Am I a bad person because the gay sex scene made me change channel?

Arrgh! Mine arrived yesterday but I haven't had a chance to put it on yet. Probably get on it tomorrow though and then turn it off when Doctor Who comes on! :D

Saw it tonight and thought it was amazing. I really empathised with the characters - apes included - and thought it was a really clear, well told story.

I don't want to have an argument about it though!

Books & Comics / Re: DC to relaunch with 52 #1's
20 August, 2011, 08:51:17 PM
I've ordered the first issues of Batman, Batman and Robin, Detective Comics and Batman the Dark Knight.
I really hope they turn out to be good. The one thing I'm a bit worried about is cross overs. I don't really want to spend much more per month on comics and there are about another ten Bat titles out there!

Prog / Re: Prog 1747: Off the Leash

I'm enjoying the prog at the moment, Dredd is great - I don't mind slow!
I always enjoy Savage and Sin Dex does it's thing to entertain.
I have reservations about the art on the 3riller - I don't think that sci-fi design is Steve Yeowell's strong point and a story like this lives and dies by making the robots and action scenes dramatic. Imagine this script drawn by McCarthy - it would lift it onto an entirely different level.
Zombo is entertaining and funny but I still think it just over-does things a bit too much - it feels forced to me.

I like the idea of stealth games - i'm just not very good at them (i think I'm a bit impatient). I personally don't mind going in for a stealthy approach just as long as I have a fighting chance of survival if I'm discovered.

Games / Deus Ex - Human Revolution
16 August, 2011, 07:25:47 PM
I've given in to the hype and pre-ordered this game on XBox 360 - very unusual for me - I normally only buy games under £20.

I have been looking forward to this ever since seeing the amazing trailer. I've never played a Deus Ex game before although I've heard good things. I like the idea of the 4 game pillars allowing you free choice in every situation which effects the overall outcome of the game. From the youtube vids it looks a bit like a cross between a James Bond game and Mass Effect.

Hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Is anyone else planning on getting this? Has anyone played Deus Ex before? You may be able to give me a better idea of what to expect.

Film Discussion / Re: Riots
15 August, 2011, 09:33:41 AM
I don't think the London riots should go into the new Dredd film but stock footage can be used to good effect.
The bit at the beginning of Mad Max 2, which explains the breakdown of society, works really well.
There's even footage of WW2 in Flash Gordon (when they try to erase Zarkov's mind) and I don't think that film upset anybody too much.

My favourite soup is Heinz Cream of Tomato (it's the only soup I ever eat).

I don't know but a similar thing happens in 'The Beast Must Die' which is a whodunnit where you have to guess who is a werewolf. A voiceover comes on saying 'This is the werewolf break' and then it continues much the same as the films you describe.
Could be the same director or at least around the same time.

Oh, and sorry to double post but I agree with everything SBT said about Tim Burton.

Film & TV / Re: Batman (ITV2)

I remember being really excited about the Batman film. I'd been reading the London Editions Batman Monthly for a couple of years and couldn't wait to see the big screen version.
Then I saw it and was horribly disappointed. Apart from Batman's lack of movement it's the Joker that really wound me up. I always found the Joker scary because he was genuinely unhinged and seemed to find his crimes genuinely funny. Nicholson's Joker just seems to be a crap gangster who uses the clown guise as a way to intimidate people. People kept going on about how good Jack Nicholson was as well which made it even worse. The fact that they just killed him off at the end was pretty crap too.
Batman Returns was slightly better but the whole thing about being raised by penguins was just fucking embarrassing.
Forever was ok but the villains were crap. I quite liked Val Kilmer as Batman.
Batman and Robin was awful, but again if things had been different I think George Clooney could have been a good Batman. He'd be a perfect urbane Bruce Wayne.

Off Topic / Star Wars goodies
12 August, 2011, 08:33:05 AM
Toys r Us are doing 20% off all Star Wars again this weekend (today until Sunday inclusive) including Lego!

I now have to try to balance the Pub/Buy Lego scales.
