News / Worleyworld blog
31 October, 2010, 11:16:45 AM
Wotcha,

Just a quick post to let you guys know that thanks to some expert ear-bending by Neil Roberts and Kev Lev and PJ (cheers, chaps), I've started up a blog.

I'm aiming to include some behind-the-scenes guff about writing, research and wotnot. Strictly nuts'n'bolts, mind. No boring intros. Just straight into HARD pen-pushing action!

For now, however, I'm beefing up some of the sub-sections on current projects, starting with DANDRIDGE: the five-parter by me and Warren Pleece what begins in Prog 1710.

Out November 10, yo!

Pour yourself into this digi-funnel and enjoy: http://alecworley.posterous.com/pages/dandridge

Anyway, I've also started up a Tumblr account through which I intend to fire the issuings of my blog. You can discover it here: http://alec-worley.tumblr.com/

I'm after doing the same with my Twitter account, through which you can also consume irregular truth droppings courtesy of Animal Facts: http://twitter.com/animal_facts

Fanks.

Help! / Wordpress, Posterous or Tumblr...?
19 October, 2010, 10:14:12 AM
Mornin' all,

I'm thinking of starting a blog, but I'm not sure which platform to go with.
I've done a bit of research and everyone seems to use either Wordpress, Posterous, or Tumblr. (Although a lot of people seem to be migrating onto the latter two.)

I need a blog platform that's:
* Reasonably idiotproof
* Easy to manage and edit
* Lets me keep my copyright
* Free
* Can serve as a professional online portfolio, rather than a platform for me to piss about spouting nonsense (which I reserve for Facebook and occasionally Twitter).

Does anyone have any advice regarding the pros and cons of each platform...? I'm assuming starting a blog is as easy as starting, say, a Twitter feed, i.e. you just sign up, give yourself a daft name and away you go.

Thanks in advance

Does anyone know or have any firm idea how many women/little girls/old ladies read 2000 AD and/or the Meg...?

Film & TV / BLACK DYNAMITE trailer
01 July, 2010, 08:06:00 PM
I may have posted this before, but I don't care. I can NOT stop watching this trailer. It's for what appears to be a spot-on sorta-spoof blaxploitation movie and it's out in cinemas soon. Wish I was still reviewing for the Meg as they might have let me in to tomorrow's preview screening. It looks fan-TAS-tic! http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809959827/video/15468225

Like I said, where can I buy the Dredd Case Files 05 for a sensible price...? Is this out of print or what...?

Film & TV / Clash of the Titans
31 March, 2010, 09:05:59 AM
Saw this last night. Utter f***ing shod! Reworks classical myth into some sort of generic fantasy stodge (sub-Robert Jordan and pretty heavily influenced by the God of War games - so I'm told). Completely flavourless; about as Greek as a McDonald's! Less like 300, more like the Mummy movies (although less jokey). Action scenes all frantic muddy CG, not in the least bit involving. Medusa sequence (the best bit in the original) a total washout. Completely nonsensical script; one of those movies that seems to think just because it's fantasy it can get away with any daft contrivance. Sam Worthington is terrible. No reason whatsoever for this to be in 3D. Couple of nice design touches, but really that's it. As awful as the original was, this - somehow - is even worse! Wait for the DVD, if at all!

Film & TV / FOUR LIONS trailer
19 March, 2010, 01:32:12 PM
You may have already seen the 'stockpiling' clip online, but this is the first UK trailer. It's a comedy by Chris (The Day Today; Blue Jam) Morris about four British Jihadists trying to blow up the London Marathon... and the Internet.
Looks superb.

Books & Comics / The Mind of Wolfie Smith
13 January, 2010, 08:06:38 PM
Hi guys,
I'm looking for some info on an old Tornado/2000AD story called THE MIND OF WOLFIE SMITH. Can anyone point me in the direction of some detailed info, or maybe tell me what it was about...?
Also can anyone tell me about a 2000AD story called "13" (not "Vector 13"), I can't recall this one at all.
Cheers in advance  :D

Books & Comics / Werewolves in 2000AD
25 June, 2009, 12:07:44 PM
Morning, all.

I'm currently researching a piece on werewolves in comics. Can anyone tell me if lycanthropes have made a major appearance in 2000AD beyond Dredd's Cry of the Werewolf and Frazer Irving and John Smith's A Love like Blood...? (These were the only two that sprang to mind.)

Cheers in advance

Help! / Starburst R.I.P.
24 March, 2009, 01:07:02 PM
I understand Visual Imagination Ltd, publishers of Starburst, Shivers, Film Review, et al, have finally ceased trading.
I know there's a few pro-writers/film journos lurking on this forum, does anyone know if they've gone into administration or to whom I can send my 18-month-old invoice...?
Cheers

Film & TV / Sam Raimi horror trailer
12 March, 2009, 09:27:48 AM
Here's a trailer for Sam (Evil Dead) Raimi's big return to horror movies: DRAG ME TO HELL //http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810029193/video
Beyond an interesting setup it looks disappointingly standard. And it's only a PG-13.
