Seen both The Hunter & The Jungle Book twice over the last month, but still have some issues wit them...

Saw the Avengers - Civil War film more recently the other night. Not that I have been much of big fin of those films, but I felt compelled to see it anyway.

I will have more to say about this later.

Did that musician who calls himself Prince really die?

I read that they drilled into his music vault and found enough of his unreleased work to release a album a year for the next century.

Some medication was found on his person when his corpse was discovered. Not such fan of his work myself, but I can't deny his popularity.

Yeah, I was watching that before. Didn't even want to link it here partly because, I think you can find it if you really want to see it yourselves and partly out of embarrassment.

Read about that on in the article I linked and how it was almost banned.

Not sure how it hold look, but that was just not inspiring or maybe it was on some level I don't understand.

What really impressed about the novels was when somebody on Tolkien Online quoted something from them...something like I am the Dragon reborn.

That really got my interested enough to read more about it on the wiki, but that was quite a while ago now. I really need a refresher.

Shannara Chronicles... the first series of it.....looks like it's being rerun now. About to start again soon.

So sorry about that.....

Gets Optioned

Before I write more than I should, I will state that I've never read these books, but have heard of them when it was made into computer game in pre-internet times and also a table top role playing game. I really hope they don't make the same mistakes in a certain other adaption I've now given up on watching because it just looks like a excuse to party in front of everybody while only most tiny of connections with source material.

I did try to enjoy the Shannara Chronicles.

Remember that discussion we had about the warlocks apparent lack of genitalia & how some of you said it's built into his alien snout. Well, this was going to my them for my work, but tastefully done.

I might submit this idea, but not as part of the competition like last time.

Let's try that without any formatting to mess things up...

As a potential RPG thread could threaten the general boardgame thread - here's a list of what got released to start the dice rolling...

Mongoose - D20, Sláine
Sláine: The Roleplaying Game of Celtic Heroes for d20 (rulebook)
Tir Nan Og (sourcebook)
Horned Lord and Moon Sow: The Invulnerable King (scenario)
Horned Lord and Moon Sow: The Teeth of the Moon Sow (scenario)
Horned Lord and Moon Sow: The Ragnarok Book (scenario)
Horned Lord and Moon Sow: Way of the Horned God (scenario)
The Sessair (sourcebook)
The Fir Domain (sourcebook)
The Falians (sourcebook)
The Finians (sourcebook)
Sláine: The Roleplaying Game of Celtic Heroes for MRQ (rulebook)

If only you knew how hard it was for me to source the Finans source book through the military book store from the nearest city roughly tens years ago now. I had started buying them whilst I was living in caravan park in Sydney. I had brought one of the new Horned God novels that were also just rereleased back then as well. The ones that were printed in two book format. I'm not sure which one, but one of them got soaked after buying that one from either Comic Book Kings or Kings Comics in their CBD. That place new the resturaunt with the three monkeys sculpture on the street corner. I brought core rule book with only eighty bucks spending money left over for food after paying my caravan allowance. At the time I thought I might have waited until I was earning more money, but was very excited to get his book.....

I then began to buy the other remaining books (Before I vacated the caravan park at the eve of News Years day.) in the subsequent fortnights. There were a few more books I still had to get before I stopped buying them all together for the time being. These were all being purchased from Games Paradise on Pitt street. I had to return home up here almost three years later when I tried to resume purchasing the rest of those.

This military bookstore whom I won't name, did comply for a few more of those books, but not the Finans which they stated was out of print & I even asked Mongoose Publishing themselves via their forums. They said the same thing, but I was able to source a copy of the book through Ebay once I had got my debit card set up. It was such a bitch trying to purchase anything online without one. The book was still in it's plastic wrapping like a lot of them were. They were still brand new, not second hand!!!!

I was annoyed by their attempts to stop me from buying this book and made a lot of noise about it here on  the MP website. That Military boost store is now no longer there, but they have another store in Sydney Their staff definitely don't like me, but I'm not really sure why they disappeared otherwise.

The books themselves are just souvenirs to me . I don't think I will ever be playing that game anytime soon. Not any RPG actually, unless it's online MMO, or just a forum game.  Although, the author who isn't Pat Mills had some very interesting theories about Slaine & his world based on what he research and had got from the comics. Back then, I didn't have access to Slaine in his entirety so far & was at a lost for much of it too. I find book knowledge very satisfying enough, but always had a issue with Slaine being from race of Warped-Ones rather than just being human man who possessed a gift from the Earth-Goddess.

Mongoose Publishing then dropped the D20 game when there were plans to write more sourve books concerning the Fortress of Dinas Emyrs, Drunelords, Cythrawl, El-Worlds & everything you wanted to know about Pluke!!!!

Yet they were cancelled. I think whomever was doing this ran out of licence to write about it. Such a shame, as I was otherwise enjoying they're take on it.

Then the Slaine - RuneQuest which used all the Clint Lanely art work in black n white variety. If you weren't lucky enough to win the limited edition book using photo real colours. I might try to source that one. That book was the only one they did for that game that was also dropped.

Then they were going to write a Legends version & brought the core rules for that. They were pocket version. Not sure I like this, and told them that they might like to see if they could get rope the Paladium rules guy into doing this along with Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog (Which had also been as RPGS based on the rules for Traveller!) and then there were plans for Rogue Trooper & Nemesis the Warlock......

It's driving me nuts, but my meagre internet won't completely open Steve Denton's Dancing Warlock.

He's missing his feet.

Anybody interested in starting the Official 2000AD Online R.P.G. Club .....

I would suggest, something light....to start with. I don't think I would be the best choice for Dungeon/Game-Master/Story-Teller either.

Spot-On Tordal! & I was figuring the others were mis-guessing on purpose...

With a budget of only 80 million, I wonder how it might have faired with a twice or three times that amount.

There were some parts that I felt even the use of the camera had failed when they were trying to show man returning from the past while running through the forest being chased by a knight who had just cut slashed at his mid section & he was also shown to be running along some road in the American west. Possibly Nevada, Well, trying to run before almost being hit by a car & then just collapsing when he had fully crossed over to the present day.

They took him to hospital, but could saves him because his because internal organs had ruptured from the miscalculated or misused time-jump.

Then there was bit where the they were all being sent back to the time period. The visual effects used to show them being hammered by radiation or what ever, before being shrunk down (In order to fall out of phase with the current time event !) seems like where they were forced to make do with lack of better effects & then they all appear to be falling to their knees which reminded me of the Wicked-Witch (What was her name?) from Wizard of Oz after having bucket of water poured over her head. In that film. It seemed okay, but in Time-Line. I think it was another reason why it only made not even half of budget spent on the film.

Then the castle they could only afford to use was some Tudor mansion. Nothing really grand about it or maybe I'm wrong & that's how it should be. I was just, though that part in the film when they first see it was a bit meh.

Some of the fighting, how it was choreography seemed more real with revelation of the awkwardness wearing cumbersome armour & carrying heavy weaponry while stalking, or being stalked or riding on horse back. You got to hand to those Knights they must have been super humans to put up with that with that physical stress. I like that way the British or Roman king or commander spun around on his heels slowly & then delivered the hand signal to one of his henchman to stab at thee. One of the people who travelled back time to this day (When the French knights attack & burn the whole place to the ground!)  A French guy, who being mostly a scholar from our time wasn't prepared for this impulsive switch in attitude as he was stabbed right in the guts by a forward lunge of his lackey's longsword. His full weight behind that blow, because they knew he wasn't expecting that.  It might have been because he also a French men or knew their language or that he just wasn't standing in the right place at the right time.  off enough, I found that shocking that you meet somebody for the first time & they just killed you when they've noticed you let down you guard. It's the kind of thing that makes any social situation stressful for me. Yet, this is a in another time in the past & a people get kill each other with more impunity....& this was during a time of war. They're way of saying get hard or go home or to the grave!

Meanwhile.....Billy Connelly is found sleeping soundly in some forgotten barn...out of luck...well at least this one is more on the ball when he recognised his rescuers. No time for slackers here, death is only everywhere, but persistently testing them.

Earlier, on after they got separated & Gerard Butler is wandering around in this dark-age long coat that reminds of my Dri-Aza-Bone except it looks more like it hand made without the help modern machinery. Although one piece of clothing still make him appear not so anchored to the time he had been sent back to. With a physique built for strenuous exercise, athletics, the rugged face, the neck length tasselled hair, all hinted at early Slaine & this is perhaps the closest this actor had got to looking him. His accidental encounter with a young French woman after while finding the only hiding spot near stream alluding to Slaine's many secret entanglements with Niamh. Not that they seemed t have time to do anything but introduce each other.

Then later on he's stalking the castle halls with bow in hand just like he was Lord of Misrule the lord  of Greenwood.....

I'm off to bed now!
