Books & Comics / Present tense.
16 September, 2015, 05:39:20 PM
I'm no grammar Nazi but i really hate books written in the present tense:

'She moves to the door and opens it.' really grinds my gears for some reason and i cant read novels written that way.
'She moved to the door and opened it.'
I have no idea why this disconcerts me so...but it does.

Also lock the taskbar to the tune of 'lock the casbar' whenever I  perform that task on my PC. Although i think I heard that somewhere so cant claim credit (not that it's much to claim).

Music / Hijacked song lyrics
16 September, 2015, 04:42:34 PM
Inspired by the misheard lyrics thread, this is for songs that you have rewritten the lyrics for your own end.

examples:

whenever my mrs is being sarky i sing to her 'Sarcastic woman' to the tune of Bee Gees - More Than a Woman. also If our dog Penny farts is also sing 'Stink-tastic woman.'

For Easy Lover by mr collins and bailey I have substituted. 'she's a greasy scrubber.' and many variations such as 'he's a grumpy bastard.' 'he's a massive bell end.'

Also whenever i drive past Knutsford services (which is everyday) I sing it to the tune of Nutbush by Ike & Tina T.
I have many more but i suspect i hhave oustayed my welcome.

A song by REM...I always sing 'come and get your bacon now!'

I don't know the song as I'm not a fan.

I learned some phonetic Cantonese when living in Hong Kong for eight months.
I tried and failed at German while studying German history.
now after watching all these drug shows (Breaking bad, narcos etc) the urge to learn Spanish has reared its ugly head again. 'donde estles pollos hermanos?'
the feminine and masculine always does my noggin in.
I'm always struck by the futility of it and tell myself to go and write fiction that nobody reads instead.

QuoteCan I just say that I never understood all of the "Oh, he's so cool!" fuss about Boba Fett.

I really got into it after a few episodes. The pilot was an absolute horror show of clichés and poor decisions. Would like to see a second series.

Film & TV / Re: Current TV Boxset Addiction

Not so much an addiction but an 80s nostalgia trip. bought a load of 80s dvds.

Fall Guy: hasn't. aged well, but some laughs. my Mrs loved Lee majors and his truck but even she agreed it's not that good.

A team. Seasons 1-4 absolute heaven.

magnum PI: surprisingly good.

Chips: some good banter but again not so good.

Film & TV / Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron

Took the Mrs and Mum to see it and actually really enjoyed it.
I must be getting soppy in my old age but
i loved the romance between banner and Nat.
Ultron was excellent and James Spader was his usual brilliant, understated self. reminded me of his US office character.
I'm really hard to please but it was as good as I'd hoped.
i found the original a bit slow, but funnier. Both were a solid 7/10 for me.
Although at the cinema everyone was very upset with a disabled chap who kept grunting with excitement/emotion yet were not concerned with the morons who stuffed their faces noisily for the 2 hours and left their cell phones on. i felt the chaps pain
when quicksilver died. and the hulk turned off the screen.
.
This planet sometimes.
