I'll have a t-shirt of that cover too- it would be nice if the whole T-shirt front was made up of that image, rather than just a square in the middle. Gimme gimme gimme!

I have 'read' quite a few stories with no dialogue, and as a story-telling mechanism, I don't like it. It doesn't draw me in to the story, and I never manage to connect with the characters involved. That's my opinion, and it isn't any more wrong (or right) than any other self-appointed expert. The use of the word 'trick' was as in 'one-trick-pony'. (using the same story telling technique over and over- with tiny people). Don't agree? Fine. Doesn't change my opinion though. Nor does it make me wrong.

I disagree that comics are basically a visual medium, for me it is a combination of dialogue and visual elements. I have no patience to read a novel.

I think my post also made it perfectly clear how I feel about Anthony Williams' work, and saying it was better than McMahon's was in no way a compliment to Williams.

Jones- please don't mention cars again, I've been fighting mine for three days now, and it's been winning- I have a badly scalded, blistered and bandaged right hand over the heads of the bastard. You're still wrong though!

Byron- I salute your obvious passion! However I feel equally passionate about how crap such a fantastic artist has become. If you still wish to kidnap me, I shall be lying waiting in the heather with my grandfathers hard, sharp dirk in hand (which hasn't tasted blood since 1918)...

Cover: ok, but not very stand-outish
Dredd: Pish. IMO, this art isn't worth the bog roll his best stuff was printed on. What an incredible waste of talent. Bleeurgh! Take it away- it burnses!
Terror Tales: Best artwork in the whole prog. Liked the story too, top stuff- again, best thing this week.
Detonator X is tedious garbage, I've given it a chance- this is part 6, and I can no longer hold any of this story in my brain- I keep having to go back a few episodes to remind me what it's all about. Somebody put it out of it's misery, puh-lease.
Sin Dex: This has been keeping me going over the last few weeks. Only now Anthony Williams is on art duties, though.(Beats McMahon's tripe though) but I have to agree with Funt- for me, his work drags any story down (though he did a nice Dredd a while back, I must say).
Dante: I'm in agreement with those in the 'ropey artwork' camp. Simon hasn't been delivering his usual standard on dante. Not long ago I was rereading some old  Dante stuff, and his artwork then was superior in every possible way. Is he tired of Dante, or has he been away too long?

I, for one, am glad that there was no Bob Byrne this week. Mr Amperduke was great, but this series of 'tales' has been rather turgid 'reading'. I get to just over halfways through, then suddenly lose the plot, every time. I've seen enough of this 'no dialogue' trick now (it doesn't work BTW), can we have something different, Bob (preferably without tiny people)?

If I'm not allowed Ron Smith (damn your oppressive regime) I'll have Cam Kennedy instead.

And my second list would be:
Carlos
Walker
Flint
Ron Smith
Gibson

Nyah hah!

you are that American self-motivation nut (who's name currently escapes me) that I've seen advertising on late night TV, and I claim my free set of self-motivation cd's!
(Which I will sell on e-bay, because I'm a cynical cunt and can't be arsed motivating myself.)

On a marginally related note- does anyone remember a TV prog. in (possibly) the 80's called something like 'Pookisnackenberger presents...'? There was one episode I particularly remember that featured a Black Metal band recording a track to summon the Devil at Crowlie's hoose. They had a drummer called 'Visigoth' or something suitably Germanic. That's what this thread is beginning to remind me of!

I quite liked Purgatory, but I think the artwork went a long way towards papering the cracks over. Inferno wasn't as good, bit of an anticlimax. But it wasn't as bad as some of the stuff that came even later. There's been a lot worse, IMO. I always just assumed that the ease with which the baddies took the city was indicative of the decline of the Meg since Block Mania, the Apocalypse War, Necropolis, Judgement Day etc. had killed so many judges and destroyed so much that they weren't as efficient/ well equipped as before. The smaller breathing stuff I suppose you could put down to technilogical advancement. After all, if the city has to remove all that after your twenty year stretch is up, it would make it cheaper if there was less of it.

Bollox- never got mine finished! Oh well...

1. Clam's Billy and Strongnose
2. Jimbo's Montage
3. Third place is always a bugger to pick! I'm going to go with the ever-entertaining Buttonman's tribute to Bellardinelli
