Marshal Law vs Zenith.

I like Zenith, don't get me wrong - but part of the character's appeal for me is that he's so "punchable" and it would still be nice to see.  Plus I doubt the Marshal would have quite as easy a time as he might expect, maybe get taken down a peg or two before firing a hotline into Robert's cowardly backside.

Quote from: "His Lordship rac"... this time! I've an eye on you, young man... just don't stray into that barroom brawl is all I'm saying..!
I'm clearly losing my mind due to the heat.  I mis-read that as "bathroom brawl" - can you imagine the images that assaulted my tender, innocent mind?

If you can't then I'd be happy to discuss them.  At great length (oo-er).

Krod Mandoon?

I'm obviously not watching enough telly (and I'm sorry).  What?  Where?  When?  Who?

Quote from: "mikegloady"The more recent Dante GNs are on my pile awaiting re-reading so my memory might not be up to much (indeed it's not that great on recently acquired information).

However I seem to remember that it was in fact [spoiler:39qqbv7p]Viktor Romanov and he's more of a were....eagle.[/spoiler:39qqbv7p]

No, not him. I seem to remember [spoiler:39qqbv7p]a beast that Dante actually killed (Viktor is still alive.)[/spoiler:39qqbv7p] ) I'll have a look in my back progs... (I tend not to be inclined towards the GN if I've already got the story in comic form, but times like this I can see the benefit. :) )

Yeah, that's right.  [spoiler:39qqbv7p]Viktor is indeed still alive and that makes me glad.  The chap who needed killing was something like a werewolf priest wasn't it?[/spoiler:39qqbv7p]  Must hurry with the re-reading.  It's not long until the next one, at which point I'll be all caught up again after my brief unfaithfulness to Tharg.

Any other werewolves?

Quote from: "King Trout".... if Wagner was to give up writing Dredd, I would happily keep reading the work of Rennie, Ewing, Edgington and the others.
Yeah, me too.  We've been lucky to have him for so long and he, like Joe, isn't getting ny younger.  One day John will retire (or, just as likely, decide he hasn't got anything else to say about Dredd), and when that day comes it's up to us, the loyal Squaxx, to make future long-term writers feel welcome and slightly less petrified.  Let us tip our hats to them all now.

Happily, a few noteable exceptions aside, most non-Wagner Dredd recently has been on excellent form.

Quote from: "bluemeanie"If anyone from 2000AD is reading this, I get a quid for everyone who buys a copy as a result of this thread, right? Right?
Hello?

bugger.
I missed this first time round but it looks gorgeous and sounds right up my street - something my neice can read from the prog for a change.  Everyone on the boards seems to really rate it so I'll be investing soon.

I might even buy you a drink blue - or should I call you meanie?

Smileys are normally, to my mind at least, overly used.

If I had a smiley THARG though, good grief, how could I NOT use it?

No problem mate, hope someone can help.

Quote from: "Dark Jimbo"Personally, I'd rather not, as my only exposure to classic Dredd centrespreads is via the reprint trades, where it becomes an unholy nightmare trying to see what's happening near the spine.
That's not my only experience of them, but these days, with the increased likelihood of a good storyline being collected, it's just not that practical (unless there's a good reason for the spread pages obviously).

Of course, these days the artists and letterers will be aware of these problems and so probably take steps to avoid too many vital panels or balloons breaking over the pages?  Or am I just being foolishly over-optimistic?

Quote from: "SpookyTheCat"Right. I have the old DC-released trade of The Meknificent Seven. I have heard that it's missing a page- is that right, or am I gettng that arse-over-tit and it's the new Rebellion one that's faulty? Also, on looking through the Rebellion one, it appears to have an "Epilogue" that "was originally published in the Titan edition". Whaaaat!?!?!? Are there any more of these 2000ad strips that first appeared in Titan collections?

Also, if the new Rebellion trade IS faulty, have they been corrected? In other words, is the one that appeared on the shelf in Waterstones on Thursday likely to be okay?

And on the subject of page fuck-ups, I have all three Slaine: BoIs and I know one of them is a mental clusterfuck of pages arranged in no particular order... but can you remember which one it is, since finding out would involve a reread, and I'm not incined to do so at the moment. And and and- when buying a replacement on eBay or wherever, is there a quick way of checking that the new one is okay? Does it have a "second printing" stamp, or a "this one is actually readable" sticker or somesuch?

Lots of questions, possibly spurred on by the intense heat. My apple-ogeys.

Steev

Appley bogies accepted Steev.  I have hives thanks to the heat - Irish skin was never meant to be exposed to temperatures above freezing.
There's a three page prologue AND a three page epilogue that bookend the new Rebellion trade and they did indeed see print originally in the Titan edition.  They simply ease you into the story and make it clear that Hammerstein is at Ro-Busters with Ro-Jaws and remembering his old war experiences.  Quartz also makes an appearance (and a suitably odious little sneck-wit he is too, even in such a brief cameo).

I presume they were commissioned to ease readers who perhaps wasn't familiar with the Ro-Busters stuff into the narrative.  Also, without the epilogue, the story does rather seem to stop dead.

I'm not sure which versions appear to be faulty, I read my new Rebellion copy eagerly in one sitting and, to the best of my recollection, it didn't seem to be missing anything but I may be wrong (it HAS been known).

I know that's not answering all your questions, but I hope it helps.  My copies of BoI seemed fine, but maybe that's my defective brain again....

Quote from: "Shaky Caned"That musical idea is just bizarre anyway. I'm a pretty big Spidey fan on the quiet (mainly of the classic Stan Lee stuff), and I don't have even the slightest interest in a musical based on Webhead's adventures. U2 are involved somehow too, I think, which isn't exactly sweetening the deal...
Hmmm.

I like a bit of Spidey.  I like a bit of U2 now and then.  I still think this concept is the worst idea imaginable (but then again I loathe musicals on principal).  Although, if the powers that be ARE set on it, what kind of lyrics can we come up with?

Suggestions / Re: A lovely book of covers?
29 June, 2009, 11:19:14 AM
Quote from: "steven lenfant terrible"No No No.

The cover should be a brand new Rian Hughes of Green Bonce looking the reader in the eye & winking saucily, with the speech bubble encapsulated title of, "Come Inside & See Tharg's Etchings."
Mmmmmm.

I like this idea.  Naughty Tharg!

Is there a poll where we can vote on what the options in a subsequent poll ought to be?
