It's fine as a bit of Sci-Fi when it's not remembering it needs to reference WATCHMEN (the clunky superfluous bits) because HBO paid for the license.

Complementary colours, innit.

People reasonably point out that most box/poster art is going to feature the (Caucasian) faces of the stars, and orange is a close approximation to (Californian) flesh.

It's not quite true, though. It's not colour changes but light that is the problem with different skintones. Similar colour adjustments can work for both caucasian and darker skin because most skin tones fall into the midtones of the tonal curve. This is why there's a single skin-tone-line on a Vector scope – all human skin tones fall on that line within a small range. Darker and lighter skin tones are nearly the same hue, the differences are mostly variations in level and saturation.

Studying color theory I was surprised to learn how often blue and orange is used:

Unlike his grumpy mates, Spielberg wants to do a comic film.

As Kevin Smith, promoting the new Jay & Silent Bob joint, points out, Scorsese's made his superhero movie.

Jesse has a more cathartic resolution to his story similar to the way Walt did. This ending makes it more balanced for both characters who are basically co-leads.

Regret posting that Scorsese quote. This board is no place for old men who think everything was better when they were young.

And some of it didn't even exist (Texas City/MC-1 Civil War).

I'm just waiting for Spielberg to take the Netflix ruble.

The idea that Marvel films are not 'cinema' is the issue some have with the sentiment. Cinema's origins are rooted in populist entertainment – films that were very rudimentary and centred around the basic thrill of the illusion but looked down upon by the literati as not being 'art'.

It was later film practitioners and their critics films who elevated it to café society but the basic entertainment aspect of cinema does not go away and it's no less of a theme-park ride than it was when Martin Scorsese was a nipper watching Epics, Westerns and B-movies which, as a practioner and critic himself, he now eulogises.

That seems to have been part of the US marketing. US podcasts are full of millennials describing the film as dangerous, disturbing and how it gave them nightmares. That's not part of the conversation about the film anywhere else.

The director built a career out of playing both ends against the middle. The whole film is designed around it.

Quote
(aside from one horrendous misstep)

I know what you mean, and I'm going to assume that it was an honest mistake on the part of the filmmakers...(?)

It seems more like another attempt at what’s become a hallmark of the film and its marketing campaign: to generate a level of faux controversy to sell it as something it isn’t i.e. ‘dangerous’.

I'm glad Alan Moore & Kevin O'Neill got to do their 'Jimmys'. They should just cancel the franchise now – it's peaked (unofficially).

Danny Boyle (quit because they wouldn't let him kill Bond)

No matter what was made-up by the Sun, I doubt Danny Boyle would want to suffer the social media slings and arrows of going down in history as the man who killed a corporate icon, he's not Rian Johnson.

Rumours that the film's script was the source of the disagreement have been reported, with producers alleged to be unhappy with the decision to focus on contemporary political tensions with Russia and a "modern-day Cold War".

However one industry source told the Telegraph the split was due to a fall out over whether to cast Tomasz Kot as the lead villain. The 41-year-old Polish actor stars in Cold War, a love story set in 1950s Europe, and was described as a "left-field" decision for a Bond enemy.

"Craig has a big say in all the casting decisions. None of the Bond girls have been chosen without his say so," the source said. "For example he chose Eva Green to be the Bond girl when it came to the final four for Casino Royale and that has been the case for all the Bond girls he has worked with."

Brexit is God's way of making the British finally understand what went wrong in Northern Ireland.

If, because of Brexit, Ireland eventually ends up doing a swapsy where it loses northern partition only for Britain to gain its own iteration with Scotland, we'll be able to power the national grid with the sheer power of irony.
