I've just about finished this game on the Playstation. It's not bad, but not really what I was expecting. More of a first-person stealth-shooter rather than an adventure type thingy. Anyhoo, it's main distinguishing feature is the rather lovely cel-shaded cartoon style graphics, which give it a very comicy feel.

Apparently it's based on some French comic. Anybody read it and, if so, is the game art representative of the source?

It occurred to me that this might be a really cool - if slightly chancy - route for Rebellion to take with their future games. Imagine a Stronty Dog game in the style of Simon Harrison or ABC Warriors a la Bisley.

Off Topic / Re: eBay postage rates

I agree, just look at it as part of the overall price when you're deciding what to bid. I had guessed it might be to do with what e-bay charge commission on, so nice to know that.

If the actual postage is, say, ?1.50 then I don't have a problem with paying (and would charge) an extra quid or so for the envelope/wrap/etc. However, some people really do kick the arse out of it: I recently won three items from the same seller who refused to combine postage (fair enough, he only charged me what he quoted) then sent all three in the same envelope at a total cost of just over one-third.

I was worried that Bishop's history of the Meg articles were going to end with Bishop being commissioned to write a series of articles about the history of the meg which would then... infinite recursion.

Actually, Tharg, I've just had this great idea for a Future Shock.

Overall, I thought this week's prog was pretty good with the exception of the utterly incomprehensible series of non sequiturs and counter-intuitive deductive lurches that is Slaine. Some of the panels I had to read two or three times to see who was meant to be saying what.

There was also quite a lot of what seemed to be bad copying leaving big smudgey marks all over Cabs. Did anyone else have this?

Yes, I'm certain Rennie Gordon will be happy with a comparison like that! However, a pinch of salt must accompany the views of somebody who thinks Boccaccio was an artist...

Ooh. That Cabs cover is lovely. It's almost enough to make me turn to the dark side of paying again for stories I've already got.

Okay, sorry. I haven't seen this yet, but plan to catch it over the weekend.

Haneke is a consistently "interesting" (if not always "enjoyable" or "any good") film maker. If you haven't seen Funny Games then seek out a copy forthwith. It as another very unsettling film and also provides a definitive answer to any pub arguments about who the most evil character in cinema is.

The new Michael Haneke one or the old one with Kyle MacLachlan. (Don't kiss the dog.)

Bit of a mutual appreciation society going on there, methinks. I read an interview with Moore fairly recently where he described Sinclair as "the best living writer of English."

Naturally I took this recommendation to heart and snapped up one of his books, only to find it virtually unreadable.

Where does 'Help ma boab" come form and what does it all mean?

A Scot saying this is roughly equivalent to a surprised Frenchman saying Zut Alors! or Sacre Bleu!

Haven't they got a load of old Project Doppelganger gubbins lying around that Brand could have used to whip up a quick sacrificial double?

Just a small point. Are you sure you get to pick the topic yourself?

My experience of this kind of thing has always been that you are given a topic (and occasionally some background material which you deliberately aren't given enough time to assimilate) then left for fifteen minutes to prepare your talk.
