And good they look too, Nat.  Ach, I know lots of you walk the walk, I'm just amazed each time by the talent on display.

Wait, remind me:  Apart from mini-Bolt, who unbelievably  is still in school the lazy git, but what the feck are (most of) the rest of you doing reading this forum when you could be churning out comics classics with your grud-given genius?   What's the problem, afraid of ending up blaming women for all your problems, or ranting at your fans through your few remaining teeth?

Everytime one of these comps rolls around I feel almost sick with jealousy.  You bastards kick bottom.

And then there was the time he wrote a story about an alien that crashlands on Earth and has to rely on a local kid and their friends to protect him form the authorities before his people come back to get him, totally ripping off... oh.

We're standing in the refuse tip of popular culture.

Ah, how Cicero echoes through the ages.  Or was it Aristophenes?  You see where I'm going with this.

Just use Finder - Control/right-click > Compress

Well I never.  Every day's a school day.

D'oh, must read posts before replying, sorry Ump.  For compression, I use the SimplyRar freeware utility.  It works fine, but not everyone you might be dealing with is able to decompress Rars.

Yup, Stuffit Expander.  I have an odd feeling that it doesn't ship with certain iterations of OSX, but download it for free, it works dandy.  You might also need UnRarX, I don't remember if Stuffit deals with all forms of Rar files.

Film & TV / Re: Torchwood 2

There's no reason for Torchwood to be linked to Dr. Who, it's 100% cynical marketting and inappropriate.  I'd be saying that even if I could get through another episode.

At the inquest PC Adams would claim that his Race Relations training had never covered the phrase "hop it!".

Yeah, despite initial pessimism, I really enjoyed Incubus - the Aliens seemed like a genuine threat that fitted in well with Dredd's numerous previous ET problems (vark), the pace was good and the art was spectacular.

Floyd, i would just like to clarify that I have no interest in the quantity or quality of your onanism, even if your icon is a banana dressed for bed- that was Tips.  I just presumed your hands were otherwise occupied with writing to Tharg.

the third day i'm practically racing to the train station to pick them up!

I do this too, but mainly because whenever the missus goes off, she leaves the damn kid behind.  I've tried sneaking him into her bags, but she always finds him...

General / Re: Escape from reality ?.........
15 January, 2008, 07:12:50 PM
I've never found reality to be dull - after all, reality has lots going for it, including pretty girls, elephants, beer, puzzles, stars, more good books than you could ever even glance at, coffee, computer games, space probes, philosphers, cold mountain lakes, babies, 2000AD, cats, the Velvet Underground, Greece, comics, dinosaur fossils... well you get the idea, it's packed with good stuff, like a free buffet before the rest of the guests arrive.

Sometimes I get frustrated with being stuck in a particular corner of reality doing the same old thing day in day out, but that's not reality's fault - it's got plenty of options on offer.  Equally, I get sick of the grotty bits - funerals, illnesses, suicides, miscarriages, hunger - but you can't deny that they add something (horrible) to the whole.

I don't really think that fiction or games are escaping reality per se -  they're very much part of it, just a fun part that allows you to stop thinking about the many less fun parts for a bit.

As to wanting to be Judge Dredd, dear god no.
