Van Dom, why not take your little one to see How to Train Your Dragon. Haven't seen it myself, but I've heard nothing but good things about it...

Here's some more Clash reviews. Screen International, Hollywood Reporter and Variety are usually pretty reliable...

Not sure what everyone else thought. A couple of guys I know from SFX said they didn't like it tho.
No surprises boobies, I'm afraid. Although, Gemma Arterton is gorgeousness on a stick!

Saw this last night. Utter f***ing shod! Reworks classical myth into some sort of generic fantasy stodge (sub-Robert Jordan and pretty heavily influenced by the God of War games - so I'm told). Completely flavourless; about as Greek as a McDonald's! Less like 300, more like the Mummy movies (although less jokey). Action scenes all frantic muddy CG, not in the least bit involving. Medusa sequence (the best bit in the original) a total washout. Completely nonsensical script; one of those movies that seems to think just because it's fantasy it can get away with any daft contrivance. Sam Worthington is terrible. No reason whatsoever for this to be in 3D. Couple of nice design touches, but really that's it. As awful as the original was, this - somehow - is even worse! Wait for the DVD, if at all!

Announcements / Re: RIP John Hicklenton

John Hicklenton let me interview him for the Megazine a while back to promote the award-winning documentary 'Here's Johnny'. During the couple of hours we chatted over the phone he struck me as fearsome, pragmatic and entirely generous.
He was also a wildly talented artist.
My deepest sympathy to his friends and family.

As an ex-film reviewer for the Meg, I feel I have to stick up for the film reviews column currently written by Andrew Osmond. I don't think we can underestimate (for better or worse) just how much movies are becoming a part of comics culture (the newly launched Comic Heroes magazine certainly doesn't disagree). For this reason at least, I believe the film column definitely warrants a place in the Meg! I believe Andrew offers – as does every journalist writing for the Megazine – a contribution every bit as valuable as those made by the comic writers and artists.
What's that you say? You can find this sort of information elsewhere? Well, that's great news because the film column doesn't offer information; it offers OPINION. Unique, difficult, challenging, well-informed OPINION, which actually engages the brain, and which a lot of movie magazines don't like as it doesn't agree often enough with the studio's PR department, who in many cases are a bunch of [***THE FOLLOWING TWELVE-PARAGRAPH RANT ABOUT THE STATE OF MAINSTREAM FILM JOURNALISM BY AN EMBITTERED FREELANCER HAS BEEN CENSORED. BY THE WAY, DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THE TIME I HEARD CENSORED THREATEN A DISTRIBUTOR WITH A BAD REVIEW JUST BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ANY CATERING BEFORE THE SCREENING...? S'TRUE.***]
We as geeks thrive on opinion, it's what drives us to blogs and forums like these where we can clash with opposing views, challenge our own conceptions of the genre we love and enrich our understanding of it.
If you don't like the reviews, then for Christ's sake skip them! There's plenty more of interest to read in the Meg if film isn't your bag. For me, however, Andrew's film column remains a valuable, unbiased and knowledgeable voice in the increasingly movie-centric world of comics.

Knowing Morris, this movie's probably going to be a lot more off-the-wall than the trailer makes out. Check out NATHAN BARLEY as well, dweezil2, which Morris co-wrote with Charlie Brooker. Deeply odd.

Film & TV / FOUR LIONS trailer

You may have already seen the 'stockpiling' clip online, but this is the first UK trailer. It's a comedy by Chris (The Day Today; Blue Jam) Morris about four British Jihadists trying to blow up the London Marathon... and the Internet.
Looks superb.

Dear Messrs Flint and Meanie,
I would like to make it clear that I was watching the popular adolescent vampire film Twilight purely for research purposes.
