I don't like James Cromwell much either!

I enjoy all of the original cast Star Trek films, you just have to be in the right mood to watch them. TMP is a great Sunday afternoon with a pot of tea and some biscuits cozy adventure. I think IV May be my favourite - it's pretty weak in many ways but it's so enjoyable and fun.
Probably my least favourite is First Contact. The reason being that the Borg Queen is such a terrible idea. And I wish the emotion chip had never been invented - it ruins Data in the TNG films.

Terrible news about Breyfogle. He was a fantastic artist and had an amazing talent for dynamism and movement in his pages. Definitely my favourite Batman artist.

Sorry to hear about Chas, I've seen Chas and Dave play numerous times and they always came across as very warm, likeable men.
I believe Chas still owed my sister 20p which he borrowed for a game of pool.

The cover was pretty good, I thought. A nice striking image.

I really enjoyed the ending of Dredd but think there's more yet to come.
Lots of you have mentioned Dredd's odd judgement and the odd behaviour of the reporter. Could the exploding stupid gun be the cause? Some sort of low level decision hindering effect?
I thought the images of perps falling from the sky were a bit too graphic. In the old days this would have been handled with a satisfying 'SPLATT!'

Survival Geeks was fun again this week. This slasher plot was far more enjoyable than the Dr Who thing but I really don't like any of the main characters. Maybe the should develop into slightly more sympathetic leads?

Mechastopheles continues to play all the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

The Future Shock was very good. I thought the script was a little clunky. The dialogue didn't quite flow for me. A minor niggle though, it was a strong story.

I enjoyed The Order as always, mainly because it's full of bonkers energy. Christ knows what's going on but it's still enertaining me for now.

I thought it was our resident Gundam-lover who proclaims things as 'arsom'?

I really like the 90s-tasting Dredd cover.

Dredd was good. I've been enjoying this story and the artwork is excellent.

Survival Geeks was fun. I didn't enjoy the Doctor Who one at all but this genuinely funny and exciting.

The Order baffles me slightly but I still enjoy it. It reminds me of being a kid and watching programmes or films I didn't understand, just enjoying the spectacle.

Mechastopholes is a strange one. I don't feel like I'm getting to know any of the characters and the big robot hasn't really done anything. When they used to make episodes of Knight Rider they had to have a KITT quota. The car was always given something exciting to do as that was what the kids were tuning in for (even though the stories were really about Michael Knight). Mechastopholes feels like an episode of Knight Rider in which KITT sits in a multi storey car park for the entire 45minutes.

Grey Area is the best thing in the prog again. Tharg, please say we're going to get a run of complete Grey Area reprints at some point!

Horror double bills would definitely get a vote from me.
I remember watching a double of Night of the Demon and (I think) Dead of Night.

I also wish they'd bring back Moviedrome. I'm always going on about this - I would always set the timer on the video and watch Moviedrome with Alex Cox followed by whatever movie (or movies) had been featured. Such a great way to be introduced to some cult classics.

I was thinking of Bix Barton also, although it's been so long since I've read any that I can't remember it very well.

I'll see your Bix Barton, and in response I'll raise you a Bec & Cawl.

In all honesty, all I can remember about Bec and Cawl is that I didn't find it funny and I think there were lots of jokes about smoking weed?
If you say they were occult investigators I'll take your word for it!

Hmmm, are we really just talking about Devlin, Dandridge and Ampney Crucis* in the 'fop' category though, aren't we?  (Fair few donnish types in Necronauts and Caballistics Inc too). Unless we include God-smiting Harry Kipling, and I'd be against that.  Vespertine is something else again too.

And set against that we have the Anti-Fops of Absalom, Stickleback, Chapter & Verse, Carver Hale (oh-so brief, oh-so long ago and oh-so Constantine) and (possibly) Aquila (although he's more a plaything of unspeakable ancient powers than an investigator).

*Incidentally, I don't think it's fair to say Devlin is a 'crappy archetype' just because of his 'dear boy' tendencies - he was something entirely new, to my mind.

I was thinking of Bix Barton also, although it's been so long since I've read any that I can't remember it very well.

Also the professor from The Alienist, although he's an actor being controlled by Vespertine.

I think 'crappy archetype' was a bit harsh so apologies for that.
