Off Topic / Re: I don't understand the appeal of...

I'd rather just deal with/admire people who've NEVER been violent.
#2732
Idiots who phone you and ask "is Jill there?" (or other person they've failed to get through to) and you say no.  And they either disbelieve you or just hang up.  So bloody rude.

I delight in phoning them back, pointing out they've just hung up on me and guilt-trip them into apologising.  Huge fun.

Very well done, I'm impressed.  Although Jimbo's right, it does look a bit more Demarco that Anderson....

And Cheryl Cole was still found guilty of the assault bit, just not the racism bit.  Which means she's NOT a racist.  But IS a violent scumbag.  Not THAT much better, is it?

That IS a watershed, isn't it?

Anyway.  My previous post suggests I didn't enjoy the previous parts, which is far from the case.  It's just not QUITE what I think of as Dredd yet.

Yeah, I must say I was tempted by that too.  But I'll resist.....

Books & Comics / Re: Patt Mills - Robert E. Howard fan?
15 November, 2009, 04:30:01 PM
I'm certain Mills is aware of Howard's work, he's not the type to fail to research his characters and worlds and that would include reading works with similar settings and ideas....

Similar influences would be my guess.  But I'm sure there's a degree of homage there too.

To be honest, it's not until the Apocalypse War started in the Case Files that I found myself enjoying them (one or two exceptions aside).  Very early Dredd is, for me at least, a much less interesting beast than what it would later become.

There.  I've said it.

Thanks for the positive comments folks, wasn't sure how it'd go down.  Insert innuendo here.  *wink*

I treated the whole thing as a learning exercise in illustrator and photoshop (mostly coloured in Illustrator) as I learn best by making mistakes, there was a lot of redoing of various things.  Think I've made MOST of my major mistakes on that one, so all I can see is the bits that don't work so well (but because I'd like a vote or two, I'm not telling you what they are).

Apologies to whatever script droid first wrote that rather cruel but accurate piss-take of the Smith droid's purpleness, but in the early days at least, it was disturbingly accurate and very funny.

Prog / Re: Prog 1661 - Download's Darkest Hour
15 November, 2009, 03:37:49 PM
No, I think that's it actually.  I like it for the most part is what I'm saying, but the major flaws make me almost scream thinking what MIGHT have been.  The version of the story it COULD have been in my head being only SLIGHTLY different but feels better.

That's what I meant.

I'm with Tim Bisley when it comes to Babylon 5 I'm afraid.

Not a Smith fan (although I did enjoy Cinnabar (that and Cradlegrave are the only things he's done I've enjoyed).  And Moore's work on the character isn't exactly up to his usual standard (although i like the Ro-Busters thing he did).

RENNIE YOU OAF!  Poor GFD.

Great name though.

There have been some nasty recent spam threads though.  Nasty.... images.  Any danger of blocking folks who've not posted yet from including images/code in their first post?
