I'd only heard of Dagostini and Eaglemoss, both of which allow cancelation by phone. In fact they both have dedicated subscription call centres who you can call if you have any problems.
I haven't looked too closely at Hachette customer service procedures but what happens if your stuff doesn't turn up or is damaged? Do you have to write a letter about that too?

Good prog overall.

Dredd was good fun and feels something like Con Air in space at the moment.

Ulysses Sweet is being skipped. Just one look at him with that dolphin on his head tells me this strip really isn't for me.

ABC Warriors was as enjoyable as ever. I like Langley's pen and ink art but I'm also a really big fan of the photoshop stuff - I think he's just a great talent overall.

Grey Area is my favourite of the current line up. I love this strip and want to see more from the world that Abnett has created. Anyone know if this is scheduled for a trade?

Strontium Dog was good again this week but it doesn't have the same exciting feel of the classic era. A solid adventure.

The Star Scan was really nice - I'm glad someone's gone for a warped Slaine.

Droid Life was another laboured pun *yawn*

Yep I think it's just spotlighting different characters. The first set is Avengers but since there have been so many lie ups I'm sure there'll be more from the Avengers down the line.
There seem to some lesser known characters scheduled though - I think Captain Britain and Namor are both getting collections.
Another thing to mention is that the collections seem to contain old origin stories as well as newer arcs. This is good news for me - I love those old 60s Marvel comics and we'll likely get to see much goodness from the likes of Kirby, Ditko and Romita.

The thing that out me off subscribing is that it seems to be published by a part work company that I haven't heard of before and if you want to cancel you have to do it by letter. This sounds alarm bells for me as those old book clubs used to be similar and they'd always say they hadn't received your correspondence.
I'll probably pick them up from WHSmith for as long as I'm able and then get any others I want from ebay.

A couple of quaint B-movie "classics":

Carry On At Your Convenience.  This is one of the series that I have an inordinate and irrational soft spot for, despite it being the film that directly targets the British working class as the butt of jokes rather than everyone else in the world ever, as is usual for the franchise, and it was a decision that cost the makers in the long run as this remains the biggest flop of the Carry On series as an increasingly-unionised British working class that comprised the series' main audience stayed away in droves when it was released in cinemas, but it's also one of the purest in the series as it's about a bloke called Boggs who owns a toilet factory in which Sid James works THE END.  This fucker wrote itself, really.
It may surprise those who have not seen it that this film is complete and utter horseshit, but as I say, at some point nostalgia takes over and it just washes over you regardless of the quality.  I suspect this plays a great part in lingering feels for the Carry On series for people in general, as some of it is just offensive to my modern eyes.

You forgot to mention the sub plot about the Canary that picks winning horses!

And is this the first in the series in which Joan Simms goes from crumpet to nagging wife?

A horrible artifact. There's nothing in the design to suggest that the War was bad in any way, or that we should learn a lesson from it or even that lots of people died and it's them that we should remember.
It seems to me that, as well as being ugly, the design doesn't even do the job it's supposed to.

1854 is my personal fave but 1836 is undeniably stunning and is a great design.

Difficult to tell with the long hair, isn't it? Incredibly difficult.

I mean - because women have long hair don't they?

So - if this Winter Solider character is a man, how come he has long hair?

I'M SO CONFUSED COSH. BECAUSE WOMEN HAVE LONG HAIR DON'T THEY. ONLY WOMEN.

WHY HAVE THEY MADE THIS FILM SO DELIBERATELY CONFUSING.

Well that yeah, but the face and most of the body are obscured also.

Wouldn't it mean that you'd be paying out fifteen grand a year to lots of rich people who don't need it too?

Just watched the Evil Dead remake.

There are some good things about it and in some ways I prefer it to the original but it's still a bit rubbish.
It's a shame because with a bit of imagination it could have been really good.

Whilst I really like Grey Area and ABC Warriors I fully agree with what you've said about Ulysses Sweet, the Tharg strip and the direction of the comic in general.

In some ways I'm reminded of the years after the summer offensive when it felt like many of the writers didn't actually want to be writing for 2000ad - they wanted to be doing DC and Marvel stuff. Today it sometimes feels as though the writers want to be doing some mature readers title under Image.

A Simple Plan

I'd never heard of this before. It stars Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton.
Three guys find a plane wreck in the woods containing a bag full of money. The film then follows the downward spiral their lives take as they try to get away with keeping the loot.
I really enjoyed it although it was very dark. Excellent performances from Paxton and Thornton and a particularly chilling turn from Bridget Fonda as Paxton's ice cold wife.

Now Empire's on and I'd forgotten Michael 'Mr Bronson' Sheard was in it. I believe he has some history with this board.
Whenever I see him I want to go 'ahhhh' because although he always played horrible buggers I can't help but remember him as a lovely bloke.

Maybe if they'd stuck to the architect's plans they wouldn't have left the exhaust port exposed!

Didn't know where to put this, but in an effort to divert the thread away from dog shit and willies:

Is it just me that's noticed that in Star Wars the electronic Death Star plans don't match the physical model?

On the electronic display the concave gun section sits on the equator line but on the physical model it sits on the northern hemisphere.
