Help! / Re: Constantine/Hellbazer

If you liked the movie, you're in trouble.  It's fuck all like the comic.  The comic's GOOD for a start.  Although I'll grant you, if you'd no idea what they were based on it might just be possible to enjoy that flick without hurling yourself out a window.

There are a few things it's based on, but only in the vaguest manner imaginable.  There was a collection of some random issues released at the same time as the movie but it's out of print and had, I seem to recall, almost notihing to do with the stuff the plot elements in the film came from.

Can't remember a thing right now and am very sleepy, but felt you needed warning.

EDIT: Beaten to the punch.

Dangerous Habits is surely the core of it, but there's more to it than that.  There's loads of stuff in the film made up from whole cloth that bear NO resemblance to the character in the comic.

I'm sold.  Admittedly I'm out of my mind on painkillers and clutching my nethers in dull agony so my critical facilities aren't the best right now.  But yeah, that sounds like you've nailed it.

He's the Simon Cowell of this contest.....  I was using "Simon Cowell" as a euphemism for announcing, probably to everyone's endless boredom, that I don't get on with Millar's work.  Which is fine, it works for others and I would always try to avoid giving a creator shit, particularly seeing as I'm unlikely to be called to account for it if I did.

He's doing well, even if it's not my thing, good luck to him.

Both fine ideas, Emp.

A PDF of Twothage for FCBD wouldn't cost that much, it'd act as a taster for the current progs/megs and the trade line.  If any of it appeals to your average punter, surely they'd be more likely to track down the stuff.  Are there any obvious hole in this concept I'm missing?

As for the small-press compilation, I can't see ANY problems with this.  Apart from, as with the Twothage Sampler, how would the average Yank punter come across it?  Or non-Yank for that matter...

Grrrr, that Mark Millar, writing his comics that don't appeal to everyone but someone presumably likes.  How dare he make money in a creative industry over a long time and not be me!  BAH!

How's that?

Slap yourself in the cheek for me, CF?  Ta.

Dante, as so often recently, was first read and then re-read before I started anything else.  Cracking, cracking stuff.  As so often.

I AM, for a change, starting to tire of these interludes to some degree, mostly because of the wild west elements which are a little hackneyed to my eyes.  I read to two parts in one go and it DID work better together though.  Given the nasty things going on in your life, Jon, I am astonished you managed to turn in such an accomplished job.  I'm hopeful Tharg'll give you another shot soon to remind us of what you can do at your best.

ABCs are fun, but we all know it only really works (as with so much of Pat's recent stuff) as a collection or read in one go.  Can't imagine how all this is going to tie up, but I reckon Blackblood will never rejoin the squad.  Hopefully he'll live to be a thorn in their side for a while before a suitably nasty end.  I am hoping for the redemption of Mek-Quake though.  He's a simpleton and very suseptable to Volkhan's psychic powers/hypnotism/whatever.  Given Pat's mentioned that Mekkers is his own favourite I am hoping that this means he'll be around and given meaty, fun things to do for some time yet.

Don't tend to bother with Future Shocks until later in the week, personally.

I can't get enough of Stickleback.  Second only to Dante in my opinion among the current thrill line-up.

As for the cover, it's eye-catching and a genuine "WHAT THE FUNT?!?" image.  Reckon it's done it's job.  Although I agree the colouring is a little hard on the eyes.  Almost gave me a migraine.  Maybe THAT'S part of Tharg's evil plan......

I guess if someone's got talent, you'd be stupid not to take any opportunity to get your stuff seen.  Good luck to anyone who's giving it a go.

I didn't even badmouth Simon Cowell.

V necks are the bane of my life.  You see something that looks fun, sounds nice when someone else is playing it and... DAMNIT I can't play it because of the neck.  Hate them.

Studio friendly to be sure, but really not player friendly.  I'd rather mess about with pick ups or mics any day.  Especially for the rounder fellow.  Not at ALL comfortable for those guys.  Not that *I* would know, you understand.

I seem to remember mentioning this myself recently, or it being mentioned by someone else cleverer and me agreeing (more likely).

It'd be good to know how much participation in FCD costs a publisher, I'm guessing it's a shitload.  Is there SUCH a low response to even established stateside publishers' work that Twoth would be insane/suicidal to even think about it?

The one with the silver cover I think.

And yeah, it's Jovus, Mavis and.... who?  Who is the Meg Joseph?  Other than OUR Joe, obviously.  I mean biblically.

As for a non-inflamatory way of using "GOD" as a swear I always like "Cod" - It suggests a fishy afterlife.  Which sounds fun for several boarders.
