Film & TV / Re: Universal's Dark Universe

Haven't they tried this before with Benicio's Wolf Man and Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing?

I think there's mileage in the idea but they need some decent scripts.

Nice pics. I kind of wish Luke was sporting the dark cloak. The black suit and green saber look in ROTJ is far preferable to the brown bath-robe look in my opinion.

I've discovered the Facebook group 'Christians Against Dinosaurs'. It's a fun read.

I quite enjoyed it and the baddies were quite scary.

I liked The Dark Crystal but the twist was so obvious that it ruined things a bit.

The Goonies is horrible shouty rubbish but it's well made and I can see why people appreciate its feel of adventure.

Labyrinth is an imaginative, fun film and I know for a fact that many young girls (at the time) were quite affected by David Bowie's performance and tight trousers (my girlfriend is one of them - you don't want to know what gets talked about on the Facebook group :-\)

As for dark kids films - the one that always sicks in my mind is The Secret of Nimh. I haven't seen it for years but it freaked me out a bit at the time.

Neuromancer by William Gibson.
I've never read any of his stuff but I really like the idea of cyberpunk.
I'm only one chapter in but I think I'm going to enjoy it.

Descent is fantastic and is the most Hero-Questy game I've played.

Terrible news.
A comic artist who's art had it all. Fantastic draftsmanship, great storytelling, wonderful design, dynamic energy and loads of imagination. Such a same there won't be more of it.

I'd agree there's a certain amount of curiosity but mainly along the lines of 'how awful can this possibly be?'

I think Johns is absolutely terrible.

I enjoyed Ready Player One when I read it on holiday.
It's not great literature but it's fun and fast paced and full of geeky references.

Another I've really enjoyed recently is The Knights of Dark Reknown. It's a David Gemmel book but standalone, not part of one of the longer series. I'd never heard much about it but it's an absolute stormer. It'd make a fantastic film.

The entire Tales of The Black Museum page-count to date is a hair under 250 pages, it's unlikely this'll have *all* of them, right? What's the highest page count we've had so far?

Weren't some of them in the 'Horror Stories' volume though.

I've been told that you can't have an allergic reaction the first time you're stung, only on subsequent stings.

I have no idea if this is true (I've also never been stung).

Edit:

Apparently it is true: https://www.anaphylaxis.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Insect-stings-v10-formatted-new-logo-and-reference-corrected.pdf

Urban would be nice, not sure about the logistics though.

I'm going to take a speculative guess that Dredd isn't going to be the main draw here.
He'll turn up for sure, definately in the first couple of episodes, but then we'll get a more The Pit style Judge procedural type thing, with Dredd appearing every now-and-then (which could help accommodate a certain someone's schedule, maybe).

Has it been confirmed if this is a follow-on from the 2012 film yet?

The vibe I'm getting is 'Gotham' but in the Dreddverse (hopefully better though).
