Off Topic / Re: Share your personal life with ...

Me, well I hate my job. I am an underpaid IT trainer (underpaid because I am not 'qualified' but a damn site better than the suited morons who come to our gaff and drone on for three hours about nothing).

I write a lot but never do anything with it much to my GFs annoyance. I seem to waste my time doing novels based on other peoples characters (sapphire and Steel, Warhammer, Dr who) and then just leave them festering on my hard drive.

I play online games too much (probably to ensure that I remain in my crap job and don?t push myself to do anything constructive...masochist) and have just started WoW.

Getting married in August which I am looking forward to but as a bloke I seem to be having difficulty drumming up the kind of enthusiasm she wishes me to have. I want to get married and want her to be my wife. But I aint jumping up and down screeching' Oh my god! I'm getting married. Yet!'

Well, you did ask.

never been a subscriber...never will.

Going to the newsagent to pick up a prog was something good to do. gave you something to look forward to and got you out of the house.

The post is where bad things come. Bills, threats, electoral leaflets. Sending nice things through the post is just a way of sugar coating a turd. Avoid. Like getting fit women to read the news.

Buying it weekly provides a second hobby. hunting for missed progs due to hangover, being away, poor distribution.

Subscribers kill publications. There. I said it.

PS why has the internet made me unable to use effective and consistent capiltalisation?

Film & TV / Re: NEW Superman Trailer

It's funny...when i was a kid i enjoyed superman films. Now as an old cynic all too well aware of America's 'cult of the hero', ideological warefare and cultural imperialism, I find the idea of a superman film to be reprehensible.

:)

Help! / Re: It's modern, it's unique.........

Go for the genres rather than specific games:

Real time strategy: command and conquer
First Person Shootemup: halflife 1 or 2
Survival horror; Silent hill/resident evil series
RPG: never winter nights
Stealth: metal gear solid series

the big downside is time. if you haven't got the 200 hours to put in for final fantasy X then it isn't going to be worth it. The survival horror game usually have about 8 hours ganme time (12-15 realtime)

blah blah etc etc

Of course you could save yourself the bother and buy a book about yoof gaming and voilence and plagiarise shedloads of it.

Film & TV / Re: Sapphire & Steel
21 March, 2006, 07:27:02 PM
sapphire and steel was an incredible show. Not only for its writing (check out anything written by PJ Hammond especially his episodes of The Bill) but for its stark sense of isolation. The stories happened outside of time almost. The railway station, for example, was one of the best (although I agree is possibly two episodes too long for a modern audience) and its sense of isolation is startling. You're on your own and only these two people can help you and they don't like you or want you there.

Adventure 4 is still the story of choice for attempted converts. Rarely works as pioneering ideas are often rehashed so they will never see it as you do. 'It's a rip of of the X-files!' eh?

Adventure 4 was semi-ripped of in demontage by Justin richards. People were put in paintings.

Credit goes to the actors also ,notably dacvid mccallum, whose icy, alien presence was a master stroke counterbalancing sapphires, deceptively human, portrayal. Stell couldn't care less about humans, and one supposed neither could sapphire. yet sapphire was the one who supposed to smooth things over.

I love S&S. The new audio from Big Finish is ok but david warner is a terrible steel. Harker is superb as Sapphire but it wasn't a terribly demanding performance to imitate. New Steel please.

happy birthday...aren't you a bit old to still be reading comics...:-)

(says the man who's 35, also reads comics and still plays fighting fantasy gamebooks while his wife to be watches eastenders)

I prefer the marvel essentials paper as they are easy to read (physically) and the books fall open at the pages and don't damage the spine. The case files are difficult to read if you are a wierdo like myself who considers spine creasing the great evil of the modern world.
