Are you saying that because you pay taxes then you have a part ownership of all our countries weapons of mass defence, because I agree some of those missiles are a tad too large to keep in the cellar

You are correct, that slow mo bit was amazing, the image bounces off the wall in the paint spray until you see the painting appear through it when the mist dissapates

Great news for Buttonman, there are 6 letters in this prog.
Well that's all for now, except I don't like the way Kev Walker is drawing Dredd's badge without the name on it, the only quibble that I have with his art as I do like it. This was what made me write to DC when they did Dredd, their bods didn't put the name on the badge half the time

Insult to injury; the woman behind the counter seemed to suggest I walk to the Thornaby store 4 miles away, as they "might" have some there. Muppet. I did end up buying some Indiana Jones socks (for a quid!), so it wasn't a *completely* wasted journey.
Do what I did, get them to ring around all the nearest stores to you to see who has them and if need be get them sent over. When I got mine it was on my wifes birthday and me and my son were in the ASDA at Kings Hill being told that they were in Gravesend. So because I needed them now I got a pile put aside for me (just in case loads of you bought them before I got over there) and I drove over to collect them. All in all a productive two hours spent chasing the pants. I was flying out the country the next day so it was of the utmost importance that I acquired them!

News / Re: 2000ad Trading Cards
26 August, 2008, 12:59:49 AM
Here we go then,

BOX- Overall it has a good design layout. The way Dredd with the sunburst behind sticks up is well thought out, with the good use and positioning of the artwork and lettering. Nice to see the product is manufactured in the UK.

PACKETS- Good use of the 2000ad logo, especially contrasting it on the black background. Nice and simple.

FOLDER- Now I like the pic of Dredd (by Dylan Teague) with the logo, but I reckon it might have been best with a few of the major characters on the front (this is unless the next series has a folder with another character on the front. This could be done through a poll with the aid of the 2000ad website). The spine layout is very eye catching with the red 2000ad logo blasting out of the black with Dredd above.
The back has the best art, Kev Walkers pic of the characters having a drink in a line with the 2000ad logo above.
My only problem with the folder is that it's too big (this is unless you collect EVERY sketch card). The spine should have been slightly thinner with the clasp attatched to it, instead of the back. It would help the folder become that much more compact (not by much, I admit).
Now onto the main product

CARDS-

first nine The header card looks out of place in the folder. The rest of the cards are excellent using some of the best 2000ad artists around.

Classic covers Now this is a strange mix in my opinion, not due to the artists and pics chosen but I think it would have been better to have had a cover from every new logo era that 2000ad has gone through. Good stuff on the back which will help anyone who has never read 2000ad.

The art of 2000ad What a superb bunch of pics and artists we have here, showing us a mix of characters old and new. Also I like the way the characters on the front cross the black outline into the green border but don't on the back. Well thought out!

Green cards I don't understand why we have a coloured card in the top corners, but it is symmetrical. Again we have another excellent array of art. On the back we have a superb Kevin Walker pic. Two points, could no's 33 & 36 not have had their numbers placed to the left and could no 35 not have been placed at the bottom right, as it's on Dredd's head!

Snap shots More excellent pics and also great to have the info on the back. One minor point, most 2000ad readers will know the artists on cards 37,38,39.41,42 & 45 are the same as on the front, but just to help the uniformity they could have had their names included, as the other three have names on.

Art montage Two good pics. Once again we come to the numbers, 53 could have been put to the left as well as 52 (which stands out in the pic, due to it being white. 49 & 50 are black and merge into the pic well).

Orange cards Now this is brilliant, with some of the greatest ever 2000ad artists showcasing their art, and it again crosses into the border. On the back we have the left side of Kev Walkers drinking pic, slightly spoilt by white numbers and their placement.

Sketch Artists This an excellent showcase for the sketches that are available to collect. Now we come to the one major mistake in the whole set. Card 65 has two pics by John McCrea on it but it is labelled as Colin MacNeil.

Chase cards I like the way it's in order and includes the Dredd annual when that came out in '83. Also having Ezquerra's Dredd on the back is very fitting. Only problem, there should have been more sets of chase cards.

I bet you are thinking that I didn't like the set because of all my tiny gripes, far from it. I have waited for over four years for this set to come out, after seeing the sketch cards being dished out at one of the Oxford Dreddcons. Finally it has and I am very happy with what I have and the production values are top notch. All those little points are designed (hopefully) to help the design of the next series.
I shall post my thoughts on what I would like to see in the near future.

I shall finish on saying well done to all at strictly inc for putting this together and especially Elisabeth for helping me out and holding my order back until I returned from my holiday as it was greatly appreciated. Roll on series 2

Quote from: "dandontdare"How do you do it CF? Are you the only one out there so far?
I have mentioned it before, but the quick version is that a shop in my town that I went in one day, a few years back had a DVD on sale on before it was due for release the next Monday. I asked how and the shopkeeper said why not as we have it already. At a future date I noticed that 2000ad was in early, sadly it's not always in early.
He's an embargo buster, the naughty shopkeeper!

That's a pretty good cover and the best bit about it all is that it will be out in time for my Birthday.
By the way when I was in Barcelona I went into this comic shop near their Arc De Triomf (it was bigger than the old Forbidden Planet) and they had two Dredd case files in and a Strontium Dog one in as well. They were up to at least 13 in the Dredd's (if I remember correctly), then again they were a little bit thinner. I guess this means that they have had some different covers to us lot!
I threw that in just as a talking point for any of our European cousins on the board.
