Topics - COMMANDO FORCES

#181
A while ago I contacted Colin about doing a commission and once he'd found a window in his busy schedule it commenced. The basic idea was to have Dredd with two Brit-Cit Judges, being me and Pete Wells and a Cal-Hab Judge, being Steve Watson doing something!

I then left Colin to come up with his idea!

It changed completely from the initial drawing and here is a tease until I can post a lot more.
By the way, I did stipulate that Colin should be in the picture :o

Film & TV / LAST RESORT (nuke sub action series)
23 October, 2012, 04:36:09 PM
This starts next week on Sky1 at 21:00 from the 30th of October!

Here's the official splurge:-

Kicking off 500 feet below the surface of the ocean, Last Resort follows the crew of U.S. ballistic missile submarine Colorado as they attempt to clear their names after a wrongful accusation.

When Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher, Homicide) is suddenly given orders to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan, he immediately refuses until further confirmation is given. However, when the submarine is then targeted, fired upon and hit, the crew find themselves crippled on the ocean floor, declared rogue enemies of their own country. Now, with nowhere left to turn, Captain Chaplin and XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman, The Vow) take the sub on the run and take the men and women of their ship to an exotic island where they find refuge and romance, and try to clear their names and get home.

Created by Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit, The Chicago Code) and Karl Gajdusek (Trespass, Dead Like Me), Last Resort's unmissable pilot was executive produced and directed by Martin Campbell (Green Lantern, Casino Royale).

Here is the TRAILER and it looks okay, might have afew cliches in it but I look forward to the action and intrigue from this!

Off Topic / Shorts I have worn by CF
15 October, 2012, 08:48:52 PM
A few months ago a certain bugger called Dale found a pic of me posted on my timeline by a mate form my army days, showing all my manliness in my mountain climbing shorts. For some unknown reason the film ZARDOZ kept being mentioned, I have no idea whay but here is that picture, make of it what you might!

I have decided to share with you some FASHION GOD skills, so that you too may be able to catch a woman and make her your wife!

Obviously this will be a limited run as unlike Buttonman and his eating tales, I have only so many shorts. I may have to include some T-shirt/short combos to keep going for more than 5 pictures!

I start off with a favourite of mine from my long weekend in Cancun. You will notice how the colour combo is only matched by the local cranial protection. The outfit is nearly ruined by the Reebok trainers but I think I managed to pull it off. I had sliced open my foot the night before in a nightclub that also had a pool. I was in the pool and stood on some sharp objects and so had to then stay drunk for the rest of our time there and keep my foot bound up

I thought I would start a thread for the new season where we don't hide any spoilers and just talk about the programme without worrying about ruining it for anyone who hasn't watched it. They can look at the other thread for the whole series and look at loads of black boxes!

Just watched the opener to the series and having not read any of the comics found it enjoyable and irritating in equal measures!

Some nice zombie deaths as the group go about clearing areas, only to be pushed back due to the amount of undead surrounding the whole countryside.

I enjoyed how they entered the prison system, over a protracted period and used the fence to good effect to take out the dead without using up their rounds. Nice bit of story telling! When they entered the prison proper, it did get a bit claustrophobic, as they moved through the corridors with their torches as their only means of light. You just knew they would encounter trouble and be drokked in the confined halls.

I kept thinking to myself, spear those dead gits on the floor, as you don't know they are fully dead ::)

I must admit the Michonne character I find a bit of a joke on screen. Why bother with the those two knackered walkers, when they just impede her, what is the point!

By the way, loved the cliffhanger :o

News / KRILL TRO THARGO Winners announced - 2012
14 October, 2012, 06:56:19 AM
It seems that Tharg has been quietly at work over the other side of the pond, as Douglas Wolk of the DREDD RECKONING blog has been paid a visit! Yesterday Douglas tweeted a picture at 20:45 of his hand holding a rare object, that picture is below!

Congratulations Douglas and keep up the good work trying to break the market that is known as Yankland for old telephone head!

This was first posted in the 'coming soon' thread but it really needs it's own thread!

Off Topic / Christmas is coming 2012
12 October, 2012, 04:03:46 PM
I know it's early but finally it seems that this year will be a GREAT year for Dredd prezzies in the Burdis household.

On order from the family are a few major items from Planet Replicas, which let me tell you has been a nightmare not being able to buy already. These items are the Lawgiver and one of the rare Dredd badges!

Also on order, as a treat to myself, is something else but unless this/these turn up before the 25th may, or may not be prezzies :'(

Finally though, I've had some exciting items made for the tree and I may actually give a couple of these away before Christmas, so the lucky recipients can celebrate with me  Here is a wee look at said items!

Off Topic / Paramount Theme Park in Kent 2018!
09 October, 2012, 04:40:55 PM
Last night on Meridian News and the main ITV News they broke the news (if it was known before I hadn't heard about it) about a massive project that could be completed in 6 years!

I won't bother with loads of links, as a quick Google will open up a world of fun and it's gonna be on my doorstep and when it opens the Judge will be going there!

It's gonna cost around 2 Billion quid and be built on a, bollocks, time to copy and paste methinks ;)

Planned for 2018, a Paramount Pictures-branded resort will be at the heart of a 872 acre site, twice the size of the Olympic Park.

To be built on what is currently a brownfield site in the Swanscombe Peninsula, it would be one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe and among the four largest theme parks anywhere in the world.

It would include a massive indoor water park, as well as theatres, live music venues, attractions, cinemas, restaurants, event space and hotels.

The site is on the doorstep of Ebbsfleet International railway station, which will provide a 17-minute journey time into London, and two hours to Paris

Here is a proposed pic of the place and just look at the Enterprise :o

Today I drove up to Leicester Square to pick up this beast!

I had asked the manager of the EMPIRE THEATRE if I could have it and she managed to get permission for it to be held in the 'Cellar'. I donated a sum of money to their chosen charity 'Battersea Dogs & Cats Home' and it was all mine. I still have to sign a form that says I can't sell it, as if I would do that but I'm gonna have to do that at a later date, as I had to rush back to the car while gibbering to Pete Wells! Those car parks are expensive £6 an hour, but it was all worth it.

BEHOLD! :o :o :o :o :o

I had a few funny looks when I was laying this out, I don't know why!

Film Discussion / Dredd screenplay available now!
29 September, 2012, 09:48:01 PM
The screenplay is available now from the kindle store for a little over £4. You can also try a 24 page sampler, which seems to be the films opening.
I just downloaded the sampler to read at work and it looks pretty good.

Film Discussion / Favourite scenes from DREDD
27 September, 2012, 06:13:51 PM
OBVIOUSLY THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS

There are loads of amazing scenes throughout the whole film, along with quotable stuff to keep us all happy for many a year. Thinking about that, why not list your favourite or your top few and why you like it/them so much!

THE ROOM ENTRY:-

I would rate this as my top scene just because it was spot on and I couldn't fault it, especially in the tactical approach.

We start off with Dredd and Anderson needing to somehow get through this room full of perps, to reach the medical centre. They both stand outside the door, Dredd gives a warning, to which the perps give their main advantage away (their numbers). The advantage they have with firepower is lost due to the way the Judges enter the room!

Dredd arms his flash bang with a sweep of the device over his forearm. He then rolls it into the room through the crack in the door and waits for the explosion. When it happens, it is glorious!

The flash temporarily blinds the perps while the bang disorientates. This means that Dredd and Anderson can enter the room and methodically dispatch the perps with ease. Some lovely weapon drills as they use covering arcs of fire, double taps, placed shots, good stances and to round it off, Dredd does that stunning mag change. All the perps are dead or dying, so the room is secured, he ejects the mag from the Lawgiver and as it's still falling to the floor, he's moving his new mag towards the weapon to feed it into the pistol grip

The reason he's doing this is so that he has a fresh mag ready for anything that may happen. It would be a disaster if they had another contact and after firing two rounds, he heard the dead mans click (this is when you pull the trigger and there isn't a round in the chamber. Hence, you hear the 'dead mans click')

This scene shows how realistic the action was and how both actors went for it and listened to their instructors. Thank drokk we didn't get any of that Hollywood bollocks which winds me right up!

I have many other favourites but I thought I'd see what other people liked and why, before I list the whole film ;)

Film Discussion / Slo Mo Booth at Fantastic Fest!
22 September, 2012, 08:54:50 AM
DROKK!

I wish they had done this over here, I could see me and Pete having a great laugh doing stuff on screen!

This is the blurb about what they did:-
Fantastic Fest, DREDD 3D and RealD 3D teamed up at Fantastic Fest 2012 to give fans a unique experience with the unparalleled Phantom Camera. The Phantom's 2500fps slow motion capabilities allowed fans and artists at Fantastic Fest a chance to experience the photo booth on a new and more personal level.

Anyway, here's a few ones that I enjoyed from their YouTube page. You can scroll through them all if you like but some are stomm! You get a booth like this and you don't mess about, I don't understand it

Film Discussion / DREDD - Blu-ray Wish List
18 September, 2012, 04:54:17 PM
After watching the film a couple of times and seeing extra bits each time, whether that be block names, graffiti, posters, gang jackets and all the little nuances that are on screen from the characters. It's got me thinking of what we would like to see on the Ultimate Disc!

The Box
First off, the collector inside me wants at least one Limited Edition Tin Box version and this could have one of those lenticular pictures on the front. That Motion Poster would look good on the cover, or something similar!
I suppose they could do what Kick Ass did and have a window where you could slide in the cover you wanted, from the cards that they included in the box. They could have Dredd, Anderson, Ma-Ma and Lex!

At the very least I would like to see an inlay card (how many discs have nothing nowadays) or a small booklet inside. This could contain basic info and a few pictures.

If we did get a Limited Edition, it would be great if they made a certain amount available to the forum, through sales via the site. So we didn't miss out, depending on how many are produced!

The Disc
I hope they will include a 2D version with the 3D version, so we don't have to buy another separate disc.

Contents
Commentaries :- Wagner and Garland - Travis and Anthony Dod Mantle
Making of section :- Boot Camp - Stunts - Sets and Locations - CGI - Weapons and Uniform - Lawmaster - Art - Etc...
Profiles of Characters :- Not just the main three but as many as possible.
Script :- Rough to shooting version
Preview Comic :- Would be nice and would help out people who haven't seen it!
Easter Egg Locations :- This could be like they do on MTV and place a box on screen at the time it comes up saying where it is and what it's from (the what it's from is for those who won't know). They could do it with a circle around it, like they do on the sport on tv but I would prefer a box myself!
Interview Selection :- If possible a few of the most informative interviews that have been seen (I suppose the rights would get in the way of this)
Blooper Reel :- Does what it says!

That's the sort of stuff I would like to see on a DREDD disc but I'm sure things are already in motion. I'm sure I've missed some ideas off, so anyone else have any ideas of what they would love to see on the disc!

EMPIRE CINEMA LEICESTER SQUARE SATURDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER 20:45 SCREENING

Okay folks, it's on. I've just got off the phone with the manager of the Empire in Leicester Square and Judge Burdis will be on patrol outside and also in the auditorium before and after a few showings from the early evening onwards.

We can come as a group for the 20:45 screening and she will keep a row of seats clear for us, or for how ever many want to watch the film. If you want to watch the the film with some Dredd fans from here and you live near London, then this will be the screening for you.

Just add your names here but please make sure you can come along. You can also drop me a pm if you want!

I'm just about to send some photos along so that they can advertise that a Judge will be there for these screenings. There are other ideas being mooted but we will see what hapens!
