Film & TV / Re: The Shield Series 6

I always thought it'd be kinda creepy having his real daughter play his onscreen daughter. Sure, most of the scenes he has with her are when Mackey's trying to proves he's a good daddy, but sometimes she has to see him be a bad bastard.

Actually, I didn't realise there had already been a thread about this ages ago because I didn't search back far enough, and now I can't delete my message. so now I feel silly, but I still think my point is valid......

Film & TV / LOST: Series 3 finale
20 June, 2007, 10:24:01 AM
I finally got to the end this week (I was a wee bit behind) and DAAAAAAAAAMN, that's what I gotta say. Fantastic ending, especially since I was a bit worried about the start of the third series.

By the by, in the episode where Ben and Locke go to meet Jacob (aka the empty chair), did anyone notice that for a few frames, there is actually someone in the chair? No idea who it is, but there's someone there.....

Games / Re: Manhunt 2 denied UK release......

To be honest I didn't even like the first Manhunt that much, and this had nothing to do with the violence, it was to do with the control system; If I remember correctly, in order to kill someone you had to walk up behind someone, and hold down the button until the power bar charged up into the red to put the bag over their head, or grab their neck and twist it, or something like that? Except that in that time, they could just turn around and shoot you if they noticed you. That just irritated me.

I always loved Crusade, perhaps just for showing all the various different types of judges. But it was also a cool story.

Film & TV / Re: Bat-pod

"Wouldn't a batbike be easier to get around the city on?"

Maybe, but he didn't seem to have much trouble getting around the city in the first film in the tumbler, driving on rooftops and punching straight through walls and highway intersections. And he had the added protection of several layers of armour which he doesn't have on the bike.

"Well a Batpod/bike thing makes more sense than a batmobile which was always a silly idea."

How'd you figure that? In the batmobile he's fully shielded and bulletproof. What happens if someone snipes him on the (kinda silly looking) bat bike? This is the first thing about the new film I haven't liked.

I'm quite liking Defoe so far. The artwork can be a bit hard to make out at times, but I suppose that's the point; It's almost cinematic, lightning-lit, rainswept streets full of zombies. And I love the suggestions that Isaac Newton is somewhere behind the scenes designing all these bizarre weapons (like the Grim Reaper, which gets cooler the more I look at it). The story hasn't quite fallen into place for me yet, but it's got a lot going for it.

On the other hand Detonator X is just dull as hell. Honestly, there's NOTHING HAPPENING. It looked cool at the beginning, now every episode is a scrap between a robot and a big green thing, with the cocky pilot spouting some bog-standard "cocky pilot" dialogue.

And Graysuit is doing nothing for me so far. The dialogue is terrible, especially in this week's episode.

Help! / Re: 2001 film buff question..........
19 June, 2007, 09:49:40 AM
It was in 2010, but I think in the book 2001 Bowman did say it, for whatever that's worth. Perhaps that's where the original argument began?

Personally I think Leviathan would make for a great film. I know it was only a one-off, but I can imagine it being shot in grainy black and white, keeping the feel of the comic perfectly.

Film & TV / Re: The Golden Compass trailer.......
10 October, 2007, 12:18:38 PM
The new trailer's out (but very annoyingly only on Yahoo which never works properly for me; why aren't they releasing new trailers in Quicktime anymore?)

Still it looks amazing. I've only just finished reading Northern Lights, and it looks like they've nailed the look of the book, especially with the individual daemons, and other things like the spy-flies, the armoured bears, etc. I know we saw a lot of that stuff in the first trailer, but it's much more polished now, and we get to see scenes of people actually talking with their daemons, it works quite well.

The only thing that's bugging me is, they've replaced the original voice for Iorek Byrnison (I forget his name, but you can hear his voice in the first trailer) with Ian McKellen. Now, McKellen's a fantastic actor and all, but I just don't think his voice suits a huge "King of the Bears", especially compared to the first guy.

Film & TV / Re: LOST: END OF SEASON 3 EP.........
20 June, 2007, 12:36:44 PM
Yeah, but i'm sure if Jacob does eventually show up he'll look vaguely like that. They wouldn't want to give us any big clues too early by hiring a name actor for ten frames of screen time.

Regarding the whole idea of the Other's obsession with having kids, they've seemed to suggest that that's not their sole goal on the Island. I think it's Richard who says to Locke that Ben is becoming obsessed with the infertility issue, while the rest of them want to move on to the more important issue (that may not be exactly how it happened, but there was a conversation something like that, and it begs the question; what is the more important issue?)

Also, how come Richard hasn't aged a day in 30 years? It can't just be that the Island automatically keeps you young, because Ben has obviously grown older in that time.

As for the people on the boat being the original Dharma Initiative trying to find the Island again? Surely the people who settled the island in the first place would know where it was, despite the weird geographical anomalies, and they could just send people to take it back. I think Naomi's people are some third party we don't know yet.

And did no-one else see Jacob in the chair?!? Tell me I'm not alone here!!!

Film & TV / Re: First look at new Joker?.........
18 June, 2007, 09:39:09 AM
Regarding the Joker's look in the new film, what we're seeing there in the first pic may not be his look throughout the entire film. What I've heard is that whatever happens to him (scarring, acid, whatever) will cause his face to slowly distort throughout the film until it becomes more and more like the full-on psycho grin we're all used to. It's a rumour, but it sounds like a pretty cool idea.....
