The American Way of Death - Part 1
ART - Nelson Daniel
SCRIPT - Swierczynski
This starts off with Judge Death doing his stuff in the Grand Hall of Justice, while we have Judge Omar and Karyn talking to each other telepathically. Straight away we find out that this is not their first visit to the city! We see the Judges try to fight back against the four Dark Judges that we know of and then we start to see the new ones!
Page by page we are introduced to these characters, as we see how they do their dark deeds. First up is Judge Choke, quickly followed by Fistula, Burroughs, Skinner, Sleep, Metastasis, Stigmata and Sludge. We then see Judge Omar confront an invisible/misty figure that seems to suck him into it and into a dark area! Is this this the last Dark Judge?
While this is going on we see Judge Cal take control of the situation by rescuing the Chief Justice and the Council of Five. He evacuates Sector One and we see that certain people will be evacuated first (it never changes).
It ends with Death saying that they are going to take the rest of the city!

ART - Steve Scott
COLOUR - John-Paul Bove
STORY - Swierczynski
This is the back-up strip and it deals with Dredd on Titan. As he arrives the place is rioting and the robots in charge of the shuttle go to sort the situation out. Three hundred and seven moon seconds later one returns in a bad state and sets Dredd free to resolve the riot!
Off he goes with the pilots helmet on his head and a laser whip in his hand! No sooner is he outside of the shuttle than the robot initiates the self destruct. Outside he's feeling the effects of the atmosphere on his lungs when he meets Harvies from the back-up strip in issue 14. The shuttle explodes and Dredd is knocked unconscious.
We then get two pin-ups from Nelson Daniel, both Judge Choke and Burroughs, with a little write up from the writer.
I'm not going to rip it apart, as it does a good job of that on its own, but you really have to see Judge Metastasis in action to believe it
