are 3-15 pages. I'm lining up scripts with the artists I think will have the most fun/do them best on their particulars but if you have a request (no longer than 5 pages etc, let me know and I'll tweak my script hunting for you a bit more) I'm looking for many, many artists, so if you're even mildly keen, take a punt. :D

On the NSEW page I'm currently posting the odd image of the world map, with a different territory highlighted and some info on that particular territory, for a bit of world building to help people get into the mindset of the NSEW universe etc.

I understand I'm not a prominent forum member, but if any of the regulars are willing to vouch that I wont screw anybody around that would be really appreciated! :-D

Cheers and thanks for reading through all that, here is the link:

Hello everyone,

First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong spot, I did read the rules and I was 50/50 about posting this thread here or in Classifieds, but Classified's appears to be more comic selling whereas this forum is more art related, please don't hit me with the ban hammer, I'm Australian, it's surprising I can read at all.  :P

Long time forum member, seldom poster. Maybe one or two of you might remember my art contributions to Futurequake (Hi dave). My normal workload is an Australian post apocalypse comic Kranburn (40 page issue written/illustrated by me every 3 months) and very slowly chewing my way through another project written by Mark Hobby called Job Dun, The Fat Assassin. Pretty much with those two projects going I have no time to do art on anything else I write (plus a wife, two young Daughters, a 2/5ths scale King Tiger tank I'm building to drive around the neighbourhood (not joking)) and so I'm reaching out for artists on another project that I've been working on in the background for the last 4-5 years.

Basically, it is an anthology format comic, but everything is taking place in the same universe. The joy of this forum is everyone already knows what I mean by that, long live the anthology! The reason I wasn't sure on whether to put this here or in classifieds is because I'm paying $50 (Aus) a page, I know that isn't much but as each issue is planned at about 100 pages, $5000 is as much on an issues interior pages as my wife will let me spend. With the joy of Paypal, global location isn't an issue and I would not need the original pages just hi-rez copies for lettering. I understand that I am a bit of an unknown here so skepticism is natural so I urge you to Google Kranburn or Ben Michael Byrne (add the Michael, there are 2 billion Ben Byrnes) and see I am deep in the game here in Australia, Kranburn so far has 10 40 page issues and a 260+ page trade collecting 1-6. I'm not a fly by night chappie. Payment is when I get the pages, not after sales etc, so even in worse case scenario it never sees print, you would have still been paid. But it is seeing print, because I'm a pig headed 120kg 6'2" bull motherfucker and I said it's being printed, and in my world that is that. :D

Basic info on pages: Black and white or Black and white with greys (up to you) standard comic book format (I have files etc for anyone unsure) full bleed etc (again, happy to help anyone unsure, nobody is born knowing stuff (except boobies = yum!)). I have an album on my Facebook 'page' with a bunch of my concept art on this specific project, have a look and if it looks like a project you might be interested in, send me a PM with a sample of your stuff and we can take it from there. Its a page, not an account so I don't believe you need FB to view it. Average scripts are 3-15 pages. I'm lining up scripts with the artists I think will have the most fun/do them best on their particulars but if you have a request (no longer than 5 pages etc, let me know and I'll tweak my script hunting for you a bit more) I'm looking for dozens of artists, so if you're even mildly keen, take a punt. :D

General / Looking for a Meg story
02 December, 2010, 10:17:47 PM
Help me Obi-one-forumie!

In this Dredd story a Son picks his Father up from prison on his release (the Father was put away for beating his wife to death) and the Son was a boy when the Father went away but is now a hulking brick-shithouse of a young man, the Son acts kinda nice but the Father is very nervous and in the end the son beats the shit out of the Father. Dredd only appears at the very end (iirc) to put the Son away telling him something like "Do the time, get out, and move on"

Its got this panel I'm sure where the Son has the Father on the edge of a balcony and the camera is above looking down and the cityscape below is so well done. One of those artists (I'm sorry I have no idea of your name...for now) where you spend as much time looking at his background architecture as you so the main characters. Really really want to read it again but the thought of going issue by issue through my collection is making me cry. :P

Hi everyone,

This is a 2000AD forum so I figure here is a good place to post some Judge Dredd art, and then to flesh out the post a bit more I've added some other recent stuff, not much in the sequential, as all my sequential work goes into Kranburn so I just like to bust a pose or two every now and then. :D

Hope you like, and feel free to be blunt, its the only way I'll learn.

*hands everyone a leather paddle and gets on all fours*

Books & Comics / B+W: War Drama Comic
06 July, 2010, 01:44:30 AM
Hello everyone. :D

I've been illustrating a war drama webcomic written by Dave Cunning, it went on hiatus, but now its updating again and is about to hit its 90th strip. :D

However, there is a twist to the art on this comic, which was the main reason I was interested in doing it as it would be very different from my usual slow pace: I only get 15 minutes per panel, so I don't have time to think too much, I just have to go with my gut and try to get across what I'm trying to.

Also, Dave doesn't give any panel descriptions etc, what I get is a spreadsheet with the panels per strip (usually 3) and the dialogue/thought bubbles, so all I read is what the readers will read (ugh bad grammar?). So everything is open to interpretation.

It updates every Monday and as of right now there is a 3 month backlog, so it will be here for a while *knock on wood*. :D

Enjoy!

Books & Comics / Kranburn - A Post Apocalypse Comic
05 July, 2010, 01:44:43 AM
(This is a comic, but it's a webcomic, if that means I should put it in the links section, sorry)

Hear ye! Hear ye!

My name is BMB and I wish to shamelessly pimp my weekly updating web comic Kranburn!

It's a post-apocalypse comic chock full of post-apocalypse comic tastiness, brought to you from a man born and raised in the same country as the Mad Max movies so through general cultural osmosis you know its going to be good, as we Antipodeans do like our post-apoc. :D

I'm not going to say anything overboard like readers of 2000AD will like it but I've been reading the Prog every week since the 600's so I'd be lying if I figured I hadn't been influenced by it in some way.

It contains fairly graphic violence and swearing is pretty liberal so I do recommend you don't read it in front of your boss and/or Mum.

The archive already contains 40+ pages so you get a nice big slice of Kranburn pie to whet you appetite on, plus world maps and character bio's.

A picture paints a thousand words so here is a few thousand words worth of imagery, to show you what you'll be getting when you click the link:

Like what you saw? Clicky clicky! (The actual website pages are higher rez PNGs, not the JPEGs you see here).

Help! / Mr Wake sir? Can you give me an avatar please?
22 September, 2006, 07:05:45 PM
I was going to design one, but I couldn't load the older threads with the avatars nessessary specs, so I thought, simple is Ok!

If you don't mind, could you give me a basic avatar like, just a red square? Just something so I can see my posts!

(though if your feeling creative the letters BMB would be nice, but a red square would be plenty!) Thanks!

Books & Comics / STARK REALITY wants your input!
22 September, 2006, 06:58:58 PM
Howdy-do all,

I've been a bit quiet lately while I get my web-comic together. That is, I started a webcomic when I realised it was going to be a long time before I could get anything up in print.

But I'm actually quite happy with the results, as I only have to rely on myself which makes thing a shitload easier, so I invite you all to go and have a look, and feel free to tell me what you think! As I'm unemployed, I'm hoping to do a few pages a week at least, I've already updated with 2 more stories on top of the initial opening 4, bringing the total number of comic pages to 33 so far, plus other goodies, including 'behind the scenes, where I show layouts, pencils etc.

The address is http://www.bmbproductions.com.au

And here is a tease, because I'm a bastard.........no its not a willy on his head :))

General / G'day everyone....err, crikey!
28 April, 2006, 08:45:52 PM
Hi everyone, long time lurker ( I think I've had an account for over a year, maybe a year and a half )

Let me introduce myself,
Ben Byrne,
Aussie ( but pale and non-sporty! )
Reading tooth since the 600's. Actually, my first issue was prog 666 I got in a showbag at my cousins school fete, spooky huh?
Like many, I wandered from the path, but I was forced to by concerned parents ( continued reading my friends at primary school as I had converted him to the tooth side ) started buying them myself again after we seperated to different high-schools.
Mid twenties, married, no kiddies, 2 snake neck turtles that bite alot harder than people realise ( the first time! )
Like drawing
( slowly ) getting an Australian anthology comic together in the vein of my fave comics: tooth, the meg and US heavy metal.
Opps I'm waffling, anyway, hi!
