Did the crappy sequels but Conan The Barbarian is one of the top films evah.

Agreed.  Aside from being a great-looking, brilliantly-scored fantasy romp, and  having the most nerdtastically quotable line in cinema history, the current DVD release has the most side-splittingly funny commentary I've ever experienced.   And it has James Earl Jones in a comedy wig!  Best thing you'll ever see in a â?¬5 bargain bin.

Good on Matt, though, he's an unrepentant flag-waver.

To me, Mick was the great Judge Dredd artist. He defined the character and evolved him over a period of time. I donâ??t think of myself as an instigator of anything. I donâ??t think of myself as a visionary â?? Iâ??m just a copier.

Blimey, the very definition of 'gent'.

Damnit, I'm going to have to get that DVD.  When's Season 2 airing, anyways?  I'm jonesing for some not-actually-dinosaur action, not to mention that Ms. Spearitt in various stages of undress.

I was just about to give that last episode top marks, when the "Where's Claudia?" cliff-hanger slightly spoiled it for me.  What possible changes could you make in the Permian to result in the non-existance/reassignment of just one person?  It would have made more sense if everyone had suddenly had tails.

('Course, the 'change' could have been Helen-related, in that after she left she could have gone back to a much later perod and sabotaged the existance of her 'love' rival.)

That minior niggle aside, I thought it was a fantastic climax to a fun series.  The bat-things were one of the best realised, most threatening monsters I've ever seen on TV, and their foul scrabbling offspring were profoundly creepy.  The manner of their demise was suitably grim, and the Gorgonopsid/bat-thing battle was just outstanding.

The death of soldier-boy was a good dramatic move, the survival of male-model-man was not.  Helen remains a super-bitch of the highest calibre and Abby/Hannah managed to do something practical this week without removing her trousers (I'm in two minds about this).

Wonderfully daft, and great to look at, I want more and soon!

I do love this show.  What was that blood bag for anyway?  Why didn't Nick drive the ambulance right up to the hotel?  How do Pterodons fly in an oxygen-poor environment?  What makes pterosaurs so flammable?  All that aside, what larks!

That's because they're pigeons!

you lot are surely old enough to be the fathers of thon wee pant wearing girlie

Well, probably, but on the flip-side, my own son is young enough to be her child, so all's fair in the generational genepool, I reckon.

Yep, the red-head would make a good Finny, Gou'al'd (sp?)possession symptoms aside.  Actually, I was pretty surprised to see him and fatso-wozziname move from mildly irritating comic relief to centre-stage.  Shows a bit of ambition on the part of a Prime Time show to feck with the status quo so early on.  And despite everyone I know referring to it as 'that dinosaur thing', there's still nary a sight of a dinosaur.  Bravo, I say.

Favourite bit of daftness:  when they go to open the fridge/locker that the anomaly is in, they use a knife (surely special forces have bolt cutters along - wouldn't last long in Urban Dead) on the lock, despite the kitchen being full of staff who (you might imagine) should have the key.

The same yellow knickers she was wearing three weeks ago, too.

Nah, those were pink and slightly more extensive.  Do pay attention, man.

I'm sorry, but utter daftness and underwear issues aside, I'm still really enjoying this.  It showed the first signs of creeping emo-disease at the end of this week's offering, but the cunning Smilodon-Dodo-Parasite threat-switcheroo more than made up for it.  The anomaly 'nexus' location has great potential, and I thought Helen proved a surprsingly interesting and grim character.

The Dodos were also great.

At last the military go in and just do what they are told and get the bitch, no questions asked!

Yes, that was actually very refreshing.  The military appear to be actual soldiers, in the employ of the Crown and answerable to its intermediaries the Government and Civil Service.  As such, they actually follow orders and round up the woman with the 'key to time', without any soul-searching about the rights of individuals or the unfeasibly close bonds they've formed with the fractious bunch of hippy academics they're shadowing.  Amazing.

Primeval is by no means genius-level TV, and as noted before most of the SFX are recycled from recent dino-fests (although we have yet to see an actual dinosaur of any kind, which has to be worthy of praise) but it manages to be fun genre-fare without kicking you in the nuts every other episode, the way Torchwood does.  Each episode so far has had at least two 'wow' moments for me, even if one of them was Hannah's knickers.

I've 'read-ahead' a bit on the fan sites, and I'm not optimistic about where it is going for the next few episodes, but I know I want to see more.

Still fun all the way, and easy on the eyes, despite making absolutely no sense whatsoever.  Why would high levels of oxygen mean it was too dangerous to use guns, but it's okay to use a flamethrower?  Why didn't they ask Helen who the dead body in the Permian was?  Why did the Special Forces scuba-diver "die of shock", rather than, say, drowning?  Who the hell cares, show me some more!

The Hesperornis were particularly cool zipping about under water.  And is this the first time any show has ever visited the Cretaceous without any kind of dinosaur showing up?

The single best bit for me is the grill at the back of his head - don't know whether that's O'Neill or McWild, but that is an effin' genius bit of design.
