Enjoyed the prog this week.

Dredd still seems a bit powerless and left behind by Justice Department. I think that's intentional though and it will end up with him saving the day.
Surely Cal wouldn't have a bust as he was never legitimately Chief Judge. He got to the position illeagally so he was a fraudulent chief judge. Same with Sinfield.

Sin/Dex is a fun story although I'm not always sure what's going on. I like the puns.

I really enjoyed Savage - I can't see what turns people off this strip - I think it's great fun.

The 3riller was great but I thought the final line 'Daddy where's your shadow' just over-egged it a little bit.

Similarly, I'm enjoying Zombo but I think the wackyness is just a little overdone.

Looks can be decieving of course.
Apparently The bloke who played Private Godfrey in Dad's Army was an elite commando.

Taken is like an overly complicated version of Commando with the one-liners and camp baddy removed.

John Matrix would kick Liam Neason's character down the stairs and then make a joke about it. Maybe something like:

'Where's Liam Neeson's character?'

'He's Taken a nap'.

I'm enjoying Dredd for what it is at the moment but I have to say, Justice Department seem ridiculously incompetent in this story.

Face changes for inmates? Visitation rights for PJ Maybe? This doesn't seem like a maximum security iso-block to me.
JDept seem to have become seriously de-powered in general recently and it isn't quite ringing true. Hopefully 'Day of Chaos' may be about to address this.

Film & TV / Re: The Thing (2011)
12 July, 2011, 12:45:37 PM
One thing that's slightly worrying from the trailer is that the Thing seems to behave very differently. In the original there are no real chase sequences - the Thing relies almost solely on camoflage for defence and assimilates people when it can get them alone.
The new film looks as though (from the trailer on Youtube anyway) the Thing chases people over rooftops.

I suppose we could see the Thing's behaviour change significantly over the course of the film which could be interesting. Perhaps at first it doesn't regard the humans (the first Earth creatures it's met) as a threat and then becomes sneakier once it gets burned by kerosene a few times.

The other thing that is worrying is the presence of the woman. I really hope we don't get an 'I know you're a Thing but if I can just get through to you the power of love will bring us together' type scene.

Books & Comics / Re: Mark Millar's CLINT

It's no surprise to me really.

I thought Clint was marketed pretty well at the beginning. Selling it on the strength of Kick Ass and Frankie Boyle seemed like a good way to get people to pick up the first couple of issues. Unfortunately the content just wasn't / isn't good enough to keep people buying.

Fingers crossed that Strip will get right what Clint has gotten wrong.

I saw Transformers last night and thought it was great fun. Loads of great action sequences, great eye candy a a couple of nice nods to Leanard Nimoy's past.

I can't believe people are still criticising these films for the bad acting.
It's so bad it's good - even John Malcovich turned his usual over the top 'wacky' turn up a notch. I really think Bay is just ticking boxes for character archetypes he likes to see in action films - Cocky Hero (Shia)? Check, Super hot bimbo (Rosie)? Check, Comedy double act (the parents and the little robots)? Check, Government arsehole (Francis and that skinny bloke out of the last two)? Check .

I really think Bay is just having fun pushing this stuff as far as he can, and lets face it he's never going to get a better opportunity than when he's at the helm of a multi-million dollar franchise based on a set of transforming toys. Give me this crash bang wallop style over the pompous animated movie any day. I think the bits where they are being pompous are just a piss take.

Well at least '3rillers' and 'Se7en' kind of scan when you read them. At least they do to me.

Here in Norwich, Christmas has been re-branded 'Norwichristmas'. This requires the 'ch' to make 2 different sounds at the same time which, seeing as this is impossible, means you have to say 'Norridge-ristmas' or 'Norri-christmas'. Obviously most people just give up and say Norwich Christmas making the whole thing fucking pointless in the first place.
I'd love to know how much the guy who thought it up got paid!

Definitely Bruce Lee on the Spectrum. In my school it wasn't so much a question of could you complete the game but how many times had you completed it in a single sitting. Easiest end of game boss ever!

Other than that it's probably Rogue Leader on the Gamecube. I've saved the galaxy a few times on that - escaping from the second Death Star is a sod though!

The Death Star.

I'd have to put a nice big grille over that exhaust port though.

This looks arsom!

Jason Statham, Robert DeNiro and Clive Owen in an action revenge flick? Sold!

It looks pretty likely we'll see some car stunts with a Ford Cortina too. Worth the admission price alone if you ask me. :)

Watched 'The Mechanic' starring Jason Statham which was great fun - I was actually quite surprised when he
shot Donald Sutherland in cold blood
The DVD had a trailer for another Statham film called 'Blitz' which also stars Paddy Considine and David Morrissey - I think I'll have to try to get hold of it - it looks like a good old over the top 'cop on the edge' film.
